Mine has been on fire from using an oxyacetylene torch, drowned in trans fluid, brake fluid, gear oil, engine oil, DEF and other fluids and still works like a charm, takes beatings when i grab a hammer or use my air hammer and its pretty slim but sometimes I do need to take it off for a very confined space.

For a service technician I can highly recommend the Casio W-735H. Vibrating alarm watch, so if you're in a loud mechanical plant room and you need a timer or an alarm just set it to vibration and all of a sudden it doesn't matter how loud the machines around you are. It also has 100m of water resistance and it's a faux G-Shock, but I can attest to it that it can easily survive a 5-6m drop without any issues like the real deal. It's the best tool watch for someone who's using actual tools in my opinion.

My absolute favorite watch is the G Shock Rangeman. Solar, super tough, easy to use buttons with gloves, Altimeter, Barometer, Compass. I could just use this watch and nothing else, it is so comfortable that I have fallen asleep with it. You could look at Omega. They are basically amagnetic with a rating of 15000 Gauss. cf. Milgauss from Rolex with a mere 1000 hence the name. Rolex use a Faraday cage design but the relevant components of Omega movements are themselves non-ferrous. They also have the co-axial escapement invented by George Daniels and used in movements only by Roger Smith, Daniels' only apprentice and now a Master Watchmaker, and Omega. (increased accuracy). They do a Planet Ocean with GMT complication I believe. There's your watch, Darkeye! (uni-directional bezel I think though)

Something to note for the motorsport watches these guys didn't mention- back from the early days until the mid 60s at least racing cars didn't have a speedometer, generally knowing the engine revs was more important along with other indicators for pressures and temperatures and another vacuum or wire line added complexity but occasionally for working out their own pace they wanted to know. Of course RADAR traps and team radio wasn't a thing so they used a watch, nice big face with easy to press buttons was best and they timed themselves between two known points. So the watches where more for speed than lap times, official boards with the times would be shown on the start/finish straight.

This was brilliant guys. I love that the PloProf was on the list from Tom, that shark proof bracelet has it all unless there is a bite higher up where it would be less handy. The other lot that you have to be careful of are those pesky octopi, those eight tentacled watch robbers that can whip off you watch without you knowing. Fortunately they only go after divers. Now for a watch for a professional city drain cleaner would have to be a Mudmaster, not the digital but the old ana-digi one, even covered in lots of clag at least one of the displays will be able to tell you the time and that compass will give you an idea of the direction. You may still want to be careful of those rogue octopi though who are on the run from sharks that also want to know what time it is.

Re: Navitimer A 20 dollar E6-b or Poole CRP type calculator is what pilots used to use to make all their calculations. The modern Navitimer has a 60 minutes counter dial which is a massive improvement in comparison to the early APOA model which had only a 30 minutes dial.; however, a Seiko chronograph with a US $ 7-T-92 with a quartz moment is the best choice as it has a totalizer comprised of two dials: an outer dial with a detailed 60 minutes with minutes notches and an inner dial with 12 hours like in the old WWII Luftwaffe Type B Flieger watch. The Seiko watch makes RAF low flying dead-reckoning navigation technique --older Brits and other commonwealth air force pilots know what I'm talking about-- much easier on the single pilot in the cockpit. The Seiko 7-T-92 OCFO Seiko is my choice. Flightmaster chronograph NSA 411 has a 9-T-62 movement and its 12 hour totalizer's dial is less detailed, hence less suitable for the task at hand..

This is how cars and roadside obstacles used to be built, so that they survived an impact with minimal damage, without any thought for how that energy might affect the driver. Likewise, I want my watch to dissipate the energy of a hard knock by breaking or bending, not rigidly transferring the energy into my wrist's flesh and bone.
