This was the version of the story I grew up with and seeing it again brought back so many memories! Also yes, that is in fact Steve Buscemi voicing Tempelton. One thing I admire is that they go out of their way to give Charlotte the credit she deserves. Even if the focus is on Wilbur, it's nice to see characters saying how amazing it is that a spider even did that to begin with!

Please don’t apologize for the absence, Nick - being a great friend is more important! 💖 And thank you so much for doing this version as well! I certainly grew up with the animated version but I love the stuff this one pulls off so much more. As a character artist and a naturalist, Charlotte is such an accomplishment. They didn’t cartoonize her, but made her still very appealing regardless. Not to mention that you nailed it, Templeton is voiced by Steve Buscemi, who we heard voice Randall in the Monsters Inc. movies. PERFECT casting tbh. 😂

It's really nice to see more people show this version the respect it deserves. As much as I have a soft spot for the animated film, this is one of those rare times where I can kinda see why the author of the book hated it so much. At least this respects the source material so much more.

I actually prefer this adaptation to Charlotte’s Web than the animated film(even thought that one is good). It has a familiar charm, similar to Babe, which I very much appreciate, including a bigger cast. The emotion of this film gets me every time, which is another factor I like as well. So glad you covered this version of Charlotte’s Web, Nick, and thank you!

The animated one will always have a special place in my heart because that's what I grew up on, but I really do love this movie. I think this was the first movie that made me cry for a character too. Both my mom and I watched this movie in theaters and we both cried! I had a book ( i might still have it. It's at my aunts house I haven't seen or been to in two years) about this movie with all sorts of interesting facts about the characters and facts about farm animals, and there was a page that was almost like a sequel. It had a picture of two grandparents, Fern and her husband, Henry Fussy, who still wears his hat, and their granddaughter. The page says many years later, Fern tells her granddaughter the story of her beloved Wilbur and Charlotte's web and the miracle it brings.

I grew up with this movie and have always favored it over the original. I don't hate or even dislike the original. The remake just feels more emotional and not as cheesy with the line delivery. And Charlotte's death scene...my God her death scene makes me cry every time. Hearing a little kid beg for his best friend to come down so he can take her home and the feeling of defeat and sorrow when he realized he had to leave her behind. Then when he got home and everyone just silently bows their heads to mourn her. It is such a beautiful and sad movie

The biggest problem I have with the animated version is the voice acting for Wilbur. In the original book he starts as a baby pig and grows up throughout the series, but in the animated movie he sounds like a fullgrown adult. So every time he throws a tantrum about not wanting to die it feels less endearing as a child truly being afraid of death and more like a whiny manchild who won't grow up.

If you say "that is some pig!" it's an exclamation that means "that's an awesome/amazing pig". It's like the exclamation "now that's something!" it shows you're impressed. So basically, "some pig" means "an impressive pig".

Charlotte's Web was one of the first chapter books I ever read on my own (in the early 90s) and I remember asking my mom what "some pig" meant. So, I understand how you feel about it. Lol Though, I am happy the movie kept what the book originally had. I also feel the same way you do about Wilbur's voice. Even though I LOVE the original movie, since I grew up with it, I much prefer this voice actor of Wilburs...and who doesn't love Dakota Fanning?!? A great, fun, genuine reaction, Nick!

I love that Wilbur and Charlotte share a common theme in their friendship. Wilbur wasn't wanted because he was a runt, but Fern saw his true worth, and fought to save him. Charlotte wasn't wanted in the barn, because the other animals think she is ugly and creepy, But even from their first meeting, Wilbur thinks Charlotte is beautiful, because her kind voice reached out to him in the night and she comforted him and promised to chat and he still wants to chat with her, even when the other animals despise Charlotte and call her names. Wilbur sees her real beauty shining out from her heart and he returned it and helped the other animals to see Charlotte's worth, as well.

Yay! Nick is back! I agree, I do like both movies but I gravitate more to the live action/CGI one. It seems more innocent and more emotional which perfectly captures what childhood feels like- especially in small rural and suburban places like the one the story takes place in. Also I hate insects, and my arachnophobia (fear of spiders) does not help with that, especially in this movie since everything is made to look more realistic so you think I would like the animated one more because it doesn’t really activate my fear. I honestly think it’s because of the voice actress that I connected with Charlotte so much more in this one- plus it’s the actress who made me forget I was looking at a very real spider. I’m positive if it wasn’t for her, I’d be like that horse and look away everytime Charlotte came on screen. I definitely understand where Nick is coming from in that sense.

@@lydiaquinn510 I didn’t think Charlotte was that bad in regards to her animation cause this is a movie meant for kids, so they wouldn’t make her too scary or real like the spiders in Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. I just looked it up now and I’m pretty shocked Julia Roberts is Charlotte but she did amazing. I honestly credit the voice actress for not making me disgusted with Charlotte even with my fear. The babies though when they came on screen…that’s a different story.
