My husband has a HMT Janata watch bought in 1965 when he was in 9th std. Fortunately he retired as Director of HMT. Still he uses that watch proudly. He also got HMT Swarna when completed 25 yrs in HMt. Both the watches r really beutiful nd prsisworthy. Me nd my husband still use HMT watches. We r proud to be Indian. My husband has passed engineering from KHARAGPUR IIT buy still he has served for HMT unlike todays IITIANS he did not leave his country for abroad

No doubt, HMT watch legacy can never die. I am proud owner of a 1985 watch, HMT chinar, same body as janata only the dial design is with vertical lines. My first watch gifted by my grandfather, in working condition as on date.

Recently i was searching some papers and stumbled upon a HMT JANATA watch which belongs to my maternal grandfather. I have seen him winding that watch in mornings with black nato strap. Luckily i wind it up and the watch was working perfectly 🎉. Now, i wear this watch after winding it in the mornings same way my grandfather used to wear with new black nato strap. I love HMT designs, unfortunately 2 watches I ordered turned out bad. Main disappointment was not sending them to Bangalore, it was those issues repeat in a few months. Please buy a used HMT from a local watchmaker, they last longer and are cheap to buy and maintain.

turn the crown in clockwise direction until it keeps changing date for 3-4 times, sometimes these rajats are of older automatic movements and a forced winding may kick start it, also the more you wear the watch the more fluid it will be so try wearing it for a week even if doenst show time and then check after a week if there is improvement
