Appreciate the honest review. Your points are in line with my feedback on this watch as well. Luminox sent me a watch to review and as much as I love the watch, I can’t justify the price.

I've had this watch three years worn in an office environment. It stopped working so I sent it in through the warranty service. Come to find out there is only a two year warranty on these watches. The repair guys quoted me about $225 for a complete movement rebuild. Again this was worn in an office environment. If your looking for a rugged watch I would carefully decide on which brand to choose.

I agree with you about the pricing. Just get yourself a nice Gshock Mudmaster instead. It may not be 1/3 the price, but the GWG-1000 can be bought for $200 less than this and is self charging, self adjusting, also comes with a compass plus a couple of extra sensors.

For that price I would just get the marathon JSAR, which I do have & love. A notable mention is the bertucci super yankee, sapphire crystal, titanium case with integrated Spring bars, 10 yr battery life for $285. I’m glad you shared this video!

I was gifted this watch and I’m liking it much more than I thought I would. To be honest I didn’t want anything to do with this brand after a horrible experience with a NAVY SEAL color mark. Bought it falling for the “tough” image but in the first months the crystal scratched easily, a broken strap, fallen tritium tubes, broken bezel and water leak (that may have to do with me trying to fix the tubes) but hated the thing. But this one feels very well made. Much more dependable surely won’t surpass a G-Shock but pretty good for regular life. Also not very fond of the Bear Grylls stuff.

This is not plastic, it´s carbon. The $800 GPR B 1000 G-Shock Rangeman is made of plastic, not this.

@@MrCarpen7er To be fair.. the G-shock has waay more technology than this.. solar to beggin with and built in GPS.. The analog forgman has a unique case that does not compare to this conventional watch.

Great review as usual. Spot on with the pricing analysis too. For a couple hundred more you could get a Marathon with steel case and tritium. $200 to $300 sounds far more realistic. Thanks.

Luminox rely on brand loyalty, military association and ambiguous endorsements... I own 2 and whilst I like them (not love though) both and especially the lume, I must confess that I fell for the marketing. They’re ok but they don’t merit the price tag and I’m going to be selling both to finance another watch, more than likely another G-Shock... I’ve never been disappointed with any G-Shock I’ve owned and this has only served to enhance my brand loyalty with them allied to my desire for other models in their range. In my humble opinion, I do think that Casio work harder than most rugged watch manufacturers to constantly revise and innovate... just when you think they’ve run that race, they throw the gauntlet down again and set yet another benchmark with innovation/design/price

@OvidiuHretcanu4 жыл бұрын
4:39 what is "genuine rubber"?!
@WatchGeek4 жыл бұрын
It is softer than stiff Seiko straps, but harder than overly soft silicone. I had one such strap on an Orient watch and IMO it is THE BEST strap material when it comes to silicone/rubber/plastic. It has the perfect amount of stifness, DOESN'T attract lint, and is very durable (I wore my Orient 7 years almost daily, before I sold it, and the strap was not showing signs of braking)

Yep I have the same watch plus the Protrek Safari Ani-dig. People gush over Gshocks but I'd take a protrek any day. They are much more wearable and use the same "tough" quartz as a ghock. Plus solar! I get reluctant to buy any digital watch if it dosen't have solar nowadays.

Excellent review again - but Probably the only review of yours I partially disagree with - I think it’s over priced but not to the amount and extent you said so - it’s plainly not a 200-300$ watch - it’s obviously in a $500 ish price bracket - the citizen promaster tough is £360 in the U.K. which is probably around -$440 - but lacks the features this has. The Ray Mears version cost more - plus there are many other watches in the 400-500 price bracket which would be comparable (from other brands) - I really like the look of this but it’s far too big.

People are right when complaining about the price. But let´s not forget that it´s made of carbon, which is expensive, it has sapphire, which is expensive and tritium is also not cheap. It costs $12 million to produce 400 grams of tritium. So just think about it when you think about Luminox prices.

On the luminox, I have a watch were the tritium has faded out. F-117A 3400 series yr2012. Watch still goes and holds time fine. The tritium is just awesome. The no charge thing is great. But u have to live with the glow at all time in dark places. If i had the money I would replace the tubes in a heartbeat :). Tritium died in 2021 ish. It was very faint at the end.

I think this watch is SICK, Amazing!!! yeah a bit on the pricey side, but you CAN get a deal on it, i got mine for 550 and the master version also. I Love it!!! i think some people are just so snobby when it comes to watches, watch collecting IS becoming very snobby. I do agree we have to look at the over all VALUE of what you are getting and can you get a better value for the money elsewhere, very true. I like the look Sporting ness of it, the carbon fiber casing ( Light weight and Strong ) , large dials, illuminates in the dark for at least 15 yrs, Sapphire crystal and comes in a nice case : ) yeah the Bear Grylls is kind of weird to me, not a super huge fan of him but i do like his show : ) The survival aspect of the watch is also the most intriguing, i am an outdoor person and love camping. Very useful for survival purposes out in the woods, to each their own!! hope this helps

Mudmaster GWG-1000 , compass, solar, atomic bullet proof , termometer, altimeter sapphire glass cost: 800 dollars retail. Frogman analog or Digital , 800 and 1000 respectively. Diver ISO certified G-shock. with several diver friendly options, Solar, Sapphire, and atomic (one is blue tooth) . Rangerman has built in GPS navigation will take you in and out of trouble step by step. solar ,compass.. cost:800 dollars . these are the best (imo ) g-shocks you can get , anything else obove that is reserved for true G-shock fans. But yes you will get a lot more than this Bear Grylls watch.. I wish g-shock put tritrium lume like in this one ..

What does this offer over a Marathon, G shock, Hamilton field watch or Seiko 5 field watches? Nothing. Its looks nice with the orange band though. But if I want a nice looking field watch I can get a really hice Hamilton for less. What detracts? - As you said Its too expensive for a Quatz compared to a value of features you get from even a 100 buck Gshock or Protrek. Both can also be had with solar and automic time for significantly less. - Marathon has tritium and quality plastic cases but seems to be a better value while being an in use "military" watch. - I think the dial is to busy for a "survival" watch. I didn't even notice the day complication till you pionted it out. - Its a chronometer. There are other complications you could put on a digital survival watch that would be much more usefull like barameter, sunrise/sunset, solar and a led backlight instead of tritium. Heck even temp. Its why digital Gshocks and Protreks are so usufull in a "outdoors" setting. - The compass on the strap seems silly. Many of these other brands have incorporated it into the watch. The compass looks cheap even though I doubt it is.

If you really want to commit to this watch I’d ask to help owners by providing guidance for the chronograph system. I’ll admit that Luminox dropped the ball in its customer service/operations sphere! I’ve spent a couple of hours (I know I’m a dumbass) trying to find out how to properly use the chronograph. It’s not intuitive nor engaging for the average user.
