You’ve missed three points- Cody cut off intimate relations with Christine, no discussion, he was out of her bed. Cody has not been spending equitable time between the 4 wives, no matter what excuses Cody uses (e.g., his COVID rules, his askance with the prospect of living in a trailer). Finally he has said repeatedly over the years-‘you can go. No one is chained here’.

He has discounted her deep feelings of hurt at kissing Robyn before their wedding, secretly helping pick out the wedding dress & having to call her husband to tell him she was in labor while he was visiting his girlfriend. It was more Robyn's job to become Christina's sister wife & integrate into the family.

That part. Robyn should have never agreed to date him while his wife was pregnant. Meri, sought Robyn out to hurt Christine, because she despised her for being fertile. ***It was blatant disrespect. I’m glad Christine decided to no longer accept crumbs from Kody. When has Robyn reached out to Christine… Robyn knows she’s the favorite and enjoys monogamy within a polygamous marriage. How dare Robyn forget why she left her husband…. No compassion. Meri is gone. How dare Robyn ask Meri, to hold on with her. Meri isn’t even receiving crumbs. It’s pathetic that Robyn expects these women to accept what she wouldn’t accept in her own very short marriage. Sister Wives in this context only exist in her mind

She complains about being “voted off the Brown family island”, but every chance she gets she actually separates herself and her children from the rest of the family. She DID make the Covid rules, she decided to not get together for the Holidays. Even back to the beginning she didn’t let her children play with the others because she thought they were too rough. They didn’t treat her special babies like she wanted, so she kept them away. She said she wasn’t up for a reunion, she said she didn’t want her and Kody to get together with the rest of the family until they had “hashed out” their drama. Which isn’t going to happen- they’re never going to agree. She took herself and her kids out of the Secret Santa gift swap. All she does is drive wedges, then complains about not being included.

Christine was in a cult where women are to “keep sweet” in a submissive role. That she had the strength and good fortune to realize her worth and breakaway was/is remarkable. She is not confrontational but you expect her to take the lead in making her “unwanted” get together a joyous situation. Go back and watch older versions of the show and see that even as a young child, Truely would pull away from Kody and tried to keep a distance from him. Yes!!! This!! Kody was the last to notice!! At the end of the day Kody doesn't care about Christine's feelings and he hasn't for years. Too bad, so sad that she's in a loveless marriage, while he gets all the love he needs from elsewhere, and his attitude is that Christine just has to deal with it because that's what she signed up for with plural marriage. After years of being told that her feelings don't matter (because she chose plural marriage) she realized plural marriage was not for her. And Kody is all butt hurt that she wouldn't stay and endure her miserable life. It's basically the equivalent of having a cheating spouse who is getting and giving all his love and attention to another, but you are required to stay and watch, for a lifetime! When Kody married Robyn he directed the majority of his love and attention into their marriage and REQUIRED that all his other wives follow suite and direct their love and attention into Robyn as well. If they spoke up and said they were wives as well and deserved his love and attention as well, then Kody labeled them as being bad sister wives. Christine has been expressing to Kody for YEARS that she needed to be acknowledged as important in his life as well, but he didn't care because he only cared how Robyn was feeling about everything. Kody pushed Christine away and now is upset because instead of just being pushed out to the periphery, she's choosing to leave altogether. He wanted her to stay on the periphery and continue to give love and support to Robyn, his favorite wife.

I think that shouting at Christine in front of other people is abusive, also, he had just called her a bad sister wife to Robyn. no excuses for him to behave like this. He has known for years that she wanted to leave, it's not like it is a surprise. Janelle is living in cloud cuckoo land, if she thinks the houses will ever be built, Kody will sell the land as he was told it was worth more. Kody neglected Truley when she was a toddler and she nearly died, he tantalized her when she didn't want to ride her bike, and he has hardly bothered with her during Covid, so it is no big loss for her when they move.

