Part of the problem is that in school other kids really DO care about you, as do the teachers to varying extents, and they either praise or bully you, making it hard to fly under the radar. F giving gets so engrained in you that it takes forever to shake this off, and the schools make no effort to help us with it, but instead regard it as an excellent preparation for corporate and bureaucratic life. Thanks, Mark, for opening our eyes!

@Mad4400 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't help that, up until that point in our lives' many important decisions had been made for us and for those that hadn't, we sought approval when making it for ourselves. School is a time when we gain greater control over the decisions, but conditioning has us still seeking approval or meeting criteria that are not our own. The feedback we gain too often focuses on the outcome, "I'm proud of you for making the right choice." When in fact the encouragement should come from why we made that choice, "I'm proud of you for doing what you thought was best, it reflects the type of person you want to be and informs others what is important to you." Eventually we will encounter decisions in our lives where the right choice isn't obvious or may not even exist to us, but we still have to choose. This makes the process of coming to the decision more important than the decision itself because although you may not like the choice you made, you can at least be o.k. with why you made it.
@Venejan Жыл бұрын
@@Mad4400 I'd say this is yet another aspect of what others think of us, namely that they almost never care about what's good for us as individuals, but rather want us to conform to what's good for THEM or for some conception of "order" they espouse. In other words, the Fs given are entirely one-sided. This isn't exactly rocket science, but it's surprising how few people understand this basic concept.

We are a 6 figure income couple and had very little saved and not much cash lying around the preverbal". '...don't have $500 for an emergency" that was us. The big thing was debt all kinds of it, cars mortgage (although our home isn't a high price one), student loans for our kids, and of course credit cards. One day we just got sick of being broke and went total scorched earth and became frugal overnight. Paid it all off, it took almost 5 years but now we have no debt and this year our savings rate is 50% on basically the same income that had us perpetually broke. So for us it is mainly staying out of debt and watching our spending, at first it was a real effort to save in our HISA and 401Ks but now it's actually fun watching our money grow. No car or vacation or neighborhood is worth being broke or financially unstable.

Whenever I want to get that "shake and stir" of myself, to slap me out of a funk or stressful reality I've created or got myself into, I read one or two of his newsletters and I'm good to go for awhile. Now that he has his own channel, I have another resource to help give myself a little more than a breath of fresh air. Thanks always Mark. ~DMc

My hearing is horrible. Growing up my brother would talk hella loud and so I speak mostly normal. I got my first hearing aids at 14 and was so nervous about being singled out for them. After a few years I realized my hearing wasn’t ever going to get better. I could either try to hide it my entire life or just get over it. I’m pretty un-apologetic about to now. I just straight up tell people I’m just meeting that I have no idea what they said. Even people who have known me for years still forget and I’ll have to remind them. Like “Yeah, I only heard about 20% of that and have no idea what you were actually saying to me”

I was buying hearing aid batteries once at the corner store, nothing else just batteries, because both mine had died and when the checker tried to talk to me I told her I couldn’t hear her. She laughed and said “sure you can’t” in a very rude way. I wouldn’t have known but my wife was there and set that checker straight real fast 😂

What a great gift you are giving the world. I remember a time too scared to ask a question. We should have the courage to be disliked even... it is our life. We should not live it based on what others think

On the second date with my now fiancé, he was telling me how clumsy he was as he literally tripped and almost fell. He didn’t get embarrassed. He was just like “see, I told you!”. He didn’t take himself too seriously or even bother looking around to see if anyone saw him do it. I often say that as he was falling, I was falling for him. 😂 it will be our 10 year anniversary in a few months. 😊

Everything makes sense when you watch a Mark Manson video and expose. I embrace most of the tutorials you give because they are relatable and genuine.Some of the ideas are not new but it helps in how you make it simpler to follow and replicate. These ideas you put out here are worth their weight in gold, regardless of age or place in the world. Thanks Mark...I am giving you a hug from Abuja, Nigeria.

This video is amazing 👏 I showed my 11 year old son. And the quote you can't be good at something until you're terrible at it first ❤he tries so hard to be perfect at everything and doesn't want to try new things. I want him to not care what others think because I know how awful that is. Don't waste your good years caring so much about others thoughts. I needed this video thank you!

