Bruce has been with these guys in some fashion since the early 1970s. Bass player Garry Tallent is the longest tenured member of the E Street Band, playing with Bruce since 1972. Piano player Roy Bittan, and drummer Max Weinberg have been in the band since 1974. Guitar player Steven Van Zandt has been a member of the band since 1975 (although he left the band in 1983, before rejoining with the 1999 reunion), but has known and played with Bruce in various bands since 1965. Nils Lofgren and Patty Scialfa (Bruce's wife) are the two newest members of the band, having both joined in 1984. Although not an official member of the band, since 1990, the musician who has played with Bruce more than anyone is violin and guitar player Soozie Tyrell. Soozie has accompanied Springsteen when he has toured with the E Street Band as well as when he has done tours without the E Street band. So yeah, they have been playing together for a long time. Also, one of the cool things he has done, and part of why these band members are so loyal to him, is that everyone in the band, including him, gets an equal cut of the tour payout. He does not pay himself more than the rest of the band.

How can you talk about the E Street Band and not mention The Big Man Clarence Clemons (z”l). Watching the interplay between Bruce and Clarence was always one of my favorite parts of any concert. Jake has stepped in to his uncle’s shoes and plays beautifully, but I miss the chemistry that there was with Clarence.

@@eschneir - Of course Clarence was amazing. I meant no disrespect to him. I was merely commenting on the band members Bruce is playing with to this day. Sadly, both Clarence and Danny have left us, so obviously they are not currently playing with Bruce.

Now you know 2 years later that the sax player was the great Clarence Clemons who had been with Bruce from the very beginning. He was a legend. I'm sure you know that by now.

Springsteen has so many laurels to rest on as a live performer, it's surprising he doesn't just come out sit on a stool and play the hits. yet I watched him last Sunday give the most powerful performance I have ever seen. he played he had something to prove and his energy level was off the charts. The stage is his natural environment and he always seems to enjoy it just as much as the audience. I think his 'trick' is that he gives a show for us and him.

Springsteen's best song and live performance IMO is 'Jungleland (live in New York City 2000)', from the Reunion Tour. An absolute masterpiece. It really is the band at its peak, with an incredible sax solo from Clarence Clemons.

Good move to watch live Springsteen, the stage is his proper format. To truly understand The Boss & the power of the E Street Band, the 1975 _Hammersmith Odeon, London_ show is essential viewing. The turning point, Bruce had everything to prove that night - and the result is better than any of his studio albums.

While it is always fun to watch/listen to the Boss, the real delight this time is watching your reaction - the subtle changes in your expression show your appreciation. Your commentary is also spot on, but your face speaks volumes.

Ya ..same EStreet Band ...forever .. at his concerts in the 70s and 80s they'd play for at least 3 hrs with no breaks . He told hisaudience at the start of the concerts that they knew how hard the people worked to earn enough to buy a concert ticket( 20 bucks then) and that the band would give it their all with no breaks .. if you get a chance to review Blinded by the light... you'll enjoy

Born to Run and Dancing in the Dark typically are closer to the end of the show...so some time after the 3hr mark. Same Band since 75. We'll more or less. Some members have been added and sadly a couple have passed. One member, Little Steven Van Zandt left briefly and came back.

You definitely have an ear young man and you really got it. And I only call you young man because I'm over 60 years old and have been listening to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band since I was 17. So, thank you very much for your honest critique and your ability to "get" it. You can just see it in your eyes and and smile when you watch Bruce and the boys. All of us fans react this way and feel sorry for those who miss this. Anyways, you really owe it to yourself to watch Jungleland live in New York City 2001. It has Clarence Clemons 3 minute sax solo which is the most iconic sax playing in music history. Guaranteed to give you goosebumps. Sadly, he has since passed. And then you must, must, must watch Badlands from the same concert and you will be officially baptized. Thanks again man. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooiUg3SPjthriKs
