Great choices! When do we get "Hook", btw? Been waiting since HTTYD. Theres a bit of a basis for "Bugs Life"from "Seven Samurai", an amazing black and white movie, which is about a village hiring the titular samurai in exchange for food to defend their town from an army of bandits. "Seven Samurai"inspired so many other films, including "The Magnificent Seven"(Akira Kurosawa, the director, successfully sued the director of "Magnificent Seven" for stealing it)and more. "SS"is more drama and less comedy though!(definitely recommend!)

Originally they gave it up because they felt like they had run most of the gags they could, and if they kept going then it would be getting repetitive. I think that was a decent call on their part. But I think enough time has passed that there could be all new gags to be had if they chose to. 😆

Honestly, this movie was a big deal to me as kid. I honestly got bullied a lot as a kid for having glasses, being a girl, having autism, all kind of things. But after watching this movie, I realized that I can stand up to my bullies. And after I finally stood up to one of my worst bullies, I realized that a lot of the time, bullies are all bark no bite, and words can’t even describe how strong I felt. So yeah, I love this movie and I love this reaction.

Something cool about the little green bug the Queen is carrying around, its called an aphid. And in real life ants will kind of farm aphids to "milk" them for their sweet nutrients, in return the aphids are protected by the ants from bigger bugs that eat aphids. So they have this symbiotic relationship.

Ants are extremely social animals, and rely on their antenna to sense out the pheromone trail left by other ants to know where to go. Bug’s Life Facts: 1. The box the P.T. Has the circus travel in is Casey Jr Cookies which is the name of the circus train in Dumbo, 2. The whole film is technically a new version of the Magnificent Seven where seven people come together to help an oppressed village that is always attacked for their food by a gang for protect from others and Magnificent Seven is in turn a remake of the Japanese film Seven Samuari and the grasshoppers are supposed to be like a motorcycle gang in this, 3. The film also is a take on the story of the Grasshopper and the Ants where the ants would do all the work and the Grasshopper didn’t help at all, 4. When Jeffrey Katzenberg left Disney to start his own studio which would be Dreamworks he took the bug idea with him and made the copy film Antz, 5. Some of the voices in the film include one of Pixar’s story men Joe Ranft as Heimleich and Lenny the binoculars in Toy Story and Wheezy in Toy Story 2, Kevin Spacey is Hopper, while Hopper’s brother Molt is Richard Kind who was Bing Bong in Inside Out among several other Pixar films, Madeline Kahn in one of her last roles is the moth Gypsy, Brad Garrett who people know better as Ray’s brother in Everybody Loves Raymond is Dim, and in one of his last roles is Roddy McDowall as Mr Soil, Edie Mclurg who is Flora in this people also know from Little Mermaid as Carlotta, the lead voice of the blueberry scout ants is Ashley Tisdale and the voice of Dot is the voice of Kairi in the Kingdom Hearts games Hayden Panitierre, 6. So Randy Newman did the music for this film. He also did the music for the Pixar films of all the Toy Story movies, the first and third Cars films, and the Monsters Inc films, 7. The made up bloopers during the credits was the first time an animated films had mock bloopers in it. The next two films from Pixar would follow this that being Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc, The last thing I want to share is this was the first film I ever saw in theaters. Only my mom and I went to see it. The film was released in November 1998 and my birthday is December 23rd so I was only three when I saw it and some standout moments I remember were: 1) The crowd laughing at the short Geri’s Game, 2) Laughing at Hopper’s death, 3) Heimlich emerging with the tiny wings, and 4) the made up bloopers during the credits. Even though this film has two cliches I can’t stand one being the liar revealed and the third act moping scene. I think it is because this is the first film I saw in theaters that it doesn’t bother me as much as in other films. One thing though is I went to Disney World in 2003 at the age of 8 and we went to Animal Kingdom and inside the tree is a 3d attraction called it’s tough to be a bug and I didn’t know what to expect and was freaking out screaming and my mom took me out and calmed me down,

This whole film is based around something known as a parasitic relationship. You see, there are two types of relationships in the animal kingdom: Symbiosis and Parasitism. A parasitic relationship is one in which one organism, the parasite, lives off of another organism. Before you correct any mistake in this film it's an actual thing with Ants and Grasshoppers where they're supplied with food and apply protection. *It's quite fascinating*
@xwinwinwinx

Symbiosis refers to a close and long term biological interaction (relationship) between 2 different biological organisms. There are 3 kinds: commenalism, mutualism and parasitism. 1. Commenalism is where one organism benefits from another but the second organism isn't harmed or benefited in return. 2. Mutualistic symbiosis is where both organisms benefit from a relationship. 3. Parasitim is where one organism benefits but the second is harmed by the relationship.