Let me just say, you are the GOAT, for me at least.I’ve only seen two of your videos so far and I’m already sold on the rest of your content. You don’t beat around the bush and it’s honestly so refreshing to see someone as authentic and straight forward as you. Thank you, I truly mean it. My past decade of trial and errors would have been a lot smoother if someone like you had appeared in my feed sooner. Still, I had a chance to learn some of these lessons on my own so no harm in that. Let me say again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope you realize just how impactful you are to the people who need to hear you the most!

00:00 🚫 Learn to let go of unnecessary worries and anxiety by embracing the art of not giving a "beep". 01:32 🔦 The spotlight effect, where people believe they're constantly being observed and judged, often doesn't reflect reality. Most people are too absorbed in their own concerns to notice or care about your actions. 03:01 😬 Overcoming the fear of embarrassment is fundamental to not caring excessively about others' opinions. Facing public humiliation diminishes its power over you. 07:24 💔 Being unapologetically authentic in relationships, willing to face rejection, is key to finding genuine connections and self-assurance. 16:25 🐓 Achieving the pinnacle of non-fuckery involves not only liberating oneself from insecurities but helping others shed their constraints, fostering a contagious liberation.

Ever heard of brain plasticity? It's the innate ability of the brain to adapt. Literally, how you think affects how your brain works. This is why you have to keep doing something that benefits your life. By making it a priority, and not settling back, it becomes part of you.

Something I am starting to realize. The vast majority of us are great at stacking improvement. Once we get going we are able to do more. The problem I think we have ( especially me) is to just simply not do NOTHING. As long as you do SOMETHING, ANYTHING will start to make changes and build on each other. It is when you decide to do NOTHING is where the problem lies. We need to just move. Even taking a shower, clean, do dishes or laundry. That step is huge for those who are truly depressed or have anxiety. Because the mere idea of anything is daunting. That is where I think most of us needs the most help.

Mark this is great. I am familiar with your book. A fun fact you might already know: There is a very specific kind of Yogic practice called "Vairagya" which is exactly this, not giving any F*s. The core of the practice is the idea of not wanting anything. The Vairagin starts by learning to do things for their own sake, without being attached to any outcomes or results. After a person has experienced a significant amount of failure, they will need to find this practice as soon as possible. As someone who has experienced a great deal of failure at various things, at varying levels of achievement, I consider myself "all-in" on this. The less I want, the more freedom I have, to want nothing is the ultimate freedom. If you know about something like Aghor Yoga, I would consider that an extreme form of this approach, but very dangerous and it doesn't work consistently across the board for many practitioners. The more I get into Vairagya practice, the more I like it. If I break practice, the world is quick to punish me with failure, anything I care about or put effort into with an eye toward results, is quickly destroyed or put utterly out of reach. Usually as a result of multiple things that are not in my control in the slightest. If I don't care at all, anything I think I lost or failed at immediately boomerangs back to me, more viable as a goal than ever. I have numerous examples of both things happening, if you had an hour or so and some adult beverages. Just trust me on it. A great semi-famous example of this is the Chess Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, who most likely read your book. He was 5x United States Chess Champion. After having a brief career downturn, he started streaming and YouTubing chess. He then decided that streaming was his main focus and he was no longer mainly a pro chess player. Immediately, he started to comeback, he started winning a lot more and his rating hit new highs. He quickly got back to about #3 ranked in the world or so. Now he is in the next Candidates Tournament for the World Championship for either the 2nd or 3rd time. I've seen him win 60K for first in one tournament, Chess is a real thing. The magic power of giving no F*s took away the pressure to win for Hikaru. I plan to pursue this approach even more aggressively until I run completely out of F*s to give about anything. Also great video, liked and subbed.

Perhaps a good idea for the next video would be to explore the path of a person who lacks authenticity on the account of being very good at overcoming challenges to the detriment of his personaity. These people normally become very miserable when they’re older…

it's been years since i came across a channel, or even a video, that actually changed something about me, i am rather biased with resorting to videos to know how to live, but this is more of a help than anything, because this has been on my subconscious all the time, "But what if I say this and that, can't I just say things regardless of the outcome?" this has never been so clear to me, it's all i really wanted, and this video conveniently shows up to me, tells me, "Just go." this made me realise, a lot of these people who brought a smile to my face, were good people who weren't ashamed to step out and go silly, i want to make others happy too

Yes. The fear of public humiliation can be worse than the fear of death. “The judge said son what is your alibi. If you were somewhere else, then you won’t have to die. I spoke not a word, but it meant my life. I had been in the arms of my best friend’s wife.”
