Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the reaction! Wanted to rewatch this movie as it has been a while since I watched it. Also apologies for how many things I forgot, really wasn't trying to hide anything. Definitely going to be watching this a lot more now though as The Polar Express was such a great Christmas movie for me!

Fun fact: There's a deleted cutscene explaining the ghost man's death. It's explained in a song actually but basically he was a poor homeless man named King who rode on the top of the train for free without anyone knowing, the train went down a steep track and ahead was a tunnel called Flat Top. Before he could scream or anything it was too late, he was smacked off the train and he died immediately. But his soul always remained on the train.

@@homeiswonderland There's a KZbin video you can search for. Type "the polar express it takes two" that's the name of the song. The reason they showed the deleted scene was to pay tribute to the man Michael Jeter, the man who I believe played as both men who drove the train. They cut it out cause it didn't fit with the story. The video plays on a few minutes so if you want you can skip to the part were they actually sing about the homeless man.

This certainly explains why the ghost spoke about Flat Top Tunnel in such an ominous light, because he perished there, and wanted to spare the protagonist the same horrible fate.

One thing I've caught about this movie over the years: When they're walking around the north pole, they hear the elves talking about the last present having candy cane paper and a green number 7 bow. You're supposed to think that it's Billy's present, but eventually, you notice so is Hero boy's present. Leaves you to wonder: did Santa know he was going to lose the bell?

I think it’d have been more interesting if Billy was the main character. He even says himself that he’s always had doubts about Santa and about how “Christmas doesn’t work out for him”. He learns it’s okay to trust others, starts wholeheartedly believing in Santa along with the true spirit of Christmas, and later receives a present, probably for the first time in his life based on his reaction to finding one in his house. He had more character development than the actual main character, imo.

I prefer it this way! Nice to have a movie that’s literally just about the magic of Christmas. No deeper meaning about needing to be nice or happy or rich or poor or whatever else, just “Christmas is magical and fun and everyone is invited”

Great reaction! Though I would say the conductor saying “it’s nothing I need to know” about his ticket is about belief. Belief is knowing and feeling something that does not matter or depend on the thoughts, opinions or decisions of others. So the conductor does not need to know about him being a believer, because it doesn’t mean anything to a true believer 😊

I didn't give this movie a second thought until my son turned 3 and I put it on for him. We then watched this movie the entire next year every other week or so; he was so in love with it. After watching it with him now I love it, too. Not necessarily because of the movie itself but because I got to see so much wonder and awe and joy on my son's face and experience it with him. An instant Christmas tradition for our family since. His little brother is turning 1 year old on Christmas Eve so we'll see what he thinks of it now, as well. ♡

So my relationship with this movie has always been rather mixed. And the reason for that can be pinned entirely on the motion capture animation. I have memories of seeing this movie on TV as a kid and being really unnerved at the way the faces on the characters moved. I remember trying to push through my discomfort because I thought the story was charming and fun, but in the end I just couldn't get past it, and asked my mom to put something else on. I've grown out of that phase, but it's still been a long time since I've actually watched this movie. It really is a christmas classic!

If it has already been explained, the end was him making the hole in his jacket bigger. Lol Or so I've always thought, but may not actually be the case. After looking it up, I guess the idea is that its supposed to be ambiguous if it was a dream or not. "The major plot point of the story was if the boy was going to believe in things that may or may not be true. It wasn't about whether or not the train was real, whether the experience was real or even if he met Santa Claus. It's about whether or not he is going to believe in such possibilities, evidence or no."

The train that you see in the movie is actually based off of a real steam locomotive, the Pere Marquette #1225! But the PM #1225, in real life, has a different whistle than the one you hear in the movie. Also, the serial number #1225 coincidentally happens to be a nod to 12/25, or Christmas Day abbreviated. :)

Thank you so much for reviewing this Christmas Classic. I have loved it ever since seeing it in theaters back in 2004. I love how they have the whole element of believing, or not believing with the bells ringing in some people’s ears, but not others. That was well written for sure. And yes, Tom Hanks playing maybe five different characters was interesting. Then again, so is Robin Williams voicing a couple characters in 2006’s Happy Feet. I was also surprised to find that Alan Silvestri, who did the score for Disney films like Oliver & Company, and Lilo & Stitch, also composed the score here in Polar Express. Anyway, great job yet again, and looking forward to whatever you react to next.

There isn't a single movie I watched more than this one. For real, I think I watched it a thousand times before I turned 10 (And it came out a little before I was 2.). I spent days just watching it again and again. I always loved Christmas and trains, what else could I want? It was the perfect movie for me. And don't even get me started on how this movie sounds and looks beautiful, especially for 2004! In other languages, the voice actors did an amazing job too!

Rule of thumb; if you think it's Tom Hanks, it's Tom Hanks. He's like 90% of the characters in this movie.

Also I’m SO EXCITED for your Santa clause reactionnnnnnnn(s) (are you going to do the trilogy? I think you would like all 3!) and yes I’d love to see reactions of things you’ve seen before I just really like your videos lol!

4:29 literally had the same thought right as you did, but I think it just means like the normal express train, but for them, the polar express, only they get to see and hear when they’re ‘chosen’

Interesting to note: The chief elf is voiced by Charles Fleischer (aka Roger Rabbit). Some of these actors here were involved in director Robert Zemeckis’ other work. And you can’t have a great music score without composer Alan Silverstri involved neither! But what really caught my attention was the voice of the Hero Boy. Daryl Sabara (aka Juni Cortez of Spy Kids) played him and his younger brother Evan played Lonely Boy.

I love the scene with the caribou cuz his screams sound more like kulning (herdcalling) than actual screams, which is probably why the caribou moved out of the way :)

The adult kid narrating, the conductor, the hobo, and Santa are all voicef by Tom Hanks. I believe he made this for one of his kids who loved the book

This is my favorite Christmas movie! I love trains which is a big reason I love this movie but I think how they conveyed the message was neat. Also Tom Hanks is crazy talented. And the know-it-all kid 🤦🏽‍♀️

Branson, Missouri has a train museum open to tours all year long. This time of year there is an older passenger train that comes in and is set up to give tours of the area around Branson. During evening tours this time of year it is set up as the Polar Express. Parents and children can get tickets for this ride; and are encouraged to participate in pajamas. The servers/ staff are dressed as elves, and Santa goes around to each booth for photo op's with the kids. Hot chocolate and cookies are served to the kids, and each child is given a gold ticket, and the conductor punches the initial of the childs first name in it. Throughout the ride, songs from this movie are led by the servers and a sing along is encouraged.

I heard a theory that helps explain the pocket ripping twice. The idea is that the creators made this movie to show parents when their kids were ready to stop believing. If you still believed in the magic you'd think the movie was about him going to the North Pole and meeting Santa so he would believe, but the kids who no longer believed in the magic of Christmas would notice the clock stopping at 5 seconds till midnight and the pocket ripping again when he woke up so they would see the movie as the boy dreaming he met Santa. If your child thought the movie was a dream, you would know they are ready to hear the truth about Santa.

I didn't catch this until I was older, but time stopped during their trip to the North Pole. Which is why it was 5 til 12 the whole time (And mentioned a couple times) And why the conductors stopwatch didn't have actual time. It's cool how they throw in these hints and secrets to catch.