In my opinion, the relationship “worked” with Janelle, Christine and Meri because Kody was focused on his calling to plural marriage and wasn’t particularly romantically invested. It was about kids and a heavenly reward. There was a balance. The moms were all of an age, life stage and all had kids similar in age. They had regular common issues, but really Kody treated them largely the same. When he met Robyn, he discovered romantic love. Monogamous love. His preference, his focus naturally was no longer fair. I think this was unexpected. His frame work is polygamy, but his feelings are not. So he champions Robyn and her children. Even going so far as to call Robyn’s kids “ours” and “mine” but refer his children by Janelle and Christine as “their’s”. ( at least in the way the show is edited)
@andeeq666

He had romantic love with Meri. Then, they had trouble conceiving and decided to find a plural wife, Janelle. That made things worse. Then, Christine was chosen to help smooth out Meri’s and Janelle’s sister-wife relationship. I don’t think Christine and Kody ever got along well or liked each other much, theirs was simply to have children, not a real marriage relationship. Meri brought Robyn in to have someone on her side. Two against two. Now, Children are grown, no one needs to stay except Robyn who has the two littlest to raise.

Did you see that smile he gave Robin? Kody was the first to know when he was interested in Robin. Christine didn't know about Robyn when she was very pregnant with Truly. Christine found out they were getting married before Christine and Janelle even met Robin. Kody was very sneaky about his new love interest, Robyn. Rules for thee but not for me. Kody leaving the hospital while Christine is getting ready to have Truly. Making out with Robyn while the baby is crowning after Christine said to hurry because the baby was being born any minute. I was the second wife out of four from the same group. My husband at the time after 10 years of marriage gave me the option to leave no questions asked or keep trying to work on the relationship. I chose to try. 3 years later when everything finally fell apart anyway, he was mad at me for making the decision to leave. What ever happened to no questions asked? I think he was upset because it was no longer his choice to end the relationship it had become my choice, and he felt out of control. Watching this definitely looks way to familiar.

The reason why everyone is surprised at his reaction is because in the beginning of the series from the very first episode Kody has said that all his wives were there because they wanted to be and that if at any time they wanted to leave they were always welcome to. You also have to remember Janelle had left for a year earlier on in her marriage to Kody, the fact that even Janelle was surprised at his reaction tells us what’s going on is something different for Kody. The reason we feel he emotionally abusive to Christine is because for months, even years he has never come to Christine to confront the rumors he was hearing about her wanting to leave. He put on this huge performance once he got an audience. He withholds affection in order to modify her behavior. He said it quite plainly that he did not want to have a relationship with her because she wasn’t in good relationship with the other wives. His anger isn’t one of love lost but of a bruised ego. Christine is the scapegoat in this dysfunctional family. Her leaving disrupts that for everyone. With all the new information we are learning this season I can’t blame Christine for having friction with Robin. During that first season Christine was taking care of both her children and Janelles during the day and working nights. She asked Kody for support with the kids at night when she was working but he refused so the responsibility fell to her oldest kids. Then when Kody starts dating Robin Christine’s oldest daughter is sent to provide child care to her 3 kids and Kody sees her every 4th night prior to them even being married. Robin got preferential treatment from the very start and a Christine could even get child care for the children he fathered.

It’s abusive and narcissistic bc his emotions sprung from his loss of control over someone, not out of sadness or desperation or even frustration over a major loss of an actual relationship. A good mother will gently guide their growing kids to begin to understand that parent's mental state, encouraging them to get counseling so they aren't wasting their time expecting a certain type of relationship from someone who isn't capable of any depth or empathy.

You have to remember when Truly was little she almost died. So I can see her in Vegas not letting Truly sleep away from her. Then they move to Arizona and everyone is spread out and then Kody refused to allow his precious kids with Robyn around any of his other kids so she never got to spend the night away from Christin at that point either. The only other children around her age it Robyn's kids. Also, what he did to Truly at the end of this episode is probably what he does to her every weekend and that is also probably why she never wanted to stay.

The piece that was really telling to me about how little effort was being made by Kody and Robyn to "maintain the family culture" was when they got together for Christmas during Covid 2020 and Ariella didn't know who Savannah was. It reminded me of when my kids would travel from out of state to visit my large extended family, and they wouldn't remember who all of the second cousins were. If they had sincerely wanted to remain a family culture, even while being in separate houses, they could have had weekly all family zoom calls, zoom game nights, family chats using like the Facebook portal or something that was widely available. They could have had picture books for the younger kids and talked about each person, and they could have worked to maintain meaningful connections. But they didn't. It wasn't a priority, actually. This whole concept of Christine destroying the family culture and taking people away is a complete farce. Kody destroyed their family connection by physically removing their ability to see one another for years.

