When the soldier in field dress uniform attempted to get the crowds to fall back behind the second white line for the changing of the horse guards, for their own safety by the way, nobody listened to her. It has nothing to do with 'manners' or the fact that the guard was a woman... It's just that everything is so haphazard, and poorly organized. One day they'll have one of the guards march over to souvenir stand (much further up from where this guard is), and yell repeated at everyone to get behind the second white line. Other times, the police on duty will do it. Kind of like in this video, but they would not have waited to the last minute...

It was badly organised by the guard - it's up to them if they have one in "field dress uniform" (in this case fancy dress, adding a No2 dress hat) opening and closing gates and telling people what to do or three. In this case they opted for one, a small female with a quiet voice, with inevitable results. Not "disrespect" but just bad organisation and a lack of supervision.

Some horses don't like being touched on the face, the head and the mouth. Some horses don't like being touched by strangers. They must have a rota of horses that tolerate having strangers with sweaty palms touching them nonstop for an hour.

The horses arent the same. The "black" horses used by the Household Cavalry are bigger. More than likely Irish Draft crosses. Not so long ago Irish Drafts and Cleveland Bays were in danger of becoming extinct but Queen Elizabeth II, in her wisdom, worked hard to utilise both breeds and thus save them. 🙂
@John-G10 ай бұрын
@@deborahwylde1410 No, some of the King's Troop horses are Cleveland Bays, usually the wheelers, but most are crosses, part Cleveland Bays / part Irish Draught, and some are Irish Draught / Irish Draught crosses - usually the leaders. As I've tried to explain, you see more Cleveland Bays / Cleveland Bay crosses in the video because of the rank structure - as a general rule, the leaders are ridden by NCOs and the wheelers by gunners / privates, and obviously those on post are all gunners / troopers / privates.

Yeah. There isn't a paddock in town; although there is a parade grounds near BP (Hyde Park?) where they exercise. The military also has a retirement home for the horses and a large facility in Norfolk UK where there are pastures and a place along the ocean to exercise. Each horse/guard has to stay in the sentry box for one hour two times a week (separated by a day) The horses and their guards get rotated in and out of the facility/ ranch at Norfolk for R & R (Green grass time?) Ha! The guards with the black horses are in Norfolk while this group fills in for them. The group that is resting is going to be in Scotland at some event later this summer. Later this group will be alble to have a holiday in Norfolk (If that is what you call it for a horse)

Could anyone please explain to me the different uniforms and what they mean, and when they are worn. For instance,.the winter cloaks in red, black, grey, etc. Thank you.
@kevanwebb6086Ай бұрын
Well winter is pretty obvious? But these Gunners are all members of Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery. The uniform they wear was in use up until the First World War on a regular basis, also with most line Cavalry regiments, (now Armoured regiments, tanks and the like). You will indeed see a variety of different colours to facings, belts, pouches etc. My regiment, the 14/20th Kings Hussars had a primrose yellow facing and now wear ‘pink’ or cherry red trousers since amalgamating with the Royal Hussars! This is representative of a battle honour awarded quite a few years ago… worth checking out the history?
