Chuck E. Cheese Michael Madsen was the original first choice but he declined. There was also a leaked list from 1994 of Tarantino’s other casting requests for Pulp Fiction if you search for it online. He had Johnny Depp as favourite for Tim Roth’s robber role and Larry Fishburne as first choice for Samuel Jackson’s role

I could picture John Goodman doing it. But he’d seem a bit more generic as a gentle giant type character with less of the idiosyncrasies that Tom had...although that genericness could have still worked well for the film in the alternate timeline, you never know. I’d only say it’d be less believe-able when Robin Wright would be with John’s Forrest than Tom’s Forrest. Tom & Robin had chemistry and their relationship seemed surprisingly plausible on a physical & emotional level..would be hard to recreate that with a presumably less idiosyncratic love interest for Robin’s Jenny.

Travolta got it right. While Forrest Gump is regarded as one of the best films in history, Pulp Fiction is the one that most of the times lead those charts, alongside of course of The Godfather and Citizen Kane.

Ellen Burstyn turned down the role of Nurse Ratched in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and it was given to Louise Fletcher, for which she won Best Actress at the 1976 Academy Awards. I thought that should've been on the list

They clearly missed out Mel Gibson who turned down Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator for the same reason Liam Neeson turned down Abraham Lincoln: He was too old for the part. In fact, Gibson also very nearly turned down his own role of William Wallace in Braveheart, which he was directing, despite being in his early 40`s at the time. But Russell Crowe was great in Gladiator anyway and became famous thanks TO that film and an Oscar win to add to it.

Someday you should do a list of publishers who turned down what turned out to be best-selling manuscripts. It's happened a lot, sometimes piling up lengthy lists for some of the best loved books. A lot of actors have said they didn't regret turning down Oscar winning roles, but most of the publishers remained silent (Fifth Amendment?). Interesting list; thumbs up, guya!

Travolta as Gump? Chevy Chase in American Beauty?!?!? Movies just wouldn't have been the same at all!!! There are no "Oscar winning roles", only Oscar winning performances. But who knows? We've become accustomed to the Oscar winners in those roles because they worked. If Travolta did Gump, we wouldn't think of Hanks as Gump, and maybe our opinion of the movie would be different. Tom Selleck couldn't play Indiana Jones. Would "Raiders of the Lost Ark" have been worse or better if he did? It's all hindsight.

It's interesting that Tarantino is credited with reviving Travolta's career but had he taken Gump and done a good job he'd have had a massive comeback anyway. What I don't understand is that Travolta was definitely considered a has-been at the time and I don't understand why he'd have been offered the role of Forrest Gump ahead of Tom Hanks who was the hottest character acter in the world at that moment having just woman Oscar the year before. Hanks had also proved he had the emotional range needed for Gump with Philadelphia and had had hits with comedies and romance with Sleepless in Seattle. Hanks was an obvious choice Travolta would have been a fight with the studio at best.

Two things, these guys who turned down the role weren't "moments away from winning oscar gold" cause they might not have done as well as their replacements. And second Daniel Day Lewis's 3rd win wasn't record breaking, Audrey Hepburn won her 4th in 1981 with "On Golden Pond" make sure you get your facts strait before you post.

Actually, Watson was chosen to play Mia in La La Land during when she was filming Beauty and The Beast. She chose to finish Beauty and the Beast instead.

It’s not that I disagree with your pics, it’s that I disagree with your premise. A different actor in a role could resonate wholly different with audiences, and may not have garnered the Oscar at all. It’s not the role, it’s the actor.
