@@OnceUponaReaction the part where you said it looked so fake wasn't in the movie. Never seen that before. It's a deleted scene that was obviously added back in the directors cut. That is probably why it doesn't look good. Maybe it wasn't finished. Or that was why it was cut. It's really unnecessary. In the movie the first time you see Newt is when they shoot at her. She had parents and they were killed by Aliens. We understood that already.

Strategically a smart move, if you ask me. If he went "scary" again, he would be COMPETING with himself! Hey, Vanessa! This is one of the best sequels ever made! You did the right thing in seeing the superior SPECIAL EDITION version. The future Ripley inhabits is implied to be a dystopic corporatocracy. The most pervasive and powerful corporate entity is the Weyland-Yutani Company, a 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. It is a multinational conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar transport and terraforming with a stake in every colony world. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of the Alien universe. Ash and Burke were following a secret corporate mandate to obtain a xenomorph specimen in order to profit from research and weaponization. In the "AvP" films, you actually meet the company founders before their merger, Mr. Weyland and Ms. Yutani. Some trivia: The picture of Ripley's elderly daughter in the Special Edition is actually Sigourney Weaver's real-life mother! The late Al Matthews, who played Sgt. Apone, was a true-blue Marine who was the first black man to be promoted to Sergeant in the Corps during his service in Vietnam! The knife-trick scene was originally supposed to be performed by Lance Henriksen alone but he convinced director James Cameron to surprise Bill Paxton by involving him as they shot the scene! Paxton's wide-eyed terror is completely real! Fan favorite Vasquez is played by non-Hispanic Jenette Goldstein! I like that her death enables Gorman to reclaim his honor. Ms. Goldstein now is the proprietress of a Los Angeles-based boutique that specializes in bespoke large-size bras! The motto of her company is, "At Jenette's, the alphabet begins with 'D'."! Bishop's programming to not harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inaction is ripped straight from Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics! The late Bill Paxton, who has the distinction of being killed on screen by an Alien, a Terminator and a Predator, will NEVER be forgotten for his reading of the line, "Why don't you put HER in charge?", referring to little Newt in her oversized helmet. Lol. "ALIEN 3" is a DIVISIVE film but it's an EXCELLENT entry in the series. It's directed by David Fincher and features Charles Dance and Charles Dutton. It's brutal, fast-paced, has some extraordinary scares and concludes the story elegantly. Please DON'T SKIP IT! Make sure you see the ASSEMBLY CUT (Special Edition with longer runtime). "Alien Resurrection" is the optional one because it's a hot mess except for one cool aquatic sequence. The ambitious prequels, "Prometheus" and "Covenant", mark director Ridley Scott's return to the series but they are mostly good JUST for Michael Fassbender's performances. Scott demystifies the creature and unsatisfyingly attempts to address who the elephant-headed pilot of the derelict spacecraft was. If you're going to see the "AvP" films, then you need to acquaint yourself with the Predator. The first is an action classic with Schwarzenegger. Danny Glover stars in "Predator 2" in which a link between franchises appears! Dark Horse comics ran with the crossover concept inspiring Hollywood to make two crossover films with moderately successful to excellent results. They're fun and exciting guilty pleasures with the second one, "AvP: REQUIEM", being particularly lean and mean. There is also a "PREDATORS" film by Robert Rodriguez that is definitely worth a look. The "Predator" (2018) reboot, however, should be avoided at all costs; it's a franchise-killer! The Alien films have a RICHER SUBTEXT while the Predator films are more ACTION FARE but they're both fun sci-fi thrillers. Below is a VIEWING ORDER and an INTERNAL CHRONOLOGY: VIEWING ORDER: Alien Aliens (Special Edition) Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) Alien Resurrection (Director's Cut) [OPTIONAL] Predator (1987) Predator 2 Predators Alien vs Predator Alien vs Predator: Requiem (Unrated) Prometheus [OPTIONAL] Covenant [OPTIONAL] INTERNAL CHRONOLOGY: Predator (1987) Predator 2 Alien vs Predator Alien vs Predator: Requiem (Unrated) Predators Predator (2018) [SKIP THIS AWFUL FRANCHISE-KILLING REBOOT] Prometheus [OPTIONAL] Covenant [OPTIONAL] Alien Aliens (Special Edition) Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) Alien Resurrection (Director's Cut) [OPTIONAL]

