great video Britt .... I am wearing my 16750 which I have owned and worn basically 24/7 since 1982. It was my dream watch when I was younger in the early days of 1675 - and still is today my all time favourite watch. It's on my wrist right now and it looks almost like the day I got it. All original, serviced regularly, the only change being the acrylic (crystal). I thoroughly enjoyed your video - from Montreal.

@@BrittPearceWatches this might sound silly, but here’s why I loved the faded patina bezels (they remind me of old soda cans when they get old and fade. That off blue and pink. You just can’t get that in a fresh watch and there is literally no chance you will find this happening to modern Rolex watches anymore. It’s the anthesis of what they are trying to achieve. Meanwhile, personally I love a rich patina and a tropical dial. Here’s hoping we see that in Tudor watches :)
@jamesb3557 Жыл бұрын
Love the aluminum bezel. A faded bezel and little patina is a thing of beauty. It’s earned. I know people may dig the new ceramic but I feel like it’s just so glossy and won’t change. Now that being said, I do like the weight and refinements of newer Rolex. But I’d go for the 16750 (would love to wear and spend some time with the 1675 as well)

I appreciate the robustness of ceramic but I don't really like the shine - I don't want my watches to draw unwanted attention. I like the almost "rough" and "dull" tones of the aluminium/steel bezels on my Seiko 62mas and slim turtle. Maybe in the future there can be a bit more muted/matte coloration method for ceramic :)

I couldn’t agree more!!! I feel exactly the same about aluminium! That’s why I keep choosing modern tudor over Rolex! 😱

@@BrittPearceWatches that’s exactly why I’m going tudor BB58, (I am betting it will age / patina up nicely and will become a collectors watch in years to come, not that I’m going for that reason but it feels like it will age up nicely). Great clip Britt, I went through months of debating 1675/16750 vs 16710. I landed on 16710 simply down to the troubles of vintage dials which are a nightmare to validate are all authentic. I’d recommend 16710T, no holes case and comes with a solid end link bracelet, no rattle.
@inCanada558 ай бұрын
It's that rattle on the 16750 and predecessors that give them their charm!

It was an absolute honour to see these watches filmed in such amazing quality! And I agree with everything you say about getting things at retail. It CAN be done and you don’t have to buy a single thing you don’t want to. I didn’t!
@Cull_Obsidian Жыл бұрын
If you can find a 16750 with the original matte dial BUY IT. I honestly believe it’s one of the last overlooked areas of Rolex vintage professional models. The only way you can tell the difference is the hand stack (GMT hand above the hour and vice versa). Way cheaper than a 1675 and better in almost every respect. Rolex used up their remaining 1675 dials until about 1983, with the vast vast majority being replaced upon service. In fact I’ve only seen half a dozen or so on Chrono24 at any one time. You do see them in the hyper-inflated “buy your birth year” watch places, but to find one that mint like in the video may be rare. Don’t ever pass on it! I’ve never seen another one

The 16710 is the best of the lot. Own four of them and worn them all as a long haul pilot. They are now retired and I wear the ceramic LN. In a nutshell, the modern ceramic is a more robust watch than the older 5 digits it replaces, but theres no denying that it’s lost those classic proportions and a lot of its charm along the way. If I had to chose between my 5 or 6 digit versions and could only keep one, it would be the 16710 5 digit hands down. Probably the best watch ever made.

Great video Britt. Love your energy, your humour, and your knowledge; and you're seriously dreamy to look at (and listen to)! Wishing you continued success in your recovery. I own the transitional 16750, circa 1981 per 6.6M serial, with all-original components, including the fading-to-fuscia bezel, matte dial with patinaed lume plots and matching patinaed hand inserts, original dial and hands, and even the original F-code (1981) GMT-Jubilee 62510H/50/550 bracelet. Even the original box and booklet. Took some time to find this complete set, and to justifying the high cost as a wearable 'investment'. Recently overhauled by a Rolex AD, with specific instructions to leave all visible parts (dial, hands) original except for the acrylic crystal which could be changed. They complied with these instructions. I do like the look of the modern ceramic GMT-Master, but I'm not sure I'd wear one (assuming I could find a new one at all here in Canada, or pre-loved one for which crazy money isn't being asked) as I prefer the slimmer and lighter dimensions of the 16750, as well as the vintage look and feel (rattly bracelet and all). I also find the 16750 more of a tool watch and much less blingy than its modern ceramic cousin. Apart from scratches and other external signs of time-honoured wear, how would a ceramic bezel with modern Chromalight dial actually AGE? Would its anti-aging features make it less valuable, rather than more valuable (like a 25-year old 16750), assuming future value is something that's important to you? Britt, once again, great video!

As an international air line pilot (and hater of smartwatches), the GMT is my favorite complication. The Rolex GMT is a classic with perfect proportions and it is worn by many pilots at my air line. I definitely prefer the look of the aluminum bezel although the scratch resistance of the ceramic is a more practical choice. I personally wear a Ball Roadmaster Pilot GMT during my trips. It is perfect for me as I prefer the lighter titanium. It also has very bright tritium lume that make it easy to read at night as well as a quick-change hour mechanism. One real drawback of the Rolex is that it has become the most sought-after watch by thieves. I usually wear a Casioak G-Shock when I go to crowded places during my layovers.

In a pinch, the GMT Master II and earlier models could be convertible as currency, so to speak, in times of duress and we're easier to carry than cash or gold.

Black bezel and the ceramic works great, but the ceramic in color just can’t match the beauty of the aluminum bezel GMT. And after trading the old for the maxi case, wish I hadn’t…

16710: Afaik the calibre used is the 3185 (or for the very late versions the 3186). Never cal. 3135.

I like prefer the previous version of the bluesy. I like the gold lettering. I’d love a bluesy video!

I felt the same way after trying them on. I went with the 16700 all black with jubilee

GMT (1960s only) is on my target list too. Any GMT before or after is a no go.

Why choose between them and not have both a ceramic and a vintage? I love the more shiny look of the older watches but the ceramic bezel is cool too. Maybe buy the new one as an investment and keep the old as a daily driver.

This is one my most important horological dilemmas as well. I don't you could have summed it up any better. I agree with your conclusion. Great video!

Prefer the ceramic GMT Master II on jubilee. It would be perfect if they could get the bezel color more in line with the aluminum bezel however but not a deal breaker.

Gah! Honestly! The modern GMT is so 🔥 I do agree on the colour! Far more subdued!

a 16710 from the late 2000s brings the best of two worlds: a neo vintage feel in a case that you can wear carelessly...(different story with the sub, there I would definitely go 4 digit)

getting GMT is not impossible .. its needs a good relationship where they know that you are not a flipper .. or a good history with the store... luckily managed to get the pepsi / batman and sprite lately
