This movie is absolutely hilarious. I still can't get "Spider-Pig" out of my head, and the scene of the Simpsons trying to escape the mob is one of my favorites in cinema.

The thing about The Simpsons Movie is that with its irreverent humor throughout, it’s an animated sitcom-turned-film that doesn’t lose its step or charm. Nowadays after its 2007 release, other animated sitcoms wanted in on the action. But sadly, it couldn’t release in big box office numbers. *cough* Bob’s Burgers.

Yeah having seen the BB movie as a fan of the show I think the best review I heard for the movie put it best as a movie it’s fine it’s ok it’s mainly good if you’re a fan of the show and that’s honestly the case with the Simpsons movie too it’s good if you’re a fan but it’s also able to stand on its own 2 feet you can truly enjoy it not having seen the show and i should know as I too saw the movie before seeing the show (my mother wouldn’t let me watch the Simpsons for a long time) but now I’ve seen the movie and the show multiple times even a bit of a fanatic at this point lol

There are so many great moments, but I always appreciate the little background signs and gags as well, like the church sign saying, "Thou shalt turn off thy cell phone," or Grandpa's magazine that's titled "Oatmeal Enthusiast." One of my favorite jokes though is in the background. When the church holds the funeral for Green Day and plays "American Idiot" on the organ! Side note: Out of context, that might be the strangest sentence I've ever read.

there are honestly so many references and jokes in this movie that you could watch this over and over, and still find one that you might have missed. homer always strangles bart, bart is always a rude dude, lisa is the know-it-all, marge is the typical housewife, and maggie is the baby.

Funny how you mentioned Minions, Family Guy... The Simpsons predate all of those. As a lifelong fan (I was 5 when the show premiered in 1990), I can tell you if you enjoyed this movie, the show is even better! Seasons 1-10 are considered the golden age (if you can believe it, the show is STILL on the air at currently Season 35!) but I consider the show at it's best during Seasons 1-10, and this movie actually being a great finale. (I don't really pay attention to anything past Season 11) But it was really fun watching you, someone who's NEVER seen the show before, watch this and prove that it still holds up for new viewers!

Interesting to note: During production of this film, the president was to be depicted as George W. Bush. However, it was decided against since Matt Groening wanted this movie to feel timeless, so they went with then-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the position.

I'd personally love it if you did reactions to the show on here, but even if you don't, check it out. Just about any fans will tell you that seasons 2-8 are the best. This movie came around around the time of Season 19. The show sort of hit its stride somewhere in Season 3. I personally think Season 6 is the best, but lots of other people say 4, 7 and sometimes 5. Season 4 in particular has a lot of fan favourites that have entered meme culture (for example Clown Without Pity from Treehouse of Horror III, Marge vs the Monorail, Mr Plow...and there's even an actually decent clip show), and although it was aired in Season 5, its biggest standout (called Cape Feare) was a Season 4 holdover that is full of jokes in spite of it being about Bart being stalked by a would-be killer (Seasons 1 and 3 have episodes that built up to said confrontation).

@shyartistry I really did not like the Mike Scully era. Season 12 was okay, but Season 11 felt like the plot was always "Let's start off with something normal and then make everything crazier and crazier until Act III when everything is so insane that everyone will have forgotten how it started because the audience is stupid and just wants eye candy and nightmare fuel." I cannot point to a single episode of Season 11 that I would watch over a Golden Era episode. I don't want to see kids and sheep eating addictive substances, people planning to poison Homer or that awful tribute to hazing float Homer made. And Behind The Laughter still got squicky despite my love of the premise. Really glad the show didn't end on that note.

Judging by your opinion of the movie, you would LOVE the show! It’s just as funny but the comedy is a little more subtle, there’s a lot of heartfelt moments and the characters have more depth to them. Wouldn’t mind a reaction series to it, but even if you didn’t record it I still really hope you watch it! For me, seasons 3-8 of The Simpsons is some of the best television ever made.

So it normally went like this back in the day. Simpsons is the show you can show to older kids and most of the stuff will be fine. But they do love their random dark humor which is my favorite. King of Hill is very mild and subtle The Simpsons use to be outrageous for old folks but is not pretty tame in terms on controversy. Family Guy has the most out there media and pop takes for 1 liner jokes. South Park has the most adult theme and stories but usually more clever jokes/relevant jokes.

Great reaction, but without having watched several seasons first to get a real feel for the characters personalities both good and bad, everything is coming off harsher in this film. Like had you watched the show, you would never have classified Flanders as horrible from the little interactions here. The actual show has lots of variety depending on the episode ranging from funny, heartwarming, wholesome, horror, dark, drama and so-on. Definitely worth watching the earlier seasons.

watched this movie when it was released in theres here in sweden on 27th june 2007 same day that pokemon diamond and pearl came out that i went and bought togter with a ds on the very same day that is what this movie always makes me think of, also simpson was first so if anything family is like simposons the diffrence is family guy was fun for first few seasons then dopped hard simpsons was fun until around the time of this movie ca season 20 or so then started dropping in quality

The movie was actually the first Simpsons property I ever watched too I remember the show growing up, but I never watched it cuz I either liked more kid friendly stuff or family guy and South Park
