I Surprised him by having the Omega Chronostop that his Mum & Dad bought him for his 21st birthday serviced and repaired, and I had a new strap made for it with a stainless steel clasp. I was absolute sure that I had him - and when he gave it to him at dinner last night he was just about speechless "Is this *my* watch??" (perfect) BUT then he flipped the Uno card on me. He had a gift for me under the table. It was his Omega Seamaster 40th Anniversary James Bond LE (full box and papers set) that he bought when my Gran died. It was all wrapped because he wanted me to have it, wanted to see me wearing it, didn't just want me to inherit it after he was gone. I was rinsed. I was 1-0 up at half time, but I was defeated. What an evening. So I guess it is a new watch day.

1 million watches a year but 2K ADs around the world. That means each AD gets 500 a year, but that's across all the model lines. Rolex published the production numbers with the Submariner and each AD gets 20 stainless steel a year. Now ask yourself if you think there are more than 20 people who want a stainless steel Submariner. There is no scarcity, it's just absurd demand.

You need 99% of them to have ZERO interest in getting a Rolex before it’s your turn, because if they ALL want one, you’re SOL. But let’s just say only 1% of the 1% want a Rolex this year… POOF! 800,000 watches spoken for. That’s only this year? Are they limited they to one Rolex? Keanu Reeves bought 6 identical Rolexes to gift to his stunt team. Of course he was able to get them, he’s in the 1%. My boss has a 7 figure watch collection and among them he has at least 8 Rolexes by my count. I am currently at three Rolexes over the course of 35 years. @@fj7509 I read somewhere that Tudor accounts for 200k or so of those watches as well. Not sure if it's true. Nonetheless, it isn't that hard to see how global demand exceeds supply when you are looking at 800-1,000,000 watches produced a year for the entire world.

I for one decided to not sell the sub because of milestone importance i attached to it but wear the bb54 more since it is cheaper to maintain probably get fixed if i accidentally break it. So the line of thinking is whether you consider it as a daily or you like the submariner more since they kind of have the same use but one is more expensive and has more brand power.

It has given me the watch buying bug, though I don't see myself spending as much as that for a long while. Maybe a Nomos or a Junghans... Perhaps I am alone, but the arbitrary levels of difficulty to get some watches like Patek and Rolex really just drive me to other brands. I don't really consider the FOIS to be a different size to the Professional, in the same way that the Navitimer has 3 distinctive sizes. The FOIS has the same bezel diameter as the Professional, the only difference is the Professional has the guard around the crown and pushes. The FOIS is also thicker and has a longer lug-to-lug, so not sure it'll wear much differently to a Professional.

But I cannot abide the conduct of the AD's or the service center costs, I will never shop there, I will never set foot on their premises, they will not work on my watches. I will not directly give them my money. Let's say you're a flipper, you've done the ground work, you've built the AD relationship and you're in a position to buy the watch at MSRP, along with whatever else you have to do/buy to keep the AD sweet. You then flip it to me. Fine, you make (say) £5k for your trouble (you've built the AD relationship, you've done the work, that's worth something, everyone is allowed to make a living). That watch is now mine, 100% mine and I personally see zero value in maintaining that AD/service centre relationship. My watchsmith can have my money and to hell with the warranty.

Best Watch under $5K? Frankly, there is no "best watch." There are many good and great watches so one can pick what one likes! For me, lacking the Omega option and keeping it under $5K, I would easily opt for the Tissot Telemeter 1938 (no, I was NOT born in 1938) T142.462.16.032.00, Silver Dial. (I can easily carry off a 42x13.9mm watch.) In fact, the entire 1938 series is underrated and deserves more attention. And I already have 5 Tissot watches ranging from a modest quartz dress watch to a Chemin des Tourelles Chronograph in rose gold PVD with an aftermarket alligator strap. It was $1200 and the first automatic watch I bought since buying a Seiko in 1979. I really love this watch and would easily buy another Tissot. [Full Disclosure: I also own an Omega Constellation 41, Blue with aftermarket alligator strap (dark blue.)] Great video! Loved it so much I watched it twice! (so far)
