When I was active duty, in my profession we were issued watches for the field. They were mechanical but not automatic. They were designed without parts that would trigger an IEDs. But you had to wind it every day. I can’t remember the brand. Most other guys just wore G-Shocks of varying styles. Some higher ranking offices would have high end pieces like Rolex, but that’s their personal preference.

Toyoda Kiichiro the founder of Toyota once wrote or said how winding a watch everyday bring you into a harmonious connection with the watch, and that being able to care for your car should generate the same harmonious connection with it. This was reprinted a couple of years ago in 'Toyota Magazine' (the free magazine they have in dealerships or send out if you have a service plan) when talking about why even today you get a toolkit with every new Toyota. So perhaps that is why his grandson wears a mechanical watch. Perhaps the Patek even was his grandfathers. btw the current Toyota emblem is three ovals, once representing the customer, one representing the company inside a third representing the two existing together in harmony. To go back to the founders analogy.

@denisdaly17084 жыл бұрын
There is a good reason for this. They have high status, and so don't need to wear watches to promote and advertise their status. It is the status seekers, who want to project an image higher than they are, who wear the more expensive watches.
@alvinbradbury569925 күн бұрын
Why ? They are human, making lots of money does not mean that you are into everything expensive. Some people are also not into watches all that much so there are wealthy people who don't wear them or when they do it's not expensive. However, they may pout their funds into other things.

Probably the Walmart CEO with the watch for 300-600 dollars. I personally understand him completely. You may have a 200 dollar wtach but jump 40 years latter and that cheap model will be known as the watch of(insert name here). If you have such a high sentiment for an object you got from your first scolarship, or the first money you earned, it will stick with you even when you become succesful. The expensive 50 000 dollar watches will be awesome but they won't be your watch, the watch that helped you not be late for that crucial exam in your 4th year, and latter the watch which helped you not be late for your first date with your future wife. Such things add important sentiment.

Hey, Teddy. I checked out your straps on your website. They look gorgeous. A concern of mine is I didn't see any information as to where the straps are produced. If only the Teddy's Guarantee included a commitment to ethically produced straps in addition to your commitment to high-quality products.

Totally understand this. The straps are either manufactured in France or in China. I am working with a few different manufacturers on these original releases and tried to balance quality and affordability with these initial products. Happy to answer any other questions or concerns regarding this.

All of these people are business people and they understand the power of their own brand. They buy quality and value. Too little watch would raise questions about their commitment to personal appearance, too much watch would be off-putting to their shareholders, customers and employees. They are practical people. The Richest man in the world, Bill Gates, wears a Casio. He's making a statement that he's so rich he doesn't care what you think. Dragon's Den Kevin O'Leary wears quality watches with a Red band, because that is his brand and he understands that he is in the entertainment business. That business requires high profile, instantly recognizable branding and his red strapped Rolex Hulk, garish as it might be, is a fantastic testament to his marketing genius. It is bold, garish, unapologetic, and instantly recognizable.
