Nobody _EVER_ talks about the worst part of the six earthbenders scene, though! The six of them weren’t even the attackers, _they were just setup!_ All of them do an entire dance routine to float a small rock slowly through the air….and then 5:05 _ONE GUY,_ in _ONE MOVE,_ launches the damn thing at _at least_ five times faster than they moved it!

I feel really bad for Dev Patel and Noah Ringer especially because in a different timeline and with a better script and direction, they could have genuinely been good in their roles. Noah actually has so many Aang like qualities if you watch him behind the scenes, but so much of that was lost due to bad script and dialogue and direction. And Dev is easily one of the most talented actors who is wasted in a script that gave him little nuance or range. There is so little either could do with this bad of a script and direction.
@blobbertmcblob488811 ай бұрын
Apparently this movie made Noah Ringer never want to act again. From what I hear, Shamalayan was just such an anal fissure about the scenes that they had to repeat their lines over and over until he decided they were "perfect"

I'm SO glad you brought up James Newton's mind-blowing score, as it means I have FINALLY figured out why that giant wave scene near the ending connected so much with me when I saw this in theatres, and why it's stuck with me so long. Tragically (lol), I saw this movie before I saw the series, so while I remember being like "why are there white kids in what appears to be an Inuit village," I didn't understand the level of problematic this movie was until I watched the series. As a massive fan of the series now, I feel a sense of shame when I think of that giant wave scene because a part of me has preferred it to the spirit-destruction scene in the show, despite not having seen the movie since it came out. This could be the wrong take, but I think there is beauty and so much power in showing your enemies the power and control you have, without actually using it to defeat them, and after the pathetic bending in the movie, the power to make a fu*king gigantic wave seemed epic. But it's the MUSIC in that scene specifically that makes it seem so moving and profound, and I somehow overlooked that. How many movies out there would be half (or less) of what they are without the score?

Ok, In the movies defense: 1. We were all way to rough on Noah Ringer. He quit acting because of all the hate. 2. Noah did what was in the script. It’s not his fault. It was bad writing. 3. I actually liked the air bender tattoos from the movie way more than the ones from Netflix. 4. I don’t get this Oong hate thing that much. I am German and the name was always Aang here (but voiced Oong) so it wasn’t really an issue. But I get it. The show was originally American (I think) and it was English pronunciation so that can throw people off. However, it wasn’t an issue anywhere. Maybe try watching the German synchro a bit to understand what I mean. It was always exactly pronounced the same way as in the movies. 5. I didn’t find (and still to this day) the CGI that bad. For 2010 I think it’s alright. Yeah, that Little Rock (for a group of earth benders) was a bit wacky but especially the water bending I actually enjoyed. 6. In the Netflix adaptation Katara is also not dark skinned.
@RedLeif18 ай бұрын
What I always enjoy is there's part of a scene that "Katara" talks over that they mostly took out when she's talking about taking back Earth Kingdom villages from the Fire Nation. The full scene was deleted. In that scene the villagers celebrate by doing the most generic native dance you could think of. Makes me laugh every time.

Another good thing I will give the movie was the casting of Azula, for who short it is. The actress Summer Bishi, showed on the show The Magicians she would have made a killer Azula under an actual good adaption

I do gotta give the costume and hair makeup credit, cause those wigs are nice, way nicer than the 2024 wigs

amazing video, but don’t sleep on Nightmares and Daydreams. I find it a highly entertaining episode that digs into Aang’s inner turmoil and surprisingly relatable insomnia.

Before i watched the original series, i watched the live action movie. I was born in 2005 so i missed basically all of the avatar stuff. I only got into it about a few years ago i believe. I watched the movie and was like “why does everyone say it’s bad? It’s lowkey kinda good.” Then i watched the series and MAN at the end i cried like a baby. Instantly became one of my favorite shows. Just finished watching it for the third time about a week ago. And then i also realized how horrible the movie was. I dont know why everyone always feels like a good show needs a live action. Just let a masterpiece be a masterpiece.

When i think about live adaptations of japanese animation like Fullmetal Alchemist, Saint Seiya, or Attack on Titan, i must admit : this one is almost decent.

As a huge ATLA fan I went to this movie premiere day without looking at reviews, paid full price and 3D, to this day I still remember the feeling of deep disappointment and robbery. Never again I went to a movie without checking reviews or in 3D

I watched this movie having not seen the show in awhile. And I was young. The biggest thing I was upset about was the cliffhanger.

I saw a behind-the-scenes video of this movie, and the child playing Aang actually behaved like Aang when not shooting. I wonder what the director was thinking.

Everyone gets this movie wrong. It wasn't an adaptation of the show. It was an adaptation of the recap episode from the show.

The writers of Netflix' The Witcher is doing exactly what M. Night did. They admitted to purposefully going against the IP because they thought they could do it better. It didn't have anything to do with artistic choice or comprimises, they are just that narcissistic and unaware.

I mean, I can't really give Noah Ringer too hard of a time because I heard that he had never taken an acting lesson in his life before this movie and, holy shit, Dev Patel deserved so much better than to be in this movie.

This is mean me the movie is a masterpiece of the masterpiece movie ever this is insane but I think I am the only one who loves the movie ever in the world and it’s frustrating because the movie deserves better than bad criticism and hates because many peoples are so unopened to new stuff and new stories whenever and it’s just frustrating because I am a huge fan of ATLA but I love the movies and the show equally and now with the 2024 live action version of ATLA this is the best masterpieces Series and movie ever in the world for Percy Jackson I have the same feelings as ATLA but for Dragon Ball evolution I agree

The thing is we've already seen how a modern day netflix Avatar would look with Dragon Prince and, even though its pretty good, they took what Avatar would have told in 2 maybe 3 seasons and turned it into 6. That's not even including the limitations of life action CGI technology which is ever escalating but will never beat the animation. Therefore, unlike with One Piece where they were actually able to improve the pace and trade realistic, strong acting in a more realistic setting, the Avatar remake will likely worsen the pacing or at best keep it the same and will have to reconcile trying to make realistic a world that is intentionally made to be fantastical and cartoony. To give credit, I do think they are right that they can make an improvement on Sokka's misogynic tendancies but what a graveyard of Ls to attempt to face to fix one problem. I hope new kids like it is all i can say

I believe it came out a few years after this movie that Katara's actress was a nepo baby, and her casting caused a bit of a chain reaction, i.e. Katara is white, so her brother and grandmother would have to be as well. Still doesn't explain the casting choice for Aang or the original choice for Zuko.
