A few things about this film: James Woods, who played Hades, apparently heard everyone else making big scary voices when they auditioned and so he scrapped his original idea for the audition and went with a "used car salesman" vibe. Hades in Greek Mythology was actually one of the nicer gods. He was pretty laid back. Zeus on the other hand, is awful. The music in this film is arguably some of the best in the classic era films, focusing on the muses as the chorus (which was a greek trademark for drama, called the 'ensemble'). Hercules (or Heracles in the greek mythos) was the son of Zeus and a mortal woman, and so Hera absolutely hated him and tried to kill him all the time. Naturally they couldn't put that in the kids film. Scar's pelt was a reference to the Nemian Lion, which was one of the labors that Hercules had to do. He wore the lion's pelt as a cape thereafter.

We all know that Hercules still holds a special place in our own hearts and minds. The characters are iconic, the songs are iconic, and even the whole plot is iconic itself. Nick, just in case you didn't know this fun fact: the reason Meg has such a perfect singing voice is that she was voiced by Susan Egan, who was also the original Belle on Broadway when Beauty and the Beast opened in the 1990s. Not the voice of belle in the movie (that was Paige O'Hara) but the original Broadway Belle. So Susan has been two Disney leading ladies, and two of my top 4 favorites at that! Also, just a couple months ago the book int he "Twisted Tales" series by Disney to do with Hercules came out, called "Go the Distance." Look up the Twisted Tales series if you haven't, it seems very good. Anyway, I haven't read the Meg one yet but I fully intend to soon and it gives a lot to Meg's backstory and she's the main character of the book. All mythical creatures in Hercules. 2:40, 1.Pegasus. 17:25, 2. Centaur. 23:08, 3. Hydra. You cut off one head three more grow back. And the three headed dog was Cerberus.

Plus the Minotaur, Medusa and Harpies during 'Zero to Hero' (not that Hercules dealt with any of those in the actual mythology but we'll let that slide).

Meg is voiced by Susan Egan, who originated the role of Belle in the original Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast. She was awesome in it.

If I remember correctly, the woman who voiced Megara played Belle on Broadway

Congrats on discovering one of Disney’s more underappreciated movies. It’s one of my favorites. BTW, you’ll hear Meg’s voice actress, Susan Egan, again in Spirited Away, which is so good it instantly tied Lion King as my favorite movie ever after I watched it the first time.

I remember funniest part as a kid was near the end when Hercules is fighting the titans and Hades gets covered in lava and ice "follow the fingers! Him! 🥶 The yuts with the horse!"

I loved Greek Mythology growing up but surprisingly I didn't see this movie often. But it is good to see this and see that you enjoyed it! You being in awe in the animation, getting emotional, loving the songs, and loving the movie as a whole has made it another great reaction!

If the Muses weren't in this movie, I wouldn't love it half as much, the songs are so great!

Hades is HILARIOUS! Oh, if you haven't seen it, definitely watch The Emperor's New Groove. The villain, Yzma, she's like Hades. Crazy funny.

My turn for the fun fact: When Beauty and the Beast was adapted into a stage musical on Broadway, Meg's actress-- Susan Egan-- originated the role of Belle. So she played two Disney gals

Fun fact : the artist they took in for "outside inspiration", Gerald Scarfe, actually stayed and worked along the animators through the entire film and his designs for Cerberus and the hydra remained almost entirely unchanged. If you want more of his art, I reccomend Pink Floyd's The Wall, in which he did all the art directing and designing for animated segments :) 💕

Hades gets such a bad rap in modern society, when I actually admire him the most out of all the Greek gods. He was the most honest, hardworking, and fair of all of them. But because he's "God of the Underworld" every modern representation makes him the equivalent of the devil.

Hercules has probably some of the BEST original music that Disney has made so far. It still holds up to this day. This is also probably the second funniest Disney movie after "The Emperor's New Groove" that shit was hilarious. "Whoa is my hair out?"

I Can Go The Distance is one of my favorite Disney songs for sure! Even tho the movie isn't exactly accurate as far as the greek mythology goes, I still really enjoy it. I was surprised at how little you knew about it as well, like the fact Pegasus is a pegasus lol, but oddly enough it doesn't bother me at all! It's actually kind of charming. It's always fun to watch your reactions and see you enjoy the show and learn some new things.
