In dialogue between what are alleged to be experienced personnel, the captain should NOT have to tell the comms officer to boost the signal. A good comms officer should SAY he's boosting the signal, so the captain (and audience) will know what's going on. It's not hard to write people this way, it's just that we've all been contaminated by the Star Trek model of shipboard operations.

As a fan of the Alien series, I thoroughly enjoyed what felt like a well executed tribute to the franchise, with it's own unique touch! The Alien references I noticed were at 3:15 (same alarm sound as on the Nostromo in ALIEN), the fact that the planet they land on is windy af, the helmets picking up a "rogue transmission" (Covenant) and of course the saliva dripping onto the unsuspecting victim. And as another commenter noted, only giving brief glimpses of the creature, leaving you to fill in the blanks so to speak. Well done short by very talented people and clearly fans of ALIEN. Thank you DUST for curating excellent content, as always!

The main thing it lacks in the Alien comparison is the social commentary. Alien took an extremely dim view of the corporation running the show; people died specifically because of decisions it made. So this has some of the surface-level tropes from Alien, but nothing deeper.

Personally I despise time travel plots. They're lmaost always done wrong and are just a cop-out tool for the writers to do whatever they want (exploiting the paradox wrongly). Very few time travel stories are good or interesting like the movie "Primer" or the book "Thrice Upon a Time". Babylon 5 skirted the main issues (of time travel) by making it cool and not matter in the actual current plot.

This is an example of how small things can leave a bigger impression on the overall feeling of a film than you might realize. Having the two guys who come up to the helm that don't know the importance of being able to get a reading on the land, also have the knowledge to suggest sending down a beacon ship to get readings. Then that leads to thinking about other contextual things relative to current times and the setting of the movie. Such as you're in the future and you can travel to other planets with your billion dollar vessel, but don't have the ability to use a drone that you can send down if all you're trying to accomplish is get readings from a scan? Shows the importance of writing across genres.

I really liked it. Great job on the alien. You used a trick that I haven't seen in modern films. I think it makes it much more scary. Directors like Jack Arnold and Alfred Hitchcock would often use it. The idea was to only give you glimpses of the creature and force your mind to fill in the blanks. The mind can make a simple costume in the dark turn into something much more horrific than any amount of special effects can. Not sure if time was a constraint, but I would suggest giving the audience a little more time to build suspense. Areas like the process of landing, moving through the building. A couple of jump scares that are false like something falling over etc... In all I thought you did a great job.

This was really good, suspenseful and a sci-fi horror show, could make for a great movie. There's nothing wrong with the acting, they played their roles well. They did great with the CGI work, the ship looks believable. I really enjoyed this short show, wish it was longer really. If I had to make one critique, it would be in the beginning where we saw the planet. We're told there's a massive storm on the planet but, when they show the planet and ship, the planet doesn't look like there's a massive storm rolling over the planet. Maybe no one else really noticed but, that's really all I can say for a critique, I did enjoy this and do want more. Great job to the team who made 'Recursion'.

Definite 'Alien' feel to it, but in the original film, some of their VFX were cheesy too. The masks they used in med bay and the tubes from Ash's innards - having been a 902xx in the AF, the items were easily recognizable. BUT, with that said, enjoyed it and very much agree with others - flesh it out more and make a full length movie - I'd pay money to see it.

Well shot, fast paced and competently acted; you can't find much of that on paid TV anymore, the praise is well deserved. Also, as a former USAF 304XX, I do appreciate seeing the AFCC patch early on (I was in when it was upgraded to a command and it still is, by Gawd!), though I couldn't remember what Army unit the rest of the patches were; that gave me a bit of a throw-off since I recognized them, realized I'm probably one of the few who actually recognized them and that's why you used them. A very minor peccadillo.
