What’s even worse is that Chevy Chase had the amazing opportunity to rescue his career when he starred in Community and he somehow screwed that up too

Yuup!! But what did he do? Act like an asshole and racist to Donald Glover. Once Donald left the show lost its spark and I fear Chevy may have been part of the reason he ultimately left which is so upsetting
@peazeralusАй бұрын
I genuinely can't imagine the show without him, though. He was 100% the weak link, but the Pierce Hawthorne character was great... Just not even close to the same level as the rest of the cast. He and Troy were originally supposed to be the Troy and Abed duo until they noticed how much synergy there was between Glover and Pudi. Getting shifted away from that and watching the rising star in Glover getting the "Donald says something funny" to cap off most scenes in the script drove him nuts. He dug his own grave with gusto.

We’d heard our parents talk about how funny it was and how in the 70’s the bars emptied on Saturday nights when SNL came on. Or if the bar had a TV it was playing SNL. (It was the 70’s and a small town, there wasn’t much to do but waste gas, make babies and go to the bar evidently 🤷♀️) I want to think of him to be sweet like Dan Akroyd but he’s just not. @daydreamcomedianne2 ай бұрын
Not necessarily feuds but after Taran Killam's contract wasn't renewed alongside Jay Pharoah's he did kind of divulge all of his feelings about the show. He was upset that his friend (and underrated castmember) Paul Brittain's half season contract didn't get renewed. He didn't like how upon Seth Meyers leaving, Michael Che and Colin Jost just did what Lorne said instead of collaborating with him. As well, he complained at how competitive and exhausting the show became upon its 40th season. And he spoke out about how Lorne made them "go easy" on Trump in 2015 before--surprise!--Lorne got Trump to host. Janeane Garofalo quit the show after only 6 months and spoke out about how it was a sexist environment, the sketches were juvenile and homophobic, and how most of the roles she was relegated to play were "girlfriend" or "wife." She said it was the most miserable experience of her life. Melissa Villaseñor also spoke out on her lack of screen time on social media during her last season. During one episode she commented "hey, where am I?" or something like that. She had been on the show for around 5 seasons, a talented impressionist and singer, and could also play weird-ass side characters (there's this sketch where Kit Harrington is doing a burlesque dance for his fiancee's bachelorette party, and Melissa's the only one into it and keeps on saying how sexy he is. At the end Kit's like "thanks, sis!"), and proved she could hold her own with her own characters. By that time it was a really large cast, but there'd be episodes where she wasn't even there but every member of the cast was. Even featured members.
@COMPFUNK22 ай бұрын
I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again… Melissa Villaseñor was on the show for six seasons and she seemed to always be relegated to featured player-type roles; she was like the new Abby Elliott (but I guess now we can also say that about Punkie Johnson). As for Paul Brittain, well, he just didn’t fit; especially that Lord Wyndemere character.

I don't know if it's Lorne, or maybe NBC, but they've seemed to have a feud with half the country, the conservative half. They could have plenty of jokes aimed both ways and still be good, but they shouldn't have this bias completely baked in. It seems like any mention of a conservative is considered a joke (whether it's funny or not). And SNL has almost always had a great weakness in not being able to know ahead of time what will be funny.
