The Master and Margarita. Episode "Crucifixion".

Master and Margarita (2005) is a Menippean film based on the eponymous book by Mikhail A. Bulgakov. Set in Moscow under Stalin and in Jerusalem under Pilate, it has several story-lines where history, religion and politics are intertwined. The sacrifices of Master, a talented author of a manuscript about the biblical Pontius Pilate, and Master's muse - Margarita, are paralleled by the biblical story of Ieshua in Ierushalaim, and the deceit of the cowardly ambiguous Pilate, whose character alludes to a Soviet leader. The reality is distorted by Satan Woland , and his lieutenants, who are manipulating public events and people's lives by pushing the buttons of human weaknesses and sins. Margarita taps into Woland's power, trying to save Master. The character of Master is autobiographical, burning of his manuscript alludes to what Bulgakov himself did under threats from the Soviet authorities.

He didn't die from the spear! HE AS PIERCED AFTER HE DIED TO MAKE SURE HE WAS DEAD. Jesus was not a nordic man with blond hair. He is a dark-skinned man with back wavy/curly hair because he was middle eastern.

Yeshua is not Jesus ... He is a character in the novel written by the Master, and is only an allusion to Jesus. He has no 12 apostles, no parents, he is not a carpenter, but a philosopher. And in many respects he has a different story, containing only distant hints of a biblical story.

Jesus Christ died for us. Blessed is He who comes in the Name of The Lord. I wish there was one Passion of Christ film that got the whole thing right. They all show Jesus with his Disciples at the Last Supper, and in the Garden of Gethsemane, but after that, they all go astray. You must remember the multiple trials, the scourging, the crowning with thorns, everything that occurred during the carrying of the cross, and the Crucifixion. Many movies get it wrong, or in the wrong sequence. With this movie, Jesus was not taken to Calvary in a cage, and He was wearing a Crown of Thorns. God bless you all.

The placard around Jesus' neck was written in three languages Greek, Latin and Hebrew. And they were nailed above the victims head. All three crucified prisoners had these placards nailed above their crosses not just Jesus. It started their name, where they're from, and the crime for which they were crucified. Plus Crucifixion was a public form of capital punishment. So people were invited to witness the execution. You could say that Crucifixion was a public service announcement from the Roman Empire. "If you mess with us, this is what you will get." Besides the crosses were placed on the roadways so people will walk by and see them die. The crosses weren't high off the ground, but literally where the condemned was eye level with the passerby's. Also Jesus was already dead before the Roman legionary pierced Him. The other two criminals legs were broken to hasten their death.

It was also the Roman custom for the condemned to be crucified stripped competely naked. The loincloths worn in films and classical paintings are merely a sop to religious and cultural sensibilities in respect to full-frontal male nudity.

The Gospels are not some "live newswire reports by our correspondent in Jerusalem", their accounts of what happened at Passion are stylized and worked over to some degree to convey a message (the references to OT quotes, for example). Just like most conventional "Jesus films".

Perpetuates the usual cinematic nonsense of the condemned being crucified with their modesty preserved with loincloths. Those the Romans condemned to death by crucifixion were executed totally naked. Indeed, having been stripped naked for floggiing/scourging, many sources contend that the condemned remained naked thereafter, being publically paraded stark-naked to their place of execution.
