What a show! Almost every watch worthy of a comment. The PO1 has a genuine toolishness that's Sinn like where all other Tudors look alike and the Gronfeld movement is amazing in it's finishing. Like your minimalist format too, especially the "instant lume" shots. Thanks for a cheery Wed.

The Grönefeld is the stunner of this show. Can't even decide which one I love more - De Bethune, Laurent Ferrier, Grönefeld. Definitely all more than FPJ and also HMoser, even though they are still great independents. Don't mention Greubel Forsey now, that is just so out of my league, I wouldnt even consider them :)

The 2nd-gen Sinn Damaszener looks so much nicer in its natural steel tone, rather than with the hard-black coating of the original 2016 version. Which was wonderful too, but resembled Black Ash more than Damascus steel IMO. Oh and the Grönefeld’s movement looks stunning!
@the1916companywatchreviews4 жыл бұрын
The original was curiously masked by the hard-black treatment; you almost couldn't see the pattern. I wonder if the coating didn't have something to do with Sinn not achieving the desired effect on bare steel. The first watch had an SUG-made (Sinn) case, but the second one wasn't SUG-stamped, and Sinn notably credited German supplier Balbach Damast with providing the wrought steel this time. Best, Tim
@DavidDatura4 жыл бұрын
WatchBox Reviews you might be onto something there. As in hindsight Sinn hard-black coating what is usually quite beautiful Damascus steel, seemed an odd decision.

I always liked the 5153G. I wished Hunter s were a lot more common! I’ve always loved Breguet’s case design. But those silvered dials look best with white metal cases. How would the rolex milgauss/airking stack up against the exsplorer 1/ oysterperpetual 39 in terms of case comfort , and movement toughness? If i’m not mistaken the explorer/O.P is significantly thinner and more cuff friendly ; plus the movement has “ paraflex shock absorbers” that the milgauss/airking lack according to the specifications on the rolex website. Is that to say that the explorer/O.P is tougher?
@the1916companywatchreviews4 жыл бұрын
The Millgauss/Air King is a much chunkier watch than the Oyster Perpetual 39. Also, the OP39 includes a more basic bracelet and clasp without Easylink. Paraflex isn't clearly better than Incabloc, but it's notable for being built under Rolex's own roof. This is nice to know, but it's more of a means of liberating Rolex production from outside suppliers. Kif also is very good, and Rolex used that for generations. Best, Tim

There were quite a few $1,500-5,000 watches in this one, and that's as low a price point as we feature on watches at my company. It's not "cheap," but they're also not disposable, generic brands, or fashion micro-brands that typically occupy price points below the four-figure range. But the advantage is that all of the watches are lifetime serviceable, products of brands that will be around to support owners, and all of these watches has secondary markets with willing buyers if you ever decide to sell.
