Good lord, this reminds me of the almost frantic way in which I sat down working to learn all these songs. As a young guy in a rock band, this album was a boon for us ass-kicking rockers. Those first six albums provided so much material for loud, ass-kicking rock and roll. Perfection.

Ya gotta love those old Van Halen tracks..... Diamond Dave's voice was as important as Eddie's Guitar.. in the late 70's Van Halen was the house band at a club called Hollywood a go go. The Doors were also at one point the house band there. When I was in high school me and some friends on Friday Saturday nights would sneak in and watch them amount others. I have Van Halen's autograph in 1977.the last time I saw Van Halan with David Lee Roth was the US Festival in Devor CA in 1983. that was a great concert 3 days long. Love your take on this Great band. Important members leaving would have been the end to most bands but it just makes Van Halan stronger...they are the are the Energizer Bunny of rock groups lol

My friend, I just now watched your reaction (10/24/2024 @ 11:47 Pacific Daylight Time) and I heard responding to a coment about you doing more from the first album (Van Halen) and you had the belief that you did all the songs from the first album. So I went to check (I own all and I mean all Van Halen albums on vinyl, CD and mp3. I am a bit of a nut so I blame it on the fact that I have a mobile DJ business, although it has nothing to do with that. So, like I said I checked and found you might be as nutty about VH as me, LOL! You have done a boat load of VH reactions! However, You have only done 10 of the 11 songs from Van Halen, 11 if you count doing both the studio and the live version of Runni' With The Devil. You do the ACTUAL Eruption as the live version that we enjoy so much is a combination of Eruption, Spanish Fly and Cadence. I have not seen a live video anywhere that captures the actual Eruption live and for that matter the ONLY time I have seen it was in 1978 when they were touring the first album. When I saw them in 1979 they were touring Van Halen II and he added in the Spanish Fly licks. In the 7 times I saw them live, I saw the actual Eruption 1 time and the Eruption/Spanish Fly solo 6 times. I never Saw them after David Lee Roth left and since Cadence was on 5150 it was not added into his live solo until they toured 5150. They need to name it Eruption/Spanish Fly/Cadence!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do the ACTUAL Eruption from Van Halen's debut album Van Halen! (FYI on vinyl Eruption fades [no gap] into You Really Got Me. All digital versions put an f'ing gap between them. When we heard on the radio in those days it was ALWAYS both! I hate dthat gap so much that I used my Cool Edit Pro and combined the tracks so in my database it is titled "Van Halen - Eruption - You Really Got Me.mp3" and now if I am DJing someplace and you catch me playing it you will hear that version! I use it a lot for a sane sound check! Here is a CD track listing my friend! Most important with the early stuff was very few overdubs - Ed's playing rhythm and lead so the rhythm is carried by bass/drums while lead is melting your face - that's the way Hendrix did it too!

If you're starting on VH 2, Full Bug is a great choice. Yes, you should do the album version of Eruption. I was running a 5k once just as the ending of this song was blaring right through the finish line. 😂 vroom, vroom!! 🏃‍♀️💨

I prefer these linear, 4 track guitar solos. As opposed to the later "piece meal" solos Eddie did, with the help of the 16 and 32 multi track recording. They were more "song" oriented. Rather than "burn and learn." Although, his solo on "Hot For Teacher" is maybe his best. So...what can I say? 😊
