Something interesting about when Ron gets poisoned is that Snape actually taught Harry what to do. In the very first movie when he’s being a jerk and thinking Harry isn’t paying attention (while he’s writing notes), he quizzes him. One of his questions was where would you find a bezoar? Snape explains (after embarrassing Harry) that you find it in the belly of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. Harry is looking for a bezoar while Slughorn panics, and uses it to save Ron. Really shows who the real potion master is in Harry’s life and is a little call back that might alert you to who the half blood prince might be.

Tom Felton (Draco) was amazing in this film. I remember being so impressed with his performance that I went from not caring about Draco to feeling as bad for him as I did for Harry. The scene where he cries over the dead bird has so much raw emotion to it even though it's relatively short, and it does a great job of showing the audience that for all his talk, Draco was a just a boy being pressured into becoming a murderer. What makes the situation even more terrible is that Voldemort was using Draco as a means of punishing Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy (primarily Lucius) for not being loyal enough before his return. Even though they were Death Eaters, the idea of their son, a teenager, being forced to kill Dumbledore or die if he failed was horrendous, especially to Narcissa, who always had a soft spot for him. Her maternal instincts are very important for the next two films so without spoiling anything I'd suggest paying close attention to that
@Thaleya110 ай бұрын
yeah the amount of pressure, a teenage boy being sent to kill the greatest wizard of their time. (it's actually like mirroring 2 others in the series in a way)
@floresefogo10 ай бұрын
Totally agree!! And if you really think about it, Voldemort gave Draco a suicide mission by ordering him to kill Dumbledore! Dumbledore was the one wizard Voldemort feared and he ordered a teenage boy to murder the most powerful wizard of all time or else he himself would be killed? Suicide mission for sure! Just because Lucius f’ed up with the prophecy mission..

@KKowalski102210 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure Voldy was holding Narcissa’s life over Draco’s head as well.
@strksapp4 ай бұрын
And then pair that with the fact of him not telling the Malfoys that even if Draco indeed succeeded, he'd be killed either way because he needed to be the wielder of the elder wand. Voldemort did that on purpose, another means to punish Lucius. He just didn't expect Severus to be the one to do it. Just cruel.
@vanessapaternina887010 ай бұрын
One thing that pisses me off about this movie is they skip the whole Lucius plot, which is important to understand why Voldemort gives Draco that mission of killing Dumbledore. Voldemort was mad because of the mess Lucius made at the ministry, the one thing he had to do was get the prophecy and get out, instead, he lost the prophecy and got himself locked up in Azkaban, which is why Draco had to step up.

Something to keep in mind about Ron, a lot of his 'moments' were given to Hermione. For example in the 3rd movie, when Sirius dragged Ron into the shack, hes the one who stood in front of Harry (with a broken leg) and said 'If you want to kill Harry youll have to kill us too', he wasnt just cowering in the corner the whole time
@brt527310 ай бұрын
Yeah Ron was better in the books. They focused more on building Hermione's "strong woman" image. Nothing wrong with that, she IS badazz, but I don't think they needed to completely buffoon Ron in the process.

And they didn't just ruin Ron for this, they ruined Ginny and also changed Harry's entire personality to make him more dependent on her knowledge. @BigDaddyshir10 ай бұрын
It wasn't really because he was trying to prove himself to his father, a lot of Draco lovers use his father and paint him as an abusive figure to give draco an excuse but to his beloved son he really wasn't. Because of the crowd his dad was involved with he inadvertently forced him into that position, so it is partly his fault for that reason.

This is the very, VERY influential fanfiction reading. Draco is a much-spoiled, much loved boy. But more importantly: Draco is not a particularly important character - he and his family are the stand-in characters representing wealthy Death-Eaters. His “journey” is unimportant to the novels.

