Many years ago, when I was in my early 20s, I went backpacking to Europe for a few months and ended up staying in Germany for 1 year. I lived in this really old apartment with high ceilings and a musty smell. One day, I was laying down on the sofa watching TV and I noticed this small mouse coming out of the corner. He stared at me for a few seconds and looked curious but didn't seem too concerned about my presence. I didn't really do anything, I just looked at him and left him alone. As time went by, he kept showing up here and there until one day I decided to leave a piece of bread and some cheese in the middle of the living room. So, that same day he shows up again, while I'm watching TV, and decides to go and taste whatever I had left him. I didn´t move or do anything, so at the point, he probably knew that he was safe with me and that I was not going to harm him. From that day on, I gave him food every day and he would come out and hang out with me. We became friends and I named him Pepe. Eventually, I was able to feed him in his mouth and he would let me pet him. When it was time for me to get back home, I knew that if he would stay behind, the next tenant would probably kill him, so I decided to take him home with me, back to the US. I had to take him to the vet in Germany and he had to go through a quarantine process but he made it home to America and lived with me for another year and a few months until he passed away. Mice have a very short lifespan, they usually don't live more than 2 years, so he lived a long life, for being a mouse. Now, I'm in my 40s and I still think of him often and treasure the time we spent together. 😢

Glad ya rescued the babu duck and had every intention of making sure he was returned to the wild, that first flight he took and didn’t come home for a full day, that was a goal you accomplished and it must’ve felt good that you helped save a duck and let return to the wild. BUT the duck chose to come back to you the next day and made the decision on his own to keep coming back to you despite having his freedom, even bringing his girlfriend and his friends to introduce you to them. Even flying over the area to see you. THAT is his own choice and your not forcing him, THAT is what I call special and I think others can agree with me on that to. :) so all and all, nicely done my friend, thanks to your deed, you were rewarded greatly with a very special relationship with a wildlife creature were some people would dream of having. :)

@Tinyrocket the duck is not tame at all, he chose to come back to his rescuer after he took off that first time and didn’t come back after a full day, Cheerio made the decision to come back to the man but you don’t see the duck inside the guys house at all, you see a duck that has his freedom but chooses to come back. I’m sorry you don’t understand that but I can’t change your mind or make you understand. So all I can do is hope in time you come to understand that. 🙂

this reminds me of my Wheet-Wheet. A freaked out baby duckling was abandoned near my house, we tried to find her family or other ducks, but after trying for days, she ended up imprinting & staying with me. Same story like this - She was a trip! She was still as wild as she could be, only staying indoors at night, when we went to sleep. She was right with me, followed me everywhere - soo close that if I stopped walking, she would bang into the back of my foot. LOL She stayed with me all summer, as I lived/ran condos right off the beach. She had a blast there, swimming & sunbathing, visiting with all of the guests, following me around while I cleaned rooms & did all my daily work. Everyone loved her. I called her Wheet-Wheet bc thats the little noise she made, Wheet Wheet Wheeting all day long, talking to me. Its funny, she LOVED Cheerios, that was her fave treat. When fall came, I took her over to my uncles house, bc he had families of ducks in his pond on his land. She LOVED IT! I stayed in a tent for the first 2 nights with her, to make sure she was ready. After that, she was golden. Now, she flies south every year and even comes back to the pond!! She brought her new family with her last year, I am very lucky to have bonded with such a beautiful, lovingly sweet, funny & smart creature. She really is my friend, forever.

Such a caring & understanding guy. He did not imprison Cheerio inside his home as a pet. I've been raising stray cats since a decade but I never imprison them. I rescued a baby male ducking who's parents were either killed or he was stranded i raised him and he flew away when he got old enough compeltly wild. I do miss him though and his name was maxwell x3

I think this is a perfect example of the kind of bond humans and animals were meant to have. We love them, they love us, and we live our own lives, but we're happy to spend time together regardless. I think anyone who says it's wrong to keep animals as pets, this video proves that even a wild animal can be very happy with a human. Just allow them to be themselves, and don't force them to change for your convenience. Kind of a good moral for any relationship, honestly.