I agree for the most part. The viewing order is great. IMHO the best ones are Alien, Aliens, Predator (1987), Predator 2 - and additionally AvP for the cross-over. It is amazing to see how engaged you are in the movie, with the dynamic of your emotions and intellect. Your editing deserves mention too, in the pausing of the film when sharing a comment. In similar Reaction podcasts, while the film is still on Play, the person / persons reacting will comment, and consequently miss certain details in the movie. Also, switching your "cameos" from side to side reduces eye strain. As far as "Alien" being the more artful film, we are agreed! "Aliens" was more of a, "in your face," kind of "rollercoaster ride" film, whereas "Alien" was more subtle and elegantly evocative. The soundscape in "Alien" was more effective for me too. Well ... would you mind excusing me for posting an overly long comment? In closing, Blessings to your parents who raised such a beautiful child.

Burke really sold Ripley down the river early on by NOT telling her there was a colony already on LV-426. That should've been a red flag right there, as he made her look a complete idiot in front of those executives. There was an incident in my youth I can't even remember completely from the start but apparently we were at the zoo and an American Bison had got out and was ramming anything close and my Dad and older brother were downstairs in the reptile exhibit at the time. But I do remember my Mom pushing me by my chest and saying "Get behind me." And she said if he (the bull who escaped) runs at us you're going to run that way (my left) and quit clinging. Hightly enjoyed your reaction videos for "Alien" and "Aliens". Actually I also like the first "Alien" better, though the "Aliens" is great. I think you should see the whole Alien Quadrology. There are 4 movies telling the story of Ellen Ripley and the Alien, and if we speak about all them combined the cold-blooded-triller-mood (which you have in the first movie) prevails over the brave-marines-action of the second. I've noticed that people who adore "Aliens" always say "There is only two movies in the franchise worth seeing - "Alien" and "Aliens", and the second one is better", but I like all 4 movies. To me "Aliens" are good as the part of the quadrology, but I absolutely against narrowing this thriller to the simple fight of marines vs animal-like aliens (though in the first movie we were clearly told that this creature is intellegent). I can understand, why people prefers "Aliens" - among all the Alien franchise movies the second one is the most action-filled, has less philosophy and it is not as dark and creepy as other parts. But you see, you definitely should see "Alien 3" and "Alien Ressurection" (for this one theatrical version is better than director's), because 4 movies combined have the multiplying effect, and totally hit you. All the movies are extremely different, but they perfectly fit together as parts of Alien Saga: first you have dark, cold and shocking "Alien" by Ridley Scott, than action packed "Aliens" by James Cameron, than we once again have a dark thriller "Alien 3" by David Fincher (probably the darkest part, originally planned as the last one), and than rather action packed but acid crazy and unusual "Alien Ressurection" by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (and written by Joss Whedon). Also main Quadrology has sidestories: - the crossover with Predator Franchise - "Alien vs Predator" (pure fun, but actually is quite good) and "Aliens vs Predator: Requiem" (which is very bad); - the new sidestory prequel made once again by Ridley Scott, cause he wanted to return to this universe, but with a new story - it is "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant " and 99% TBC.

CGI is great and all, but there are just some things it cant replace when it comes to practical, especially when it comes to people or humanoid beings. (Actually, I think that I'll use about eight other devices to do that). There is no problem with liking the first one because they are both similar, but very different (with #1 being a sci-fi thriller, horror film and #2 being a sci-fi action film) and both very good in their own way. They work perfectly in tandem and do what is very rare. That is having a great film that is followed by a sequel that's as good, if not better than the original. And Ripley is such a badass in each of them and you see how she evolves between the two films. Girl power! Do yourself a favor, save yourself some time and stop with those two films in this series. Do not watch the next two. Savor these two and move on. Terminator and Terminator 2 are another rare pair.

I agree, I love Aliens it's a great action movie but the first Alien movie is still my favourite. It's has an atmospheric tension that draws you in and each death seems more heartbreaking and shocking to watch.

Girl, I'm watching this film, right now! Lol!! It's the Special Edition or I would prefer to call it the Director's Cut.

15:17 "And the sergeant is, like, so new at this." The lieutenant. The sergeant is _Apone._ He's in there with his _troops._ Sergeants tend _not_ to be inexperienced. It's part of what makes them sergeants. But "sergeant" is an _enlisted_ rank, while "lieutenant" is an _officer_ rank. They tend to be more _educated,_ but might or might _not_ have a whole lot of experience. To understand the difference, here, consider a _medical_ hierarchy. Nurses can have a _whole_ lot of experience, but doctors, however inexperienced, have more authority.

