My favorite version by far. The animation is gorgeous, the songs are very catchy, and the message is timeless. One of Chuck Jones' greatest masterpieces.

Boris Karloff was a perfect voice for the Grinch and the narrator. And Thurl Ravenscroft's version of "YouYou're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is still the best.

I'll never forget sitting down in ninth grade home room one morning, and the teacher greeting us with, "So who watched How the Grinch stole Christmas last night?" Startled, we all looked around anxiously - after all, we were practically grown up, and waaay too cool for baby shows - but then one by one, we all sheepishly raised our hands. 🤭😉. Translation, I love it, too. Seuss, Jones and Karloff, a collaboration of three titans of their respective fields. One of my neighbors has an actual full-sized Grinch decoration coming out of their chimney. ☺️

The 1966 animated film is such a classic when it comes to not just Christmas movies, but animated adaptations of Dr. Seuss's works in general!!! And I'm happy to see you react to it Nick!!

Nick, I know you've seen this many times, and I'm so appreciative bc I genuinely LOVE a good re-watch reaction!! Even if someone has seen something a lot, it can mean just as much (a lot of time, even more) and can take on new meanings each time. Thanks for this!

You probably know this by now but the 1966 version of The Grinch was directed by Chuck Jones who directed a lot of Looney Tunes cartoons including the ones in The Bugs Bunny-Road Runner Movie (which he produced). He was a friend of Theodore Geisel AKA Dr. Seuss who wrote How the Grinch Stole Christmas book. Dr. Seuss was contacted by Jones to adapt his book into the special and at first Geisel was hesitant as he experienced failure with the movie The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T but Jones convinced him and became the producer of the special and wrote the lyrics to the songs including You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch (which was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft, who voiced Frosted Flakes' Tony the Tiger up til his death in 2005 and voiced several Disney characters in movies and rides). They collaborated during World War II with the Snafu cartoons, which were used to educate soldiers about what not to do.

Chuck Jones, the director of this special, is one of my favorite animation directors. He started with making many Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, and the Roadrunner. He also made the Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog Merrie Melodies shorts, which are a personal favorite of mine. Then he did some fantastic animated movies and specials, many of them adapted from children's books. He made another special based on a Dr. Seuss book, "Horton Hears a Who." He adapted the book "The Phantom Tollbooth" into a full length animated movie with live action bookends. He did a wonderful cartoon short for MGM studios called "The Bear Who Wasn't A Bear" based on a book. He did a trilogy of specials based on stories from Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book." "Rikki Tikki Tavi" "The White Seal" "Mowgli's Brothers" He adapted the book " The Cricket in Times Square" into an animated special and also produced two sequels. In the 80's he made the animated Alvin and the Chipmunks special "A Chipmunk Christmas" which evolved the chipmunks from the way they looked in the 60's to much like they would look in the 80's. He made a couple of charming Raggedy Ann & Andy animated specials, "The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile" and "The Great Santa Claus Caper." I recommend watching ALL of these even if you just do so on your own time and not as reactions. Happy Holidays and best wishes for a very good new year!

As a Horror fan, this is one of my favorite Christmas specials to watch. I love that Boris Karloff, the guy who played both Imhotep in The Mummy and Frankenstein’s Monster in the Universal Monster films, is both the Narrator and the Grinch himself in this! Merry Christmas, Nick! Merry Christmas, everyone!

I’m glad to see that some people are reacting to the OG version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Usually, it’s the one with Jim Carrey or Benedict Cumberbatch. This one happens to be my favorite of all the film adaptations! It’s charming, entertaining, and an overall fun watch. Also, Merry Christmas to you Nick!

Very happy you showed this version, don’t get me wrong I think Jim Carrey’s performance as the Grinch was a good fit, but there’s something about this classic that is necessary to watch first. Unfortunately a lot of people are watching the Jim Carrey one first and if they don’t have a reference for understanding Dr. Seuss stories they have a hard time catching up till halfway when they give up how abstract the world building is.

I have a bit of a request for a Seuss adaptation. Don't know if you've seen it or not, but if you haven't, I would love to see a series reaction to Netflix's Green Eggs and Ham. To say it's arguably the best Seuss adaptation outside of the Chuck Jones specials would be an understatement. It's actually incredible.
