The musical talent is strong with this group. They had a sound that included old English folk, which they fused with rock. I remember this group well from the early 70s. Weird thing is that I like them better now than I did then. JT should be in the rock and roll hall of fame.

Probably my favorite band, so much amazing nuance and subtlety, all while completely rocking out. Thanks much for the reaction, do more Tull, they are definitely one of the top shelf bands.

Love Jethro Tull! They knew how to rock hard, but really my favorite Tull songs are all more like this one. If you like this vibe, you should listen to Witch's Promise, Inside, Wonder'in Again, Just Tryin' To Be, Life Is A Long Song, Up The Pool, Salamander, and Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of A New Day for a good start. There are many great ones! Thanks for sharing more Tull. 🙂

Jethro Tull was a British inventor who in 1701 devised the automatic seed planter that planted and spaced the seed for farming. He helped revolutionize British agriculture with this and other innovations.

This song instantly takes me back about 200-300 years. The carefree, natural vibe in the song is just so good. Ian's acoustic guitar playing is just great.

Until you are familiar with the literary works associated with 'Mother Goose' (which go back centuries), the lyrics will remain challenging. Piccadilly Circus is the name of a famous street intersection in London, England - it's London's Times Square.

AFAIK, Aqualung was not a concept album, however, in reaction to people saying Aqualung was a concept album they came up with Thick as a Brick...which was a parody of concept albums... (you need to see the mock newspaper that came with the album) and then they put out Passion Play...

"Three or four songs do not a concept album make" - Ian Anderson, referring to the Aqualung album. This quote is from an interview with him on Bill Bailey's "Top Ten" Prog Rock. Think it's the BBC?

Love this one! From this album do My God and Up to Me. I know when I see you singing along that you’re digging it. I’m not sure if you know that the lead singer and flautist is Ian Anderson. Jethro Tull is the name of the band. Ian was adamant that it was NOT a concept album. Piccadilly Circus is a very liberal, artsy section of London.

Aqualung is a reference to the homeless old man's breathing, it sounds like an aqualung (scuba tanks), "deep sea diver sounds".

Hey Biz, I'm nealy 66 years old and my very first concert in 1974 was the War Child album's tour at the Forum in L.A. A favorite JT song of mine is "Minstrel in the Gallery" but there are many. I've seen them 7 or 8 times, most recently probably 20 years ago. The entire album is really great and should be listened to in the order of the record. My personal favorite is " "Wind Up" Lyric context note: " He's not the kind you wind-up on Sunday". ( not blowing wind but, winding up a toy - so to speak) Aqualung has generally been regarded as a concept album with a central theme of "the distinction between religion and God" But, really, the band does not consider it a concept album. The album’s first half is partially inspired by pictures of the London homeless, taken by Ian Anderson’s wife. The second half is more philosophical, dealing mainly with Anderson’s views on organized religion. Albums such as Thick as A Brick, Minstrel In The Gallery, and A Passion Play are concept albums. Keep up the great reactions & reviews BizMatik!

Slam your fingers in a car door every time you get annoyed at this. You will stop getting annoyed that someone thinks that a band named after a person might be in the band.

"Aqualung a concept album" That very claim upset Ian Anderson so much, he wrote the album Thick As A Brick as a sarcastic answer. Ian claims no, any resemblance in unintentional.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the Lyrics in this one - they are fairly nonsensical. ("Picadilly Circus" is a place in London - not an actual circus.)
