Another great tutorial. A game w this many cards, tokens, and mechanics can feel very daunting, but you have a way of breaking it down into easily understandable elements. The best way to learn a game is to have a friend who already knows teach you and these videos feel like that. Thanks.

I have seen Above and Below for awhile at Barnes and Noble but never really considered it. Finally watched this play through of the game and immediately went out and bought it. What a great little game! Light hearted, quick turns yet still many decision paths to take for victory. I have had it a week and played six times already. That is why I love this channel. I get exposed to a variety of games I would never consider and also see how game play works to see if I would like them before I buy. Keep up the great work!

i have just recently played this one with a variation , we just simply read out the story paragraph and not to tell the roll requirement, this way you could enjoy the story a little more, instead of only chose the option that you could actually attempt. i found that make it pretty interesting.
@WatchItPlayed9 жыл бұрын
+Suiki Yeung Interesting. What happens if a person chooses an option they have no chance of achieving?
@SKYeung-ts3vk9 жыл бұрын
+Watch It Played we are pretty much playing for the story and see how it turn out, see how one would react to the situation, would you help? Would you steal? Or would you just run away, stuff like that, of course playing it this way it's definitely not gonna help you win the game and all, but give it a try, it actually make it more fun this way I think
@JM-db8ez9 жыл бұрын
+Suiki Yeung If you're not playing to win then you may as well play Tales of the Arabian Nights. This game is still a euro game with the associated mechanics; you need to make sensible decisions for game purposes, otherwise you're not even trying. The stories can still be fun without trivializing the rest of the effort.
@WatchItPlayed9 жыл бұрын

Sorry for my english, just a question: when you gain an object from an exploring action where do you have to put it and when? @WatchItPlayed8 жыл бұрын
You can set it aside, and place it at anytime onto your player mat, when you are ready. The action you spend when gaining something for exploring, is simply the Explore action itself that you used to start the adventure.

Is the income at the end of a round per resource in that circle like victory points or is it a single amount?
@WatchItPlayed8 жыл бұрын
+HITFORDCYCLE1 The value you collect is the amount shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKixkoZnfd10Y7Mm4s - I - Let me know if there's something specific in that example that is unclear and I'll help from there. In short, the amount you gain is a single value (but it may be boosted by the effects of buildings you have constructed).

Is there a point in stacking more than one of the same good on the advancement track? For example, in your video, you have two pears stacked on the second slot. Is that different than having just one stacked? Seems like it is riskier to put two pears in that slot vs having it available to sell or trade since you cant remove things from the track?
@WatchItPlayed6 жыл бұрын
You score points for each good, so having multiple there means more points. You'll find this explained here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKixkoZnfd10Y7M Hope that helps.

Can you take a free action on the turn you pass (before passing), or are you forced to pass right away if you do not have any workers? Also can you choose to harvest a building in two actions if you wish to? (I assume you can't multi harvest multiple building in one action too, right?)
@WatchItPlayed8 жыл бұрын
+CrystalblueMage You may take a free action on the turn you pass. I'm not quite sure what you mean by your second question, but I'll take a guess. You may only harvest a single token with each Harvest action (so each harvested token will cost you one worker). Hope that helps!
@ModernGearsOfHalo8 жыл бұрын
Can you explore multiple caves a turn? Like say I have four villagers can I send two to explore them two again onto a second cave card? And also did I hear correctly that after each action you pass to the next player? So say I explore a cave, does that mean the player to my left now makes an action and I have to wait til priority comes back to me to build/train etc.

Hi Rodney! Thanks for the great videos. Just a couple questions as I foray through my own solo-two-player game: 1) do goods gained from explores (or harvests, I guess, but I'm not there yet) have to go into the advancement track immediately? You mention that the order is important but I've only got the one good and I know I can't leave a space. 2) When the original row of outposts and regular houses are gone, can they be replenished for free or does the player wishing to build have to pay to refresh in this case? Thanks again!
@WatchItPlayed6 жыл бұрын
Hey Kurisu, 1) They do not have to be placed immediately. In the examples of the video you'll see I collect goods and just set them to the side of my board. 2) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKixkoZnfd10Y7Mm38s

I hope I'm not being too pestering, but I just picked the game up and we had a question in regards to Free Actions. I understand that I can perform as many free actions as I want prior to my normal action. But can I only perform my unlimited free actions once time during the round, or, for instance, can I keep refreshing the buildings over and over again, so long as I do it prior to my normal action for the turn. Hope that makes sense.

i ran a 4-player mock up and almost ran out of mushroom tokens. what IF you run out of tokens? sorry if this has already been covered im a little late to the game :) i've watched your family and channel grow in the last month. i had no idea the adventure that was in store for me when I started your Mansions of Madness how to and watch it played.

The tokens are not limited, so you can use a suitable replacement, if you run out.

I played a two player game last night, and liked it a lot. So, I guess I would say start with one friend and build from there.

Great video. If I'm ever teaching this game to anyone I'll just link this :) Hope you might answer here even though its a 5 year old vid. While I don't remember the exact wording in the rules my group have played that you can spend a maximum of 1 potion and 1 cider. Around 1230 you talk about using potions and/or ciders and from your wording I get the impression that you could spend any amount of potions or ciders. So if you have 2 injured villagers it would be possible to get them ready for 2 potions and 2 ciders? Have I been playing this wrong for so long?

I'm afraid you have been! It'll be like playing again for the first time!

could you add the number of players (min/max) in the comment of your video's?

No plans to currently, but you will find us mention the player count in the first few sentences of every tutorial video.

You talk a lot about suitable replacements, Rodney, but we need some clarification, I think. I thought taking my husband's resources off his board so that I could have them on mine was a very suitable replacement, but, for some reason, Ben didn't agree. I mean, what could be a more suitable replacement than using the actual right tokens?! So what if they happened to belong to another player's stash, right? Yet, somehow, he didn't see it that way......
