It might be heresy to say it, but I think that in recent years, Vacheron has very much overtaken Patek as the height of Swiss horology. The movement on this watch only proves it, it's absolutely stunning. I think these days, only Lange can truly compete with Vacheron for quality (outside of custom builds like Roger Smith)
@johnnashsnr8563 Жыл бұрын
Vacheron has always been true to it's heritage and quality. They have not sold out to celebrities and fads and Marvel superhero deals to make more money. This is truly a serious watch collector's watch. You don't buy it for the bling or for the fame or because a tennis superstar or rapper wears it. You buy it because you know, that only a few will ever own one, for the right reasons.

Vacheron is king, notice how we’ve never seen any tiny issues on a vacheron during these videos, while we always see little tiny errors on PP and AP and Rolex as well during the macro shots

"You don't tell the time on a Vacheron Constantin." Brilliant and accurate, it's a bit like going to a museum for education but being stopped dead by a Picasso.
@PB-cx7wf4 жыл бұрын
This tribute to Vacheron Constantin touched me thoroughly. Although I could not describe my feelings about that brand as poetic and precise like you did, but I basically share the same emotions. I still don’t own my personal VC timepiece because of two simple problems: 1. Could not yet decide which model to choose: a Fifty-six, an Overseas, a Quai de l’Ile or a Harmony Dual Time? They are all so unique and beautiful watches, I would like to have all of them! 2. The reason why I still not even started with the first one... well, to be honest: it’s a lot of money for such a tiny instrument!
@johnnyguitar66974 жыл бұрын
You could do a lot worse than getting a Quai de l'Ile. It is beautifully executed, very distinctive and, as far as VC is concerned, quite reasonably priced for a watch bearing the Geneva hallmark.

That is a beautiful watch. I typically tend to stay away from Roman numerals, but only having them placed at 6 & 12 and bars for the rest looks good on this dial.

Bleach bypass for filmstock has been done since the late 1930s. It was a popular effect in the '50s before Deakins rediscovered it. (nothing against him, he is a certifiable genius) Best use of it was arguably in "Seven". Film is beautiful, you have to know what you are doing to utilize it. It's harder to do and it's sweeter when it turns out well. The tube amps, standard transmissions, watches that beat... I'm just glad I'm not the last one who appreciates this sort of thing. Damn that's a gorgeous watch.

Vacheron Constantin is indeed the serious watch collector's watch. It is still hand finished to Geneva Hallmark standards and their movement and finishing is by far, better than AP and Patek by leaps and bounds. Once you have worn a VC, you won't like wearing any other watches. I own 5 VCs, from the Big Date OS Chrono to the Ultra Thin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar and the 2 retrograde models. Seriously, Patek and AP have taken a beating in terms of quality and their GG designs, are so overused, ita become a symbol for fake replica watches. But of course, there are still zombies who crave the Genta styling on the bezel and case, like the hideous Nautilus and the uncivilized edges of the Royal Oak.
@adolfolerito6744 Жыл бұрын
I couldn’t agree more with what you are saying. Sadly I am way too poor to even dream of owning a Vacheron Constantin, but luckily I work with a master watchmaker, and I have had what I consider the incredible luck of laying my eyes on this very Cornes de Vache and even a vintage 4178, and I cannot even explain the sheer, unadulterated beauty of watching those movements under a microscope… it is something that no words can express, and it’s just leagues away from the same seen and re-seen look and engineering that every single Genta-designed watch of any brand brings to the table. It’s literally leagues away.

The vinyl and photography analogies hit a little too close to home, that I am somehow right in the middle. My turntable connects to a Sonos Port for whole home audio. My Sony A9 usually has a Zeiss 35/f2 manual focus lens on it. The modern heritage watch probably explains my Panerai PAM 183G and the recent technology classic of a first gen Tissot T-Touch Titanium.

Vacheron is the only Holy Trinity with the Hallmark of Geneva, a true testament to hand finished to traditional Swiss standards. The oldest watch company with 266 year uninterrupted production record, Vacheron is a watch you buy when you ARE 'somebody', unlike Rolex, AP and PP which are watches you buy when you want to BE 'somebody'. Vacheron collectors never worry about resale value or the return on investment for the watch, because we really have 'made it' unlike the wannabe PP, AP and Rolex speculators.

If I bought this watch it would never get on my wrist because I would be sat holding it, watching those hands sweep round their dials, looking at that beautiful dial, the mix of colours and metals, getting the angle right so that I can get the shadows on the dial furniture playing on the dial. Then, if my gaze can be dragged away I can go look at the power train that moves those hands so smoothly, here my eyes come to rest on a wonderful movement, everything looking just right, not too sparkly just perfect. Then many hours later I turn the watch over to put on my wrist and I see detail in that case I hadn't seen before, I pause and look taking in the depth of the shine and how it changes in the light. I could go on and on and on, this VC is just stunning, if only I could afford one.

I think film is still better at capturing pictures. It captures/stores data on actual chemical material while digital is limited to the number of pixels on the sensor. You can get more information from a film later on after scanning it with a higher resolution digital camera while the digital image is stuck at whatever resolution it was taken at the time.

In some cases vinyl actually *does* sound better. You're not imagining it. It very much depends on how old the original music is, and how it was originally recorded. Take a '50s or '60s Jazz album, for example. That music can *never* sound as good as it did when the master tapes were brand new, transferred to the original vinyl editions using the very high quality equipment available then. How old were those original tapes when the Tidal version of the album was created? 40 years old? 50? Were the original tapes even used, or did they create the digital from 2nd or even 3rd gen safety copies of the tapes? That's how you get a digital version that's "fine" and a vinyl version that's "incredible."
