In this song, he s singing as a modern day man, who appears to be the cowboy re-incarnated. He feels like he remembers it all, even though it was long before his time.

Biz, thank you for playing this great song from the great Marty Robbins. What a voice this man had. Reading the shlyrics to El Paso City, I'm thinking that Marty intended some kind of a supernatural angle to the song. The narrator sings these lines - "Can it be that man can disappear from life and live another time? And does the mystery deepen 'cause you think that you yourself lived in that other time?" It's 1976 and the man in the plane has his mind drift back to a song he heard long ago, and suddenly it occurs to him, that he could very well be that man from the song who lived so many years before. It's kind of like a Twilight Zone episode. I hope you give a listen to the Porter Wagoner songs I mentioned before. Great stuff.

I think it may be taken like the same old love story keeps repeating itself in mankind in many generations. And how many of these stories has such an iconic town like El Paso witnessed through so many years!

This song is present time. 30,000 feet above El Paso, he's in a jet flying over the city. The man in this song remembers things of the past that he shouldn't know. He thinks he lived during that time, and is now living in this time. He knows that cowboy was actually him in a past life.

She was a dancer in a saloon in the old west. She wasn't bad, It was her job to dance, flirt with the men, and encourage them to drink. El Paso City takes place in modern times, and he is in an airplane. He is wondering why he knows so much about the cowboy and Feleena. He thinks he might have been the cowboy in another lifetime. He is afraid to go to El Paso because he's afraid he might be killed again.

Something else that might interest you is that El Paso is not the city's full name. It is actually El Paso del Norte. Which means, "The Pass to the North." It stands at the opening of the Tularosa Basin in New Mexico. That basin contains White Sands National Monument and far to the north is is a small volcano called "Valley of Fires." It laid down some inky black basalt lava. Not to good to walk on. If you slip it will slice you up. As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe!

I'm a hard metal rock fan but Marty Robbins reminds me of shooting rifles with my dad back in the 1970's. Not at people, at bottles full of water 🍶🔫.

Great set of reactions, Sir!! I read somewhere about a year ago that Marty was working on a fourth song when he passed away in 1982... I guess we'll never know if the man in this song was actually the cowboy reincarnated in modern times.

Followed you here. LOL!!! "Brah! There's so many mysteries that I don't understand (either). I have so many questions!!!" Thank you for one of the best reactions. I don't think the cowboy was stupid. It was just real life back then.

It could be that he has been reincarnated and is starting to realize it or that he has become so invested in the story that he has convinced himself that it was him. Either way, it will look the same from his perspective.
