This is one of my all time favorite adaptians of How The Grinch Stole Christmas! especially because this movie reveals a little bit more about the Grinch's past both the animation and voice acting was just marvelous!!!

I love that in the end-credits you can see the Grinch helping Cindy-Lous mother with his inventions. So in the end Cindy-Lous wish became true because she was nice to the Grinch❤️

I absolutely love this movie! I love how they told more about the grinch and I love how they did his backstory. I nearly cried when I saw his past and him giving his speech. The fact that he was alone for the whole Christmas year with nobody caring is so sad and I was just so happy to see him at that dinner. I think the way they did his backstory was better than the original imo.

I feel like what a lot of people miss if they don’t watch the end credits is that Cindy Lou got her wish. The Grinch turned his invention-making smarts into time saving gadgets for her mom, helping her around the house and stuff. It’s so sweet.

Since they were in the same orphanage, that is why Bricklebaum considers him and Grinch friends, but to Grinch, Bricklebaum is a reminder of his painful memories as a child of being alone on Christmas.

I like this new grinch movie a lot. The Grinch had been alone long enough but not anymore with Cindy Lo's kindness. And helping her mother too like in the credits where Grinch helped Cindy Lo's mother. And Max is so cute he never let the Grinch down. And the funny part is the screaming goat lol 😆

You forgot it but in the live-action version, Cindy-Lou have two older brothers and Chuck Jones' cartoon had her three siblings, two brothers and one sister, roughly the same age, so in all adaptions Cindy-Lou isn't the only child (the original book doesn't say wherever she is the only child or have siblings).

Plus, she's intentionally aged-up in the 2000 live-action & this 2018 CGI version animated by Illumination Entertainment. In both the source book & the original Chuck Jones-animated short narrated by horror legend (as the green-gray skinned Monster with the flat-top head & electrified neck bolts created by mad scientist Dr. Victor Frankenstein & Imhotep the Mummy, along with his human disguise as Egyptian archeologist Ardeth Bay) Boris Karloff & sung (specifically, the song "You're a Mean One, Mister Grinch") by Thurl Ravenscroft (predominately of Frosted Flakes cereal mascot Tony the Tiger ["They're Grr...eat!"] & Disney attraction recognition, namely classic fan-favorites Pirates of the Caribbean [as various pirates] & The Haunted Mansion [as the broken Singing Bust leading the vocals to _Grim Grinning Ghosts_ in the graveyard]), when The Grinch is caught by her whilst trying to abscond with her family's Christmas tree after taking the rest of their stuff beforehand, the book & the original animated short is quoted verbatim in saying: "As The Grinch took the tree & started to shove, he heard a small sound, like the coo of a dove. He turned around fast & saw a small Who. Little Cindy-Lou Who, who was NO MORE THAN 2." In the live action version (portrayed by a young Taylor Munson, who is the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless punk-rock band nowadays) & this 2018 CGI remake, the fact that Cindy-Lou's character had been given more prominence meant that she had to be aged-up from her source material age of 2 primarily so she could interact with The Grinch more & more or less be the quintessential reason why the furry green curmudgeon stopped hating Christmas, whether it was, in the Jim Carrey live-action version, he had been unfairly bullied as a child as well as put into a unnecessary love triangle between himself, the biased future/then-current Mayor of the town Augustus May Who & Martha Mae Whovea (as the woman who truthfully loved The Grinch more than she actually cared for the lavishly expensive but ultimately ridiculous material items which Mayor May Who had repeatedly given her) until a chance meeting with Cindy-Lou (the young child was having her own Christmastime doubts too, so she thought helping The Grinch might help her solve her problem of feeling that the true spirit of Christmas had somehow been lost & wound up getting replaced by all of the glitzy commercialism surrounding the holidays) thawed The Grinch's cold heart (thereby causing it to triple in size, although if that happened to anyone in real-life, they would've died of cardiac arrest/heart failure, so it's good that The Grinch is a fictional character, even though there are cynically jaded grumps who despise the joyfulness Christmas exudes in the real world, too & no amount of encounters with adorable children who still steadfastly believe in the wonderment of the holiday [like Cindy-Lou does for The Grinch or what his own clerk's youngest sickly crippled son Tiny Tim Cratchit does for Ebeneezer Scrooge], nor any ethereal visits from an angelic figure chronicling one's past, a manifestation of Father Christmas who lives in the moment but isn't afraid to show the folly of mankind's glaring lack of attention to what's truly important & a person's selfish covetousness via the metaphysical fraternal twin offspring of humanity known as Ignorance & Want ["Beware of them, for upon their brow is written your doom"], or even the literal Grim Reaper, collectively as The Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present & Future Yet to Come from _A Christmas Carol_ written by famous agnostic novelist Charles Dickens in Victorian England is going to likely change these real people's minds) OR if, as per this 2018 CGI version animated by Illumination Entertainment, The Grinch was simply a lonely orphan who had nobody to be with on Christmas during the most formative years of his life, until he finally saw the true meaning of Christmas thanks to Cindy-Lou's selfless wish to help her single parent mother, eventually leading to The Grinch essentially becoming a surrogate father for Cindy-Lou & her younger twin brothers.

