Many of the best musicians come out of the black church.
@venusspacey96855 ай бұрын
They really dont. You just know good ones who majority.

@@venusspacey9685Not to be pointed with this one, but I'm sure Snarky Puppy would disagree. Lol. 😂
@venusspacey96853 ай бұрын
@@LEOsoulMonarch 😂 those the only musicians you know? Thats one example of millions of musicians who didnt come up in church. Musicians who practice are the best. Church doesnt matter.
@LEOsoulMonarch3 ай бұрын
@@venusspacey9685 First, of course not. I know more musicians than the ones in church. But you tend to find some pretty darn good ones in the church. From personal and secondhand experience. Second, you're being too objective with it. Lol. Of course there are very great musicians that come up outside of the church. And to your credit, it's not an absolute rule that the greatest musicians come from the church hands down; there are many areas they can come from, and practice does play a very important role. But the thing you're overlooking is that church is part of culture, which can play a big influence on musicians because the culture is the driving force that makes them practice. For instance, the phenomenon of gospel chops originated from a bunch of young church musicians getting together during or after church and shedding like crazy! Then some social media posts later, gospel musicians blew up. Also, one of the responsibilities that church musicians have is to set the atmosphere for praise and worship. So that can be a driving factor in developing as a musician too, since you have a job to do. What I'm saying is that coming from a black church is more intertwined with the skilled musicians that come from it than you'd think.
@LEOsoulMonarch3 ай бұрын
@@venusspacey9685 Also, Snarky Puppy blended musicians from outside the church with musicians who have been in Black churches. The band leader Michael (bassist) even said so in one of his interviews. Snarky Puppy is a hybrid blend in that regard. I mean, heck, Cory Henry is a good example. He is heavily influenced by the church.

Lazarus Jones is definitely under appreciated here in Chicago and non of it is his fault. We have a situation where most of the cogic and baptist elders here are leaving their pastors and starting their own churches. Lazarus Jones and many other great musicians here are left playing in half empty churches which is a crime for a great musician should have to endure on a weekly basis.
