Hi All, thanks for checking out Poor Glenna. I'm JP DiSciscio and I directed this little throwback monster flick. All the effects are practical and a lot of care went into getting the look and feel of late 70s/early 80s genre films down. I wasn't a parent when I made the film in 2020, but now that I am this movie hits a lot harder. Enjoy and Happy (almost) Halloween.

hi, I like the Movie, yes the settings is like the good old days, but what I was thinking while watching the story is that, is Alex a Normal child? Because their neighbor looked and asked about him , ?
@BrianReindel2 жыл бұрын
Nobody seems to have caught it, but Yars' Revenge was a great addition as the game he plays. The shower curtain acts as a barrier similar to the game, and his tentacles can reach out beyond it like the swirl in the game. I don't know if that was intentional, but it was pretty cool.

Perfect movie title!! This was a little unnerving, gave me my slasher and sci-fi fixes in a single short and genuinely felt sorry for Glenna as a mother. Very well done 👍
@observationsfromthefencepo72072 жыл бұрын
Now that was interesting. I love the throwback vibe. I am glad the friend fought back and the mace was a nice alternative. I am mixed on how I feel about Glenna. She was protective but at a high cost. The son mutant reminded me of The Thing. Loved that the actors took it seriously as it paid off. Enjoyed this ditty as it was weird in a good way. Peace

Some things I was wondering if a homage was paid to? 1- just with the tentacles alone, I was thinking of that old Space 1999 episode "Dragon's Domain" 2- When the father was "discovered" in the tub, a certain part of John Carpenter's "The Thing" came into my mind. 3- I forget the Tales From The Darkside episode but at the end, the creature looked a lot like "ALF" & the whole thing was based on some kind of Folklore, the creature in this in the tub as a silhouette has a tiny touch of this maybe as a mouth? Am I close with any of my speculations as to what might've been certain ideas for the creature?
@eventsmorewithchrisg2 жыл бұрын
Another "tentacled thing" maybe paid homage to now that I think of it could've been "Uritsukidoji: Legend of The Overfiend" as an anime??

I understood the allegory To having a anti-social child (grandson) maybe? When a child shows anti-social tendencies instead of bringing this child to therapists and doctors parents ( grandparents) tend to isolate him from society, trying to run aways from the fact he's more a monster now rather a human But you kinda realise how a child grew up to be like that. With an abusive neglectful father and overindulgent grandma. Monster design was immensely creepy and chilling. All these tentacles freaked me out In the end you even feel sorry for the monster. After all it's not completely his fault he grew up to be like that

Alright, I know the dad is made to look like a clueless brute who half-deserved to die (clueless because it is clear he has never entertained the possibility that there might be something wrong with his son and a brute because it is equally clear his ever-present baseball bat is intended for more than just sport) but he does have some of the most hilarious lines in this. If you listen carefully to his muttering in anger at Alex's noise as he gets out of bed at 6:30- and I put the subtitles on to be certain- he says, "Here we go. I was having a good dream. I killed a buffalo, was kissing Farah Fawcett, doing all this and here he comes again." 😄

Now that was not the best way to treat your son but i guess she had no other choice . Glenna was really quite a nice old lady as she did allow her sons friend out of the basement as she should, as he really was a friend & it shows as he brings a fun game to play & share but Alex is not in the mood for games he or what he's become is more angry & hungry than in the mood to play with his friend . It's my take sweet Alex just read to many HP Lovecraft tales as a child & became one of those sweet abominations. Sad ending but this shows the love a mother has for her child very well. A scary fun ride & very well executed by everyone involved. It sure would have been cool to see Alex in his full form ,,