Excellent points! Reading them inspired a thought about Truly. Perhaps Kody has such guilt feelings about the fact he almost allowed her to die that it's difficult for him to be close to her. Because she reminds him of his own failures as a father. IT's just inexplicable to me how he treats Robin's kids so well, yet cannot be loving with his own.
@WoolyPronto
@WoolyPronto 2 жыл бұрын
@@lbarmstrong1 I have a theory - I think Kody views his biological children, at least when they are young, as property - something to be controlled, and love is shown in return for obedience. But for Robyn’s oldest three, I suspect he approached the relationships a little more carefully, putting in extra effort to nurture a relationship because it wasn’t built-in from their births. Basically, he is more motivated to *try* with his step children, and with his other children he probably feels he is owed something (respect, compliance), simply by virtue of being their father. Also definitely agree that he seems to carry guilt from the close call with Truely to the extent that he allows it to damage his relationship with her. It’s all sad.

One thing not discussed here that makes it feel right that Christine talked this through with Mykelti is that Mykelti and Tony's relationship is a big part of what made Christine see how messed up her own relationship was. She's said in interviews that seeing how simple their relationship was and how they support each other was a real wake-up call and that she talked to Mykelti about that to process what she was seeing. Mykelti talked about what her marriage was like and Christine saw a lot of hard truths in her marriage through that discussion.

Heck even Kody said he thought there would be a party (like get pizza or something everyone, at least pretend you're a normal family lol). Every scene of this season just proves to me more and more that Christine made the right decision, even the taking Truly away from her "father." Kody acted like he was a 14 year old brother to Truly in that scene, his demeanor and basic, stupid questions (though a lot of 14 year olds would do even better I'm sure!).

I saw some parallels between Kody/Janelle and my marriage. My husband was in the army. When he was away, I had to make decisions on my own regarding our family. Now he is retired and we are still trying to navigate making decisions together. He gets frustrated when he feels I’m cutting him out. I feel waiting for him is unnecessary because I have always done things this way and I’ve never steered us wrong before. It’s been three years since he’s retired so we have it more or less worked out now, but Kody can’t be angry that he’s put her in a position to be independent while being angry she’s independent.

On the episode where the wives and kids all went to the farm and they took a break from painting Kody’s moms house to climb that hill, we got a real sense of the different kinds of parenting styles between the moms and Kody. Robyn was screaming at her kids to sit down on the rocky hill while the others were just easily walking around having fun. The wives talked briefly about how the OG’s let their kids explore and climb things and Robyn said it was too dangerous and didn’t want to risk a potential injury to a kid. I saw from then on that she did not ever want to leave her kids with the other wives. She is an extremely nervous mother and somehow can create problems out of seemingly nothing.

Of course I adore the insights from a trained professional, but the dynamic the two of you together combined with Alison's history of the show is exceptional. Her sensitivity around using clinical labels while sitting with her psychologist husband is a fantastic reminder that we do use these terms casually and not always accurately. Re RV: Janelle isn't relying on Kody to equitably split the TLC money. Christine said that Kody promised to support her, but acknowledged he doesn't. Both of these women work hard and have become successful with MLM BECAUSE Kody negotiated such a crappy contract just to stay on the air. Janelle bought the RV with her own money. Kody is just mad that she didn't pay off the extra two lots he purchased that have become lot #5 for Robyn. Robyn doesn't have an outside income, she has a nanny to supervise. Did Kody consult Janelle about the investment into a nanny? Or are only the wives supposed to get permission?

Christine said that he has only spent the night with her and her kids for 3 out of the past 800 days. Not much time to have deep discussions with Kody. He NEVER EVER sees Meri, and he only comes around to see Janelle long enough to haul the trash cans once a week, argue about leveling the camper, and avoid any conversation about Janelle building on Coyote Pass. Then he flees back to Robyn and his kids that matter. I don't think he ever even steps inside the camper. Kody cares about Kody, Robyn, and Robyn's kids and no one else.
