What I learned from the video 1. Keep your dopamine baseline check and make sure to do delayed gratification 2. Doing nothing is better than doing something that is bad 3. The more you do it the more it compounds 4. Make sure that you’re still addicted but to good things

In a nutshell 1. Replace the habits you can't be proud of with those that you can be proud of (replace instant gratification with delayed gratification) in such a way that your core need is still met, just in another form. Ruff used to play video games for the satisfaction gleaned from visible improvement and achievements-now he makes youtube videos for the same, where levels are likes and subscribers, youtube achievements, etc. 2. "Bored chapter" means initially, you will realize that you are in a downward spiral of sorts (bad habits), and instead of enforcing bad habits, it's better to simply not do them and think of something else. It's ok to do nothing for a while and be bored. Being bored lowers your dopamine level, making less stimulating habits like reading a nonfiction book easier to do that it was before when you could play video games. 3. "Lonely chapter" means if you take self help in levels of 0-10 where 0 is never having done anything to improve in your life and 10 is having consistently improved yourself for years, you r current friends might be at like 2, your target is a 10, so this disparity between your goal and your environment will leave you feeling disconnected from society (sort of) and bored, which is why you should learn to embrace boredom instead of something worse for the brain.

this spring I went back to China to meet my entire dad's side of the family tree. We had a huge reunion dinner with many children (like 5-12 years old) present. They were ALL on a device in one way or another. the younger ones were begging their parents for their phones to watch tik toks and the older ones were just scrolling the entire time social media is SCARY those kids probably only watch tik toys because their parents do without realizing how much it harms them.

Dude, I can't thank you enough for this video. Recently, I've been falling off of self improvement and the instant dopamine was really getting to me. This video completely stole me back from that. The advice of just being bored works like nothing else. My day just turned around completely. I hope you have a great week man.

wait i wanna talk about something, about leaving 18 behind because it was the age that i succeed dopamine detox. so yeah a few days ago i turned 19, it means ive been an adult for a year. come to think about it, it was a nice year for me. i feel a lil bad because i couldnt achieve ALL my goals but still, i tried SO HARD to achieve those difficult goals, so it's not a total loss for me. every mistake i made actually made me better. i cant believe im actually thankful. bc in fact im a person who would get way too sad and frustrated about that. it's odd that im positive lately i must admit being positive is actually cozy. well yes im still not a hundred percent positive but who is? at least, no one should be. people have to learn how to use negativity for good. in brief i wrote down my new goals again and i started working for em, wish me luck and power.

same, but feel like I have to tone down the reading cuz my instant gratification is reading I go through so many books in a month (31 for April, I'm not sure if I should be proud or disappointed ) and these books are 350 - 700 pages long when I'm not reading I update my read list and get more books I don't have like instead of studying for exams like even before exams I find myself reading a six-hundred-page book I can't put down I love keeping track of the books I have and have read and I love going to different worlds through books, what do you think is a delayed gratification I can substitute for reading?

after a bit of thinking, i think having a love hate relationship with a habit seems to be the real problem. lets take cold showers for example, in my opinion i feel hot showers are better to have a healthier body in some aspects and cold showers are too, so in this way a conflict arises. and for indecisive people like me, my brain avoids conflict so i end up giving up way sooner. im trying to fix this but idk how.

I've been trying to go down the path of improvements for the short time of a week. I feel like the hardest part so far for me has been separating myself from the friends I have. On one hand I can see that the progress I make alone is far greater than it is with people. But on the other hand all of the friends I made appreciate me, and want me to talk with them. I just don't know if how I can balance friendships and work while maintaining motivation to stay on the work I am doing. Is the work i'm filling the holes with not sufficient enough? Or is there some way to find a proper balance that i'm not seeing?