Draco is doing this because Voldemort is punishing Lucius. He failed to get the prophecy, he was responsible for losing the diary (which he was told to keep safe), he wasn’t part of the followers who brought back Voldemort, so his punishment was “let’s see if your son can basically redeem your family by completing a suicide mission, if he succeeds…good, if he fails that’s punishment for Lucius” hence Narcissa believing this is a cruel thing to do to Draco and fearing for his life and making the unbreakable vow with shape to protect him

In Ron's defense, they definitely didn't do him justice in the movies. A lot of smart ideas and advice that Hermione gives in the MOVIES, were actually originally Ron's lines in the BOOKS. Ron was a lot more active in the books and I don't know why they changed his character so drastically. A lot of Ron's confidence issues come from feeling like he lives in everyone's shadow. He's the 6th son, he doesn't have any special accomplishments or things that makes him stand out. His brother Charlie works with dragons, his brother Bill is an accomplished auror, his brother Percy is head boy at hogwarts, the twins are...well twins, and ginny is special because she's the only girl. And then his best friend is one of the most well known wizard in the world. He has a lot of reason to not feel sure of himself. The Half Blood Prince is my favorite HP book. Every HP reactor I've watched gets confused about Tom Riddle’s reason for asking Slughorn about Horcruxes. Young Tom wanted to know if it was possible to split his SOUL into 7 pieces. He had already created one Horcrux, the ring he was wearing, by kiIIing his Muggle father & grandparents so he needed to know if it was possible to split his soul multiple times. Once Slughorn hinted that it was, young Tom planned to split his soul seven times by creating SIX HORCRUXES while the seventh piece of his soul remained in his body. It was that seventh piece that fled the Potters house after his body was destroyed by the rebounding curse. It hid in the forests of Albania where Quirrell encountered it & returned it to Britain. That was the piece that Pettigrew/Wormtail used to resurrect Voldemort in Goblet of Fire. Also Voldemort did not expect that Draco would succeed in eliminating Dumbledore. Giving Draco the task was punishment for Lucius Malfoys failures. The diary Horcrux was destroyed in Lucius’s plot to open the Chamber of Secrets & he failed to retrieve the prophecy so Voldemort was furious. As punishment he gave Draco a task that he, Voldemort, didn’t think Draco could accomplish then told Narcissa that he would kiII the boy if he didn’t do it. Voldemort then told Snape of the plan with the understanding that Snape would do it once Draco failed. That’s why Snape was willing to make the Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa Malfoy when she came to him out of desperation. Lucius was still imprisoned in Azkaban & her sister Bellatrix was no help so Snape was her last chance to save her son.

The spell Harry uses on Draco in the bathroom, you can see in the scene before tha it was "Sectumsempra" and labeled "-for enemies" and it was handwritten in that tattered old Potions book he's been holding on to. Most of these spells can be broken down and translated from latin. Sectum, meaning "having been cut" and Sempra or Semper, meaning "always" or "forever." Harry basically hit Draco with a spell that continually slices the victim until fixed with a counter-curse.

12:00 the book explains that as someone creates Horcruxes they lose a piece of their soul. Since he did it many times he keeps ripping his soul up, which then makes him less human each time. Which makes him look less human.

I love the conversation at the end and your hypothesis of what you think may happen. Please don’t give spoilers everyone! And the second movie has been my favourite alongside the third because I watched them at the same ages as the actors themselves. It felt relatable to fear similar things and dealing with certain things about life that they would.

