Laura and Jake are called to assist a desperate Doctor Cooper in the late hours. His computer, designed to analyze violent internet content, is somehow creating its own, and is using Cooper as the main subject. whoa... reality altering ai... that's scary... I love the style, this was a good balance between visceral and cerebral horror... creator losing control over his creation, like frankenstein but in a whole different level, then the monster plays with everyone's fear, letting them destroy themselves while it just observes, like they're it's lab rats... almost felt like it wanted us to see it, like we're part of this experiment... it had shown us the results before anything ever occured... :O or I'm just letting myself get carried away

Great work! So many things to say about this one but to sum it up quickly...1. The color gave it the old-time movie feel , which is awesome when contrasted against the modern subject of AI. 2. The actors chosen sold this story to me perfectly. 3. The story itself was just great and unfolded in perfect rhythm to carry us through build up & climax just in time to drop us at the end , full stop which leaves the viewer wanting more and wandering what next?!

So is the film, this short, supposed to represent a piece of violent AI-generated content? If it is, I like the idea. On the other hand, if the AI is somehow supposed to have altered reality itself, that won't fly. I guess I like my first interpretation.

I like the effect of the AI being named “Carl” but then they always refer to Carl as “it” rather than “he”… I feel like it brings to life the challenge of whether we should be treating AI machines as beings or not. 👏👏👏Very nice work🖤💀🖤💀

We had so many discussions about that. The actors kept wanting to refer to the computer as 'him' because we tend to humanize these things. But it was always important to be clear that there was nothing human about it!

@@MrHandrogs I’m very impressed by how much that affected me; it bristles a little each time Carl is referred to as it. We have major issues needing to humanize our machines while simultaneously treating them like throw-always. These characters genuinely cared about Carl because of all their care, dedication and time they spent, but they made clear they saw Carl as a machine. Bravo! One I will watch over and over🖤

This is a double post, but for anyone interested, the opening and closing are a mix of 3d liquid simulations over 3d scans of the characters. We ran our rendered simulations through an existing form of AI text to image generator called a GAN (generative adversarial network). This created new images from our liquid renders which we then layered over top the originals. If you look closely, you will often see weird distorted faces emerging and then disappearing again. It was an interesting effect!

This was excellent. It was like being stuck in DOS...like all the levels going from basic up or complicated down. The visuals, the concepts, the coding...SELF REFERENCE and carltarget, the imagination. Whoever wrote this should be proud. I wonder if they are Stephen Spielbergs son or something? Or was it Stephen King that wrote the lawmower man? Though this is so much more intricate.

That was really cool. What I got from this is that the AI was actually predicting the future. In gatherd so much information about the bad side of human behavior, that it could completely simulate the chain of events that would led to the death of those 3 people. Maybe it was even trying to warn his creator with all those photos. One picture for example had the dude who killed the scientist with a drill on it and a warning that he had a problem with "violent behavior". But the AI with its pictures also caused the events to happen in the first place, which makes this whole thing sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy but at the same time an inevitable one, 'cause the knowledge that the creation of the AI would lead to such a chain of events wouldn't exist without the AI. Or maybe there is no deeper meaning. In any case my brain kinda hurts now xD

The three of them weren't real. They were just the computer simulating violent events. That's why when she went to unplug it it switched to her calling the police. Unplugging it didn't lead to the violence it was attempting to simulate so it ended that path and switched to a different one. I suspect the real creators would be out there, either watching, or oblivious to the events that happened in this digital recreation.

i love scifi horrow,, event horizon is my fav scfi horror thriller.This short reminds me of that movie.thought provoking and a little mystery also. I am thinking a part 2 of this but leaaving the house via wifi or fibre and causing havoc all over and eventually be trapped in a server room with firewalled to keep him in.But then he escapes via a ssh tunnel port left open by a stupid grad student working for a tech company on a late night shift. He then excapes to google then shuts down youtube but finds his way to alter upload server.ending all things.Good day HAL......how we doing this morning.

I'm going to have to rewatch this, but it seemed like Carl was trying to warn them? Like the Seer that is blamed for causing events and can't prevent it. High levels of EMF can cause that level of paranoia and hallucinogenic visions, so Carl attempting to communicate through "signal" and the Faraday Cage cannot block magnetic fields ... I mean... most computer towers are already Faraday Cages, so ... trying to wrap mah head around the science of the AI telepathy. Unless the characters within the running simulation didn't realize they were a simulation and that's what we saw.
