They make great pieces, BUT for some reason, they were all about: how many pieces can use for a movement. More is not better. They need more service, than most, because of all the parts.

Great video Bill! If I didn't have my Montblanc Star GMT World Time I would take a more serious look at the Jaeger -LeCoultre. I also like the Faberge and the Armin Strom, but my favorite is the L.U.Chopard 1937. I have one on a Chopard bracelet and I love it. I agree with you, the strap on the 1937 in the video should be replaced with leather strap. The tire strap does nothing for the 1937, but I think it looks great on the Mille Miglia. Best regards, Brian

It turns out that that Fabergé has an ETA movement; not the Frédéric Piguet I thought. Beneath the Imperial Eagle on the back, you can just see the ETA logo and '2892A2'-. Still a nice watch, but not worth $6,499. That Armin Strom was the Best Buy of the lot and it got snatched up! The Choppard is my favorite 'hidden gem.' A lot of collectors will see the tire-tread band and be turned off. Those are the kinds of things I look for-bad straps, poor photos and ignorant sellers. Take care, Bill

I’m curious about your thoughts on the Chronoswiss, Campanola , RGM and Christiaan v.d. Klaauw
@watchartsci
@watchartsci 27 күн бұрын
Amgc: 1. Chronoswiss-mixed feeling about their movement. 2. Carnpanola-like their mechanical line; essentially they're by Citizen watch (who own La Joux Perret) who make standard horology movements-their prices are all over the map. Would suggest finding a Citizen brand watch that closely resembles a Campanula first. 3. RGM-A wide variety of movements-find a movement you like and then a model. I like the Corps of Engineer models. 4. Christiaan v.d. Klaaw. Conflicted about this brand. Had a Ceres 1974 and it had a cheap ETA movement and a very poor moon setting, and one of the most beautiful designs I've ever had. They have some beautiful watches, and astronomical modules-but details about their movements are vague and unclear.

The Fabergé Bill, is this really a Piguet movement, the photo on Federico's site shows it as a 2892A2 albeit with Fabergé rotor. I know your Fabergé has a Piguet, is it ETA based too or are yours and this Fabergé equipped with different movements?
@watchartsci
@watchartsci 27 күн бұрын
No it's not JB.I know it's a Frédéric Piguet 1150 or 1160 , but I believe you may be confusing the FP movement with Piaget watch movements and they're not related. I have no idea how you came up with the ETA base-it's not the base. Check out this link: reference.grail-watch.com/?s=Frédéric+Piguet+1150 Nothing related to ETA. Please explain how you reached your conclusion-I'd be interested. Take care, Bill

Hi, the Fabergé with blue dial at Delray has a photo of the case back, which is an exhibition case back, simply look at that photo, zoom in and there is an ETA symbol with 2892A2 next to it. Your Fabergé obviously is not the same movement as this and I'm sure is the FP you mention. But in your video you said the blue dial at Delray was a FP movement, but it can't be based on that photo.
@watchartsci
@watchartsci 27 күн бұрын
@@jb-hw9if Good grief!~ You are right JB! I had done a similar close search on my caliber F1857 and decided that my Fabergé Alexei would have the same movement as the Agathon sans the date. I was wrong! That Agathon has a pure and simple ETA 2892-A2; no Frédéric Piguet at all!! Thanks for your good eyes and insight. Bill
@jb-hw9if
@jb-hw9if 27 күн бұрын
Just looking at that link Bill, but there is no reference on Delray that the watch they have has a FP.. I'm sure your Fabergé does. So yeah, from the pictures at Delray their Fabergé had the ETA. @vovasRomas
@vovasRomas 26 күн бұрын
@@watchartsci That may be so, when you are buying the watch, but when you decide to sell, well, good luck with that. Also, if the watch doesn't have a box or papers, that means previous owner didn't care much for it or in the worst case the watch might even be stolen. Some time ago I came across a video, a guy brought 1976 Rolex Daytona to the dealer. It had box, papers, and the records of all the services performed every 5 to 7 years. That's the watch I'd want to buy. I mean, when you buy a car, you demand a CARFAX report at the minimum from a dealer. Even better, if they have service records. Why the watch should be any different? A lot of them cost more then a car.
@watchartsci
@watchartsci 26 күн бұрын
@@vovasRomas First, I've had no problems selling watches with no papers or boxes, nor have I had problems buying watches with neither-they've been fine. So as far as your "good luck" with that admonition, it looks like you may lack some experience along those lines. Second, a lot of buyers are concerned about fakes if no papers are available. What's easier to fake? A paper document or a watch? Take care, Bill
@watchartsci
@watchartsci 26 күн бұрын
@@vovasRomas Had I not just sold a watch for almost 10x what I paid for it (that had neither papers nor box), you "good luck" would have not been what you think. While it's nice to have original papers and boxes, you will pass up some great deals and finds. Papers are easily forged and replacement watch cases are easily replaced. Likewise some fantastic deals are from owners who are not collectors and never considered keeping the papers and boxes. Seriously, learn about horology, and you won't need to rely on papers, and if you have a watch case for your collection, the boxes just end up as clutter in a closet. Take care, Bill
