Hey Biz!!! Been out of commission for awhile here in Western NC after Hurricane Helene, then I fell and broke 2 ribs a few weeks ago, messed up my shoulder & my knee. THEN I found out 2 of my daughters are expecting with due dates 4 days apart & the youngest is having twins AND all 3 babies are boys!!! It’s been a busy but stressful few months. Please continue to send prayers to this area because folks are far from getting back to normal. I love this song!! It’s always been one of my favorites ♥️🎶 Great to see you again!!

The Temptations were live on the View today 12/17. Its the 60th Anniversary of their biggest hit, "My Girl" There is only one of the original group still with us. But I have to say, they still sound fantastic and are dressed to perfevtion and as smooth as ever. Always a class act. Still touring. Great intrumental sounds on this song.......and the vocals are out of this world!. Ah, the music from my generation lives on forever.

This was the shortened radio version. There is a longer version on the album. This was at the height of quadrophonic sound.

It's just sad they don't make music like this anymore. So much soul and that 70's guitar groove sets it off for me. Love the Temptations , keep diving in :)

When a song starts with Bass or drums 95% of the time it is a huge hit! and with Motown if it had a Sax, it was a hit! Like a secret recipe.

I remember this song from back in the day and you’re right, it does sound like something that would’ve been a soundtrack behind a 1970s Harlem or Chicago Southside movie setting. What I love about it is that the instruments get as much focus as the vocals. I don’t listen to much modern music, but I feel like what I have heard is all autotuned vocals & electronic instruments. So glad this old time music is still around for you young whippersnappers to discover & enjoy! 😅

Cool! There were a lot of crossover hits in the seventies. Bear in mind that back then the internet did not exist and there were only a handful of television stations. People read newspapers everyday and still read books. And there were no cell phones. More to the point, there were radios everywhere. Today many people have a television set in every room in their house. Back then they had a radio in every room in the house. But the most important radios were the radio in the kitchen, the radio in the garage, and the radio in the car. Those were the radios that played the music people listened to while they worked household chores and the like, weaving the music directly into the fabric of everyday life. And back then headphones were expensive, so listening to music was a shared experience, not a solipsistic endeavor cut off from the world. The music produced back then had to be greater than good because the audience came highly prepared to listen to it and ready to reject the stinkers, confident that a better song would arrive soon.

This is only one of the great Norman Whitfield compositions. Some others are: "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" "You're My Everything" "I Wish It Would Rain" "Cloud Nine" "I Can't Get Next to You" "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)" "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" "I Know I'm Losing You" "Car Wash" "Smiling Faces Sometimes" "War" "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"

This is later Motown. "Wah-Wah Watson on the guitar, probably Bob Babbit on bass (it doesn't have the feel of Jamerson to me, but I might be wrong) Maurice Davis' trumpet lines and Earl Van Dyke on the Fender Rhoads are just a few of the great musicians on this track. I love your reactions to the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and times 🤘 Tioraidh an-drasta Alba gu bràth 🏴
@joeboucher695Күн бұрын
I think the bass is disputed. Pretty sure I saw or read an interview with Bob Babbitt where he said that it was originally Jamerson on the session but that he walked out at some point and BB was called in. Even he wasn't sure who was in the final mix. Thought it was himself but not certain.

It must be wild for all those studio musicians to know that they're part of the biggest musical classics that are now legendary. But I'm sure they didn't see it that way at the time, it was probably just a regular job for them.

I was 21 when this song came out. Growing up in Detroit, on WKNR, CKLW, this was just one genre we listened to and loved. I have that CD you showed. Granted all the great groups have new people, but they can't hold a candle to the originals.

I cant imagine any cover version would be better than this! I'm glad you liked it. Love your reaction, but your singing has got to go! You could turn your mike off while you're singing. It's kind of embarrassing. Have you listened to it? Lol!
