for the record, the fans making fun of bts having 0 daesangs while their "one year older group" had 16 or whatever is especially hilarious today because that group stopped somewhere below 20 daesangs while bts today are the most daesang awarded artist in history by a long shot, they have somewhere around 75 or 76, i lost count to be honest. they also have the only ever daesang sweeps in history, they're the only artist who ever won all 4 daesangs of the night at any award show, and they did it at multiple award shows in 2019 and one in 2020.

The Agust D mixtape also originally lost several tracks to copyright and the whole album could not be put out on big streaming platforms until very recently. Most importantly, BTS' *intention* with their mixtapes, covers and little projects before 2022 (which was when BTS began official solo projects e.g. FACE, Golden, JITB in light of their military service) was not to promote a solo debut or to top charts as solo artists; it was purely about the music, and the self-expression and experimentation they craved as budding artists full of creative potential and ideas.

You have to submit your work to the recording academy in order to be considered for a Grammy. It just means that they submitted BTS's work for six pieces of work and/or six different categories. I don't think these videos truly put into perspective just how impossible BTS' achievements seemed to the kpop industry. Before BTS, no Korean artist besides PSY with Gangnam Style had even touched Western award shows, and certainly not to continue to win year after year and only grow bigger and more successful. Honestly, these kpop stans, although nasty and gatekeeping and unsupportive of the amazing things BTS could do for the entire industry, had pretty realistic expectations. BTS were "the first Korean artist" and "the first Asian artist" to do SO many things. When you're in the kpop bubble for a long time, you come to understand that some things are just unreachable, and most kpop stans enjoy the niche exclusivity of kpop as a secret interest to keep to yourself. But not only is that a rather orientalist attitude, but so many failed to see BTS' potential for stardom because they were written off by kpop as "just another boy group from a small company wanting their five minutes of fame". The general consensus was that BTS would get their time to shine and then fade into the background, just like every other act outside of the Big 3. Beyond kpop, though, the Western music industry is an entirely different beast for a foreign act not supported by industry power, and BTS conquered that too against all odds. I'll forever be immensely proud of everything they've gone through and achieved, all the battles they fought to break boundaries and uphold their values to make the global music industry a better place for everyone. Their belief in music and their endless gratitude and humility that could resonate with millions is what brought them here, and it's what will keep them here.

Oh mannnn the first video gave me too many flashbacks. It wasn't just a few tweets that got less than ten likes that were hate comments, it was lots of em with more than 100k likes. On other social platforms as well, not just one. It was also from people who weren't even familiar with music that wasn't in English. Kpop was starting to grow immensely. It was growing more audiences at an exponential growth by 2017-2018 (thanks to bts!). Talking smack, the racism, the hatred, being terrible really. Bts were the punching bags and because of that so many people are now being way more open than before to give kpop a try. And I'm not someone who just starts pointing fingers but the kpop community's hatred with bts was so so bad especially when bts were getting that global recognition. It was HELL during K-award show seasons too. Now, people can't say anything about bts' popularity and success but they've found many other ways to spread their anger unfortunantely. It's like war out there, but 2025 will bring better days.

BTS is hated cause first they were from a small company which means they were not seen as equals compared to those from the Big 3. This made them targets for disrespect, bullying, etc. Once they did start gaining more fans and traction then people started hating on them even more out of jealousy and feeling threatened that a "nobody" group from a "nobody" company now is winning on the same level and/or surpassing Big 3 groups. They surpassed the Big 3 and became the Big 1, The One and Only... which is probably why they're still hated til this day. I'm sure many haters just lurking in the corners waiting for another chance to drag them. Prime example would be the current MHJ drama.