Ostensibly, this is a Pixar retelling of the story of the Ants and the Grasshopper. The Grasshopper is essentially doing nothing to prepare for a harsh winter, the ants spend all year preparing. When winter comes, the ants are fine, the grasshopper starved to death. Not the best Pixar film, I think the theme is a little overly simplistic, and it relies on way too many cliches that were big during the 90s and early 00s, but it’s still visually impressive.

This movie is so underrated. Glad it's been making the rounds in the reaction community! So happy you enjoyed it. And the bloopers at the end are something that almost all the old Pixar movies have! Toy story has them too and they're so funny. I think one of my favorite scenes is when Hopper is making an example out of two of his men. When he's throwing pieces of grain at them and then just rips the cork out and buries them alive with zero expression on his face. It's such a good scene and really drives his point home. Honestly, watching it as adult, he reminds me of Negan from the walking dead. (obviously a more tame version of course hahaha) When I was a kid I had a big figure of Flik that doubled as a bedroom alarm. It had a motion sensor in it and if someone walked in front of it he would go "Stop! You have entered a restricted ant hill! Intruder alert, intruder alert!" I loved that thing. Still have it somewhere.

By away, have you seen DreamWorks' Antz (1998) before? It's similar to Pixar's A Bug's Life (1998). It released on the same year along with A Bug's Life. It's not a rip-off movie. I like when movies has similarities. I love both of Antz and A Bug's Life. Just saying though.

One of my favorite Pixar movies! Me and my parents went to Disney World a few years back--maybe 2016--and visited Animal Kingdom for the first time, and Flik was the first character I saw, AND got a picture with him. It was awesome, and he's my favorite character. 😍😍😍💚💚💚

One of my fave animated movies! I think it’s definitely meant for an older crowd. So many of the jokes and why they were funny went over my head as a kid. Love it even more as an adult than as a child.

You know what I just realized, the trailer you see them pan to at 15:54 mark is the same trailer from Monsters INC. You remember the scene where the lady mistook Randall for a gator, right? SAME TRAILER! I was like "Wait, why does the trailer seem familiar?" and then it clicked when I remembered that Pixar loves doing Easter eggs referencing previous movies.

Love that you enjoyed this, A Bug’s Life is a great movie! And I agree with some of the other comments that Hopper is definitely one of the most menacing villains out there. It’s too bad we never got a sequel.

I rewatched A Bug’s Life almost a couple years ago. Man, I will say that I enjoyed it more as an adult than as a kid. Quite honestly, I like how Flik, and Atta seem to have a lot more in common than they might realize, the characters are likable, and how this film teaches us to stand up for what’s right in the end, you know? I’m actually glad that there isn’t a sequel for this film. Anyway, great reaction yet again!

I'm glad you liked this one, it's such a classic now, and I love the bloopers, it's so funny to see Hopper act out of character when you only see him as just evil before and in the bloopers he becomes a totally different character like he's an actual actor grasshopper.

The reason why it looked sudden Flick so easily convincing the troup is that they saw the three flies approaching even after the chaos of the rolling tin can. So in panic said "sure we go along" and flew off as quickly as possible with him. Flick mistaking their enthusiasm and you too lol.

Hopper's eyes have different colors because he's one eyed (that's his name in the french version) maybe befzyse of the thing with the bird his brother mentionned. If you didn't get it, the Queen, the princes and the princesses are the only ants who have wings and not the workers ants. Also, in real life, the Queen is the mother of all the ants of the colony.

They didn't want Flik to find anyone for help because they wanted time to gather more food for the grasshoppers so he wouldn't screw it up. "You see, with Flik gone he can't..." "He can't mess anything up!" Also, have you never blown a dandelion before? And the reason the "warrior bugs" left do quickly is because the other flies rose up and were looking for them. Also, that one kid ant doing the play didn’t wanna do it. 😂

Anyone else thinks that "A Bug's Life" is a dark sequel to the fable 'The Ants and the Grasshopper'? As in instead of learning his lesson about not being lazy & gathering food before Winter comes, the grasshopper takes advantage of the ants' hospitality & eventually took over the colony with his fellow kin (after telling them that the ants are gullible pushovers).
