“Jungleland” is his best song, and “Atlantic City” is his most powerful.

@@samuellord8576 absolutely agree, what a great song. Generally reaction to studio versions is best, but this song should be listened to live from his "Live from New York" album. It just captures everything that makes this a great song. Still gives chills every time I hear Clarence's sax, "Tonight...in...Jungleland."

Listening to newbies trying to talk about the deep meaning of Bruce is like watching two blind kids talk about Picasso. “Born to Run” is an anthem for wanting to escape the weight and pressure of life. The signature line, 'Tramps like us, baby, we were born to run!' conjures an image of the rebel with the wind at their back, the promise of freedom on the horizon. For those who work long, hard days in factories-the need to feel the thrill of yonder resonates deeply.

many of his songs are thought of as "patriotic" but they are much deeper than that. Blue collar, New Jersey through and through.

Where to start? "Rosalita", "Dancing In the Dark", "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out", "Glory Days," "The River", "The Ghost of Tom Joad," "41 Shots," "The Rising," "Streets of Philadelphia," "Jungleland," "Badlands," "Thunder Road," ... Bruce has been making records since the 70s up until just last year. You have a huge rabbit hole to discover. :)

All great songs. While I feel most reactions should be from studio versions, I would say one exception is definitely Jungleland. While there is no video of the specific performance, the Live at New York City album (2001) is hands down the best, and captures the essence of Bruce and the E Street Band. Not only one of the best live performances by the band, one of the best live performances ever recorded. Holy cow! I did just find a KZbin version of Live from NY: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooiUg3SPjthriKs Just epic!

This video is from 2002. He is more popular and appreciated outside the US (as people in the US do not appreciate his politics) these days. Huge in Europe. The E Street Band has been his band since 1971-72 although a couple of them have played with him since 1969. He joined his first band aged 16. He was known as an excellent guitarist and was always the lead guitarist. These days he takes the lead on certain songs, while Steve or Nils will lead on others. A shared workload. He writes all his own songs and has over 20 studio albums selling over 150 million copies worldwide. He has 20 grammys, 1 Oscar, 2 Golden Globes and 1 Tony award for his Broadway show. Has been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rock snd Roll Songwriters Hall of Fame, voted best live act on numerous occasions among other awards. Currently 74 years old and just started a world tour five days ago. His shows have trimmed down slighly and now go for three hours. His longest show was just over four hours! First time I saw Bruce and the E Street Band, 1974 in Detroit, nearly a 4 hour set!! Last time I saw the boys, last year in Detroit, another 3 plus hour show, and consider the band is in their 70's!! Will be seeing the gang again, twice in Toronto this upcoming November. That'll put me over 40 shows and I wish I could do 40 more. You have to understand the power and majesty of Springsteen show, the communion with 30,000 of your new best friends. His music has been part of my life for nearly 50 years and has helped me through the good and the bad. The E Street band is legendary, and at some point, sit back with a lyric sheet and a live performance of Jungleland with Clarence on the sax and you will understand what it is all about.

After this song, probably his most best known was Born in the USA. I liked a tune called Adam raised a Cain. Springsteen along with M.Jackson & Prince were the biggest "male" stars of the 80's. His lead guitar was a regular on The Saprano's TV show. The Drummer was like a Co-host on Conan O'Brien. Oh, yeah. Bruce has become very good friends with Barack Obama.

Bruce started out with a band called Steel Mill when he was young and in that band he played more guitar-centric music and soloed much more, but little by little the band grew and evolved into the E Street Band and he became a band leader and rhythm guitarist to showcase his songwriting better. Though he doesn't usually do guitar solos and when he does they tend to be on the simpler side, he's a much better guitarist than most people realize.

@@IUBOSSFAN It's not about how amazing the live version is or isn't. It's about perspective. How can you enjoy that amazing version to its fullest if you don't know the source material? I feel the exact same way about reactors doing covers. By all means, react to Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven or Disturbed's Sound of Silence. But how can you have a full appreciation for how good they actually are until you've heard and reacted to the original? Short answer: you can't. I'll die on this hill.

The information you might receive from seeing a live version _can_ exceed that of a studio version, but I agree it’s most often the reverse. But some live recordings are simply better, like Dire Straits’ Alchemy concert and of course most Grateful Dead songs. Bruce’s magnum opus is certainly Jungleland, but Atlantic City moves me deeply.

He wasn't hell of American in fact Born in the USA is more of a condemnation of America but you get 'he's hell of American' when people make assumptions of artists based on nothing but a song title rather than lyrics content maybe reacting to music isn't for the two of you.

The "live" version off of 75-85 is a compilation from the BITUSA tour and not a single performance. Everyone reacts to that, and it's fine, but anything from this Barcelona show that was broadcast live all over Europe on MTV-Europe gives a good idea of what it's like to see Bruce live. in most cases Bruce and ESB live is superior to the (still great) studio versions.