@PsiPrimeProductions110 ай бұрын
So the movies did Ron pretty dirty. In the books he's much more competent, and is kinda Harry and Hermione's source of information about the wizarding world ins and outs and culture. Also, it's more aparant in the books, but Ron has serious impostor's syndrome. He has two older brothers who you don't see much in the films who are extremely accomplished wizards and were both heads of their class. Fred and George were both both funnier than he was . . . so he has no confidence. We actually learn that he is a great wizard when his confidence isn't challenged. That's why he's so good at wizard's chess in the first movie, no one is trying to overshadow him in chess, so he still has all his confidence. O think it's the next movie where Ron is both at his lowest and at his best. But he's able to out-duel a LOT of wizards far older and more experienced than himself, and he's the best at navigating the wizarding world. Also, remember, in Harry Potter, the act of killing (out of malice) rips the soul apart, which is why Harry doesn't kill, he has a good soul and so he can't bring himself to rip it up by killing people, even people as vile as Bellatrix. Oh, and lastly, your comment about 'getting the parents out of the hood.' I think the Weasly parents would have refused the offer. They never cared much about money and they want to see their kids succeed and keep all the money of their success rather than be a burden financially. Actually, the probably already did refuse. One of their kids works for Gringotts (the goblin bank) making pretty good money, and another (Percy, we saw him briefly in the first movie) has a pretty high-ranking job in the ministry. They really are the best folks.

@@rosa61217 I mean, I tried to limit spoilers. I didn't say anything about the plot or anything. And saying that characters hit highest highs and lowest lows during their penultimate journey is . . . not really a spoiler? It's pretty common in most media.

Dumbledore's death scene is different in the book. Harry doesn't just hide there silently because Snape signaled him to be quiet. Dumbledore freezes or petrifies Harry with the spell Hermione used to on Neville in the first movie -- Petrificus Totalus. Harry could see what was happening but could not move or speak. About Slytherins: Slughorn is also Slytherin. One of the reasons Dumbledore brought him back to teach at Hogwarts is to have another teacher to help Snape, head of Slyterin House, with the students in Slytherin. BTW: McGonagall is head of Griffyndor House, her motivation in helping Harry become a seeker for that House. Also, remember the Sorting Hat thought to put Harry in Slytherin because he has the ambition and cunning that are Slytherin traits. You don't see as much of thee traits in the movies but will find them in the book. That's why reading (or listening to) the books will add to your understanding of not just explanations missing from the movies. You'll also see more character development -- Draco, Neville, Cho, and other students AND also teachers. As much as you may want Harry to killl somebody, he is not inclined to do permanent harm to another person. This is clear in Order of the Phoenix when Tom tells Harry, "You have to mean it." when Harry tried the Cruciatus Curse on Bellatrix. He could only go so far in torturing her. Bellatrix tortured Neville's parent into insanity with the Cruciatus Curse. Her killer instinct is strong.

Loving your reactions. As it kept coming up at the end; it’s always best to remember Harry Potter is only 5 years into his education of being a trained wizard. His teachers are mostly born and taught from birth. He doesn’t know everything. Something glossed over in the movie is that Harry Potter’s disadvantage is his tendency to yell out his high school level spells. Aka spells professors etc know too and know how to counteract. This a thought to keep in mind with Hermione too. She knows so much because she studies, but for Harry Potter certain things can come from his being more than her. Ron, in my opinion, takes his magical upbringing for granted and so we see it really played out in how awkward he is with romance. At no point is he truly “useless” because he’s the first true friend Harry has ever had, and he introduces Harry to the world of wizards.

Things you may have missed: 1. The Weasley House has been added on and added on, which is why it’s so tall. 2. Snape is more than a double agent…. Bellatrix and Narcissa are Siruis Black’s cousins. Remember that pureblood families did so much intermarrying that it was nearly impossible to avoid. 3. Yes, Fred & George opened their own business. It’s because of the war that they stayed home with their parents. 4. This movie was meant to show just how conflicted Draco was. 5. Snape’s story is long and full of sacrifice. On the surface, it seems as though he’s evil, but deep down, it’s so much more. Stick with the movies, you will see. 6. Ginny has had a crush on Harry since the first movie…. 7. Filch is a Squib… someone who was born from magical parents but isn’t magical themselves. So sadly, Hogwarts is really the only place he can work. 8. Dumbledore has been hunting Horcruxes and trying to destroy them…. That’s what happened to his hand. 9. Nevell Longbottom’s story is just a little break in this movie…. Don’t be scared.