Honestly this is one of those times where two loved installments of a franchise are interchangeable for being the best in the series (or people’s favorites). Like Terminator 1 vs Terminator 2, Rocky 1 vs Rocky 2, A New Hope vs Empire Strikes Back, Star Trek (2009) vs Star Trek Into Darkness, Casino Royale vs Skyfall, etc. If you like Alien better no one’s gonna crucify you for it. I like Aliens better but I personally like both. 🤘😁

I consider them equal to each other.

1:17 "So shiny." That's frozen condensation. Water droplets are always in the air. As the temperature drops, they condense on surfaces. As it drops even further, they freeze. As cold as it gets in space, under the conditions of prolonged space flight, that's to be expected.

No hate - Good reaction and it's true that when a story (the first one) becomes a franchise (Aliens, Aliens 3 through Aliens 377), the fear factor disappears. Fun, thanks -

watch the 2004 movie "alien vs predator" if you want, which is a good movie after all, but I don't recommend yout to watch alien 3, the movie that killed the saga and destroyed everything good was done with first two movies.

Channels like yours are 'reaction' channels. Don't really understand people getting so upset if your reaction isnt what they want. As you said, we all have opinions. It's fun to see someone experience iconic movies like these.

Dan O'Bannon, the person who wrote the screenplay for "Alien" (based on a story he co-wrote), had the view that horror movies shouldn't have sequels. It was his viewpoint that people just could never be scarred as they were with the first one. So he really appreciated James Cameron's idea to make the sequel to be a Sci-Fi/Action movie. People are mixed about which of the two movies they liked better so you're reaction definitely isn't rare. :)
@thegorn683 жыл бұрын
The first one SHOULD be scarier because it was directed as a Horror/Sci-Fi (Ridley Scott) as the sequel is an Action/Sci-Fi (James Cameron). Two different directors with different styles. I like Aliens better but I'm more of an action film fan than horror. It has enough jump scares in it for me. As far as it feeling "too long", you watched the director's cut version with a bunch of added scenes that were not in the original release (i.e. Newt's family, Ripley learning the details of her daughter, the sentry guns, Ripley and Hicks exchanging first names, etc.). It's almost 20 minutes longer than theatrical release.

Here's the rule about Alien and Aliens. If you see many eggs scattered around you or anywhere else, just runaway before any of them hatches and sticks against your face

Right! If you love Horror/Sci Fi more than "Action-Sci-Fi-scares" then it makes sense you would like the masterpiece first film more! No problem! It was fun watching you react to this one, tho! You are so fun!

The first Alien was a masterpiece of a horror film. Thrilling, suspenseful, terrifying. Nothing wrong with preferring it!

The 66yr old woman that plays "Amanda Ripley" (Ripley's daughter) in the photograph is actually the real life photo of Sigourney Weaver's mother, Elizabeth Inglis, cool eh!? So if you look carefully, you can really see a lot of Sigourney's facial details in "Amanda" (aka Elizabeth).

Huge plot hole @9:20 Ripley says she can drive that loader. She's been asleep for nearly 60 years. That's like someone from the 1960s trying to use a laptop, use a mobile phone or just even drive a modern car. Actually, not even drive it. I doubt they'd be able to even open the door. lol.

Who said the cargo roboter is new? Maybe it's more than 60 years old. In Alien 4 Ripley referred to the cargo ship they were flying being "older than herself" which meant it must have been 200+ years old

Agreed, the first movie is better. I still love Aliens though and it's a very strong sequel, but Alien has the "grit": realistic performances, atmosphere and suspense. Your reaction was lots of fun!

I know what you mean about Alien being superior. I recently watched the first - Alien - in the big theater. It was so dark and lonely -- Halfway through I felt like I was halfway down the roller coaster and was stopped, and just watching and waiting to fall to the bottom. I was traumatized this time even though at age 10 I saw it with my mom and was fine, until now, as an adult. It was so genius and effective!!

You're allowed to like the first one better! They're _very_ different films, so different people have different preferences with them. While I think this is one of the best _sequels_ ever made, the first is an absolute classic.

The first one was a horror flic with a sci-fi wrapper and had a different director. The second was an action flic with a sci-fi wrapper. I agree with you.
