Charlotte is one of the best side characters.1) this is set in the 1920s so it’s great that she’s not racist 2)Charlotte only wear pink since she was a little girl so she had the dress for Tiana at the party 3) she gave up her life long dream of marrying a prince to make tiana happy. She needs more screen time even though she is on a sugar high the entire time

This movie means so much because Disney’s first black animated princess was brave, determined and didn’t need a man to save her. They worked together to break the curse. It just means a lot to a lot of black girls to see someone who looks like them. Even though Tiana was a frog for the majority of the movie, it still sends the message that hard work and determination is the real happy ending.

As a black little girl this made me feel amazing because all i saw were Caucasian princesses so i though that in order to be a princess i had to look like Cinderella, sleeping beauty and snow white. I thought i had to be caucasian and have straight hair in order to be a princess, which i now know isn’t true. Though seeing Tiana that looks like me made me realize that i could be a princess too with my chocolate skin and curly hair. Disney needs to have more representation of culture with in Disney princesses and princes. Mulan is the only asian princess, tiana only black, then we have our Indian princess( don’t know how to spell the name). And every other one is caucasian like not everyone is white Disney show that with your characters. We shouldn’t be excited to see a character that looks another race other than white. That should be a normal thing. Also the fact that they didn’t paint the her as a damsel in distress that needs saving. Shes actually independent
@blackkatt777
@blackkatt777 3 жыл бұрын
This is definitely one of my favorite Disney movies, but I agree with what a lot of people thought about how they did this movie. Tiana is the only Princess that spent over half the movie not in her own skin. She's the only one that was transformed into something else. There is serious questions as to why that is. Deduction gives us a clear reasoning of reading between the lines...especially after the comments of why they didn't expect Black Panther wouldn't hit high numbers outside of the U.S. That statement about movies starring black people, especially as superheroes, won't sell very well in Foreign countries. That myth was disproved. If Disney had used more marketing to stand behind this movie, it could have done much better. Disney has been making efforts to do better though, even if they still get it wrong. They can do a movie about princesses from other nations. Mulan was never a princess. She was a general. I get them trying to get diverse imagery in their Princess catalog, but they can go back to an impactful Dynasty of a real Princess, who did something amazing, yet underrated, in history. Brave tried to be that, but.... It was still better than some Disney originals though.

I remember when I saw Ray in the sky and it made me think, oh. Evangeline died before the movie even started. I love this movie. Beautiful animation, great soundtrack. And, as an Acadian, I love that they used "Evangeline". It's in my top 5. The fact that it's about a strong, independent woman who isn't waiting for a man/prince to come and rescue her makes me love it even more. It's the same reason I love 'Mulan'. My fav Disney musical, gotta go with a classic "The AristoCats" Side note: "Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie" is an epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1847. A tragic but fictional account of two lovers, Evangeline and Gabriel, who were separated during the expulsion of the Acadians from Acadie (present-day Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island, Canada). Evangeline spent years searching for him. She eventually settles in Philadelphia and, as an old woman, works as a 'Sister of Mercy' among the poor. While tending the dying during an epidemic she finds Gabriel among the sick, and he dies in her arms.

I adore how this movie portrays us southerners; it's one of the few that doesn't fall back on stereotypes and instead gives the viewer a true look at our culture. I also liked how they didn't make the rich family the villains or the outright jerks, but instead friends of the main character throughout the whole movie. If only more films would do this...

I’ve wanted that for a long time too. We have deep heritages and beautiful mix of different cultures that have shaped and changed traditions for generations. Almost every town, big and small, has their own histories and stories. We take the time to chat with one another quite a bit. Heck, every time my husband and I go out he always finds me talking to some stranger as if we were best friends. His favorite saying? “You makin friends again?” 😸

Princess and the frog was always one of our favorites so we imediatly thought of it. When we talked to the little ones about waching it they said they didint want to because the mane character was black, this really alaremed us so we imediality set up a day so we could watch it and talk with the girls about it, in the end they said that they didnt like the movie but through the hole thing they were smiling, laughing at the jokes and dancing to the songs so we hope that it at least left a good impact on them for them to think and for my aunt to also talk to them about these topics.

They weren't exactly trying to *mark* Dr.Facilier as the vilain, they were, but the skull on the hat is actually important. Louisiana Voodoo is heavily based on Haitian Vaudou, which was imported there from west Africa during the slave trade. The Vaudou religion (because it's an actual religion, not witchcraft as it's made to be by most mainstream media) has a whole pantheon of deites called "Lwas" or "Loas", among them is the "Baron Samedi", Patron of death, cemeteries, gravestones... And in most of his representations he has a purple, costume like, outfit, rhum, cigar, and a top hat, like Dr.Facilier. And the skull on his hat is there because a skull is what Baron Samedi actually has as a head.

You should watch the Disney Descendants trilogy. In the 3rd movie, Dr. Facilier (the evil voodoo guy) has a daughter named Celia.

Yay I love Princess and the Frog! Although I'm confused as to why Charlotte didn't turn into a frog when she kissed Naveen after midnight. Did the writers forget about how Tiana became a frog in the first place? Lol

Perhaps someone who has been a princess in the past but isn't anymore is immune. Or perhaps Tiana only turned into a frog because the spell that turned Naveen into one was so recent, whereas with Lottie it had been a few days.
