He was incredible. In some of his shows he did demonstrations of his pistol quick draw. They had actual competitions and he was known among western actors as one of..if not THE fastest draw. Each 'rat' pack' member had their charm, but I think overall Sammy had it all.

Sammy Davis Jr. was an American singer, dancer, actor, comedian, film producer & television director. He was also part of the famous "Rat Pack", led by his friend Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop & Peter Lawford. He appeared in many movies, television & performed in Las Vegas. Sammy had some great songs such as "Hey There", "Something’s Gotta Give", "That’s Entertainment", "Me & My Shadow", "I've Gotta Be Me", "The Candy Man", "Birth Of The Blues" etc.

Yes, it's enjoyable to watch him perform, but he's more talk-singing than singing here; the recorded version is much better for his vocals and melody.

He was great, saw him in 1968 (probably), I was quite young but my dad took the family to see him in London. It was at a flash place called "The Talk of the Town" and we had a nice meal and Sammy did a 2 or 3 hour set, he sang, danced, told jokes and stories, just amazing. I didn't know who he was before we went but it was one of the most entertaining nights out in my life.

Sammy Davis Jr. was the consumate entertainer. He started out in Vaudeville at the age of 3 with his dad and uncle: The Will Mastin Trio. Sammy could tap dance as a very small child. (There is old film of this). He eventually went out on his own and had an amazing and long career. When he was in his 20's he was in a horrific car accident where he lost his eye. Frank Sinatra stepped in and paid all of Sammy's medical bills, took him under his wing. When Sinatra was playing at engagements, if the hotel or club would not let Sammy stay or eat there, Sinatra would refuse to go on stage. Sinatra broke facial barriers so that Sammy could be treated equal. Much the same as Elvis did for his backup singers. Sammy could sing, tap dance with the best of them ( Bill "Bojangles" Robinson was one of the best of the old tappers from Vaudeville and '30's movies....check him out in old movie videos with child star Shirley Temple.) act, do impressions (of celebrities of the time), played several instuments. He did it all. Check out Sammy in these videos: * The tap battle scene with Gregory Hines, Sandman, Fayed Nicholes ( of the Nicholas Bros.) Several other old tappers and Sammy) *The Bang Bang dance # ( from the Rat Pack movie, Robin and the 7 Hoods. Sammy sings and dances. * The Birth of The Blues ( live video of Sammy singing on floating staircase) *Sammy singing "What Kind of Fool Am I "( video) "Old Man River ( live video sitting on stage) " I Gotta Be Me "( video) * Sammy playing drums ( drum battle with Buddy Rich video). or video of Sammy playing drums, piano and other instuments. * Or, video of Sammy dancing to the beat of 3 diff. drummers. Also check out old video of Hines, Hines and dad where Gregory Hines dances with his dad and brother when He was young. I used to see them on tv ( Ed Sullivan Show) when I was young and taking ballet and tap lessons. If you've never watched the old video of Cab Calloway and The Nicholas Brothers "Jumpiin' Jive" from the movie "Stormy Weather" , you need to do so. It's a must see! Love your channel, your delivery, enthusiasm and love your smile.

Hey Biz, I thought I'd also suggest another artist to check out, if interested. *"Gregory Hines & Sammy Davis Jr. " (by the channel: vasias)* --Gregory Hines was an American dancer, actor, choreographer and singer. He is one of the most celebrated tap dancers of all time. He and Sammy Davis Jr. shared a long history of collaborations. Thier deep understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses allowed them to create something truly special that showcased both their talent's. So, get those tissues handy because this is truly heartwarming stuff, bro. peace out~

It's called being professional. There is no real talent in any music today. Back in the day singers had talent, in was in their blood just like real musicians. Since the late 90's it's just been about the Money, no class, no talent, no nothing, just the cash, cars, house. drugs and jewelry flash, that's all it is. There is no Honor in music today. It's all just repeated Noise and all sounds the same.