I am not a big fan of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The original animation creeped me out as a little kid and the live action was just a bit weird. But this version I love! It was funny, heartwarming, emotional, and not creepy. Extra points for having Pentatonix as the carolers and when Grinch said he's had to put up with Christmas for 53 years, that's actually true. The story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas had actually been around for 53 years when this movie was released. I'm also glad you liked it! So many people don't like it, which stinks because this movie is really amazing.

The thing is, the "53 years" line is taken verbatim from the original Dr. Suess book. So, It's just quoting the text like most adaptations do, but if it was 53 years between the book being written & the Illumination version of the story being told, that's an added bonus, even if we had the original Boris Karloff-narrated & Thurl Ravenscroft-sung animated short, Jim Henson's _The Wubulous World of Dr. Suess_ puppet series, the Jim Carrey live action of _How The Grinch Stole Christmas_ from 2000 directed by Ron Howard (of _Andy Griffith_ , _American Graffiti_, _The Love Boat: American Style_ & _Happy Days_ fame), and even both _Suessical: The Musical_ as well as a standalone _How The Grinch Stole Christmas_ stage production in the meantime.

Not my dark jokes, but I wanted to share them anyway Grinch sits down at the table: The food is poisoned. This is all a revenge plot to make sure the Grinch never steals again. Try the Wine! Who at the table: Now let’s have this fresh reindeer. Grinch: Reindeer? Ahhh Fred! Another Who: Don’t worry we have a second helping. Grinch: His family! I will say the look of the film is nice and you definitely have the feel of Christmas, but I always have and always will say the definitive and one true version of this story is the 1966 Chuck Jones special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

2:33 It's funny because I think they purposely had that lady be blonde and wearing pink to tease you (the audience) into thinking she's Cindy lou Who. When the scene of Grinch eating the pink-and-white cake was shown in the trailer, my brother and I thought it was because he was overindulging to make himself fat to be Santa Claus. Easter egg: Grinch's red-and-white-striped scarf is supposed to look like the Cat in the Hat's red-and-white-striped hat, which is also a Dr.Seuss character. I think for this movie, they really tried to be better about making Max more of Grinch's companion than his personal slave like in the animated special. Other fun fact: the little girl who voiced Cindy Lou Who is Cameron Seely, who played the younger daughter Helen Barnum in "The Greatest Showman," who tells the wishing machine that she wishes to marry Santa Claus, which is interesting because Cindy Lou Who wants to trap Santa so she can talk to him.

I actually like this movie shockingly cause I didn’t think you can add anything else to the Grinch and I didn’t even know that was Benedict Cumberbatch! I only found out cause Nick mentioned it. I can only kinda hear him when he says certain words but if no one pointed it out I wouldn’t have known. I hope Nick eventually does the movie adaption of “Olive the Other Reindeer” starring Drew Barrymore! I know he likes dogs and it’s a puppy named Olive whose the main character so I know he’ll at least enjoy that. It’s such an original concept for a movie (especially a Christmas movie) with a good message and is sadly vastly underrated. Also every song in that movie is a bop~ not a single one disappoints. I listen to that soundtrack nonstop this time of year, as well as rewatching it cause I can never get sick of it 🥰 it’s pretty short without commercials and available on KZbin for *FREE* so it’s very accessible to watch! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to everyone :) Edit: I also love how extra artsy and crafty this Grinch is. I didn’t really notice it fully until Nick brought up how many inventions he made.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the Jim Carry Grinch is incredibly overrated. I'm not saying it's bad per say, but it is too overhyped. The 2018 movie has to be my favorite Grinch adaptation. There's just so much more to his character and the overall story, not to mention the soundtrack.

I'll admit, I did genuinely like this film, but I have to agree with people when they say this version of the Grinch isn't mean enough. After he assaults the Whos, he never does anything else to warrant the 'mean one' title. It also doesn't help that during the scene with him going to Whoville, I kinda felt like some of his bitterness was warranted. At first, all they were trying to do was say hi to him, but then the carolers show up and basically start harassing him, and I actually wanted to see him do something to them.

It's not very noticable with Benedeict Cumberbatch's vocie as the Grinch cuz he uses an american accent instead of his natural brittish voice (unlike say Smaug in The Hobbit movies). In fact he read it with brittish accent but since all other voice actors are american he instead adapted an american accent.
