Watching *INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE* For The First Time Ever and IT SLAPPED HARD! | COMMENTARY/REACTION

OK Ok ok...This damn movie did NOT hold back!! I don't remember the last time a movie left me feeling as happy as this one did! I felt all the feels from the old spider movies and watching them as a kid for the first time come flooding back!
So psyched for the sequel! 😍 Are you guys watching it in cinemas too?

The suits are from a lot of places, and yes, comics are some. Ones the ps4 game suit, etc. And it's Spider-Ham, not Spider-Pig. That was a Simpsons gag. Spider-Ham has been around since the early 80s in the comics.

So there is a thing in Marvel comics that in every universe there has to be a "Spider-Person" of some description. All have roughly similar powers, all have roughly similar back stories & all are connected through the multiverse by something called the "Web of Fate" (that was the white web structure you saw toward the end). Spider-Man (and his variants) are kind of a "multi-versal constant" that helps underpin reality.

All the suits are real but they are not all from comic books at least one is from a video game, and one isn’t Spider-Man it’s the scarlet spider a clone of Peter Parker named Ben Reilly originally from the amazing Spider-Man #149 in 1975 then he came back in the 1994 clone saga.

So fun fact about the content of this film. All spider people were adapted from their own comic (so they existed before the movie). None were made up for this movie. However, all of the villains were made specifically for the film. It shows the versatility of comic book characters.

@@TheIcemanthomas I think you might be misunderstanding my comment. Doc Ock is a Spidey villain, sure. However, Olivia Octavius as doc oc was invented for this film. Same with green goblin being a dragon beast. In contrast, every spider person we see has had their own comic/manga prior to the movie.

The awesome part of the Olivia reveal is that there are plenty of clues in the movie ahead of it. In the starting montage, you see the tentacle. Her glasses are octagonal During the first collider test, she's the one who says, "connecting to five separate dimensions." Her table and her light fixtures are octagonal. On the desk, there's a tube of the same material as her tentacles. The restraints on the chair are octagonal as well.

My favorite subtle one is when Spider-man's giving out his plan and talks about finding the head scientist it focuses on a guy who looks like he could be Doc Ock classic, then Olivia walks by, then we get the whole "reexamine my personal biases" line. You never think of it in the first watch, but in the second the foreshadowing (and the reason the watcher wouldn't think about it) hits like a truck.

You could get into the in universe Spiderman lore to explain what is going on but this movie is honestly a love letter to the Spiderman comic since the 1960s. The end was an homage to Stan Lee the co creator that gets all the buzz but the number 42 throughout the movie is a call to the other co creator and the first series writer Steve Ditko. Ditko loved baseball and his favorite player was Jackie Robinson. In the very first issue of Spiderman back in the 60s Ditko put the number 42 in the issue to honor Jackie Robinson. It was a perfect homage for the animators and creators of this film to put 42 in not only for a head nod to Ditko but also to Jackie Robinson for being the first black American baseball player in the National Baseball Association but also to honor Miles who is the first person of color to be called Spiderman. Ditko's vision lives on in Miles.

At some point in the Silver Age comics, Otto Octavius and Aunt May were to be married (complicated story). It might be an allusion to that. Or Aunt May is rather tech knowledgable so she might have worked with Olivia in the past.
