The classic BMW onwership experience in Germany has always been to drive it hard for a max 4 years, fiddle with the odometer and sell it before it starts making the blue smoke. No point in making things like that last when they fail after it's been sold on and hence won't affect the original owners' decision to buy another. It was only a few years ago that they made it illegal to tamper with the odometer and that came after years of dogged resistance from industry and consumer advocate groups so they lease the cars now.

@@severinpridal1355 "Standard" after a bazillion hours, or something so huge the crank literally crushes the bearings to death, perhaps. 80,000 miles at 60mph is a whole 1,333 hours. Double it just for sport and it's still embarrassing...

@@severinpridal1355 Yeah I think its generally accepted practice to refresh the bearings and piston rings on a semi truck engine every million miles or so. You may let the Ninja know, should he not know this already, that there are specialty tools you can use to screw into the rods that give them handles. It makes them radically easier to work with and the ones I've seen are aluminum so you don't risk scratching the crank. My Dad has a set of them for SBCs since time began, but I'm sure you can get them in "German" as well. If he's doing a ton of bearing rolls, it would be a big hassle saver for him. It's easy enough to make your own too.

You say in the description this repair is not difficult. That is only because you have Johnny there. Imagine having to do the job at home (with a lift). It would be a lot more intense figuring out the procedure. Plus Johnny has all the fancy BMW jigs. Like the brace that holds everything up and in place when you drop the subframe. Its cheating when you have a BMW Nina Master mechanic. Its like being able to have a laptop with internet when taking the SATs. Lol
