Really to get better, one has to move up to a San Martin Ghost Diver V3 at 200 USD, or Steinhart Ocean One 39 Ceramic at 445 Euro. So Pagani Design really can't be beaten for quality/value at under 100 USD. Regards.

@@mikearkous8379 Thank you for watching Mike. Navy blue sunburst finish (rather than lighter electric blue). In low light or indoors the dial looks fully matte black. Outdoors or in direct sunlight the sunburst finish makes the blue more reflective and metallic looking. It is an interesting dial as it fades gradually from sunburst blue to matte black. Regards.

@@mikearkous8379 I can fully confirm, what John wrote. Often, and if you do not expect and know it, it just appears all-black. When the blue shines up, it does it never in a too-light-blue-manner; always in a quite - perfect - dark. And: I cannot tell, where the border line ends / starts between the 2 colours... - VERY nice. You will not be disappointed. - Unlike the "big" San Martin MOP aka Mother of Pearls; available in a similar BnBlue-Combi OR with a black dial. This BnBlue is too light, too shiny for me. The black option is mine now; like a super-quality-Pagani 1639 with a 22to18mm-bracelet in HQ. For me better than the 017 V.3 or 019 V.1 - Regards, Achim

Thanks for the excellent review, John. Clearly, Pagani are steadily improving on the quality of their pieces, the improved Cyclops magnifier and the graduated blue dial really make this piece stand out. At this price point, I really can’t see how they can be beaten. Regards

I was just comparing my Submariner Date with it, and I think the cyclops might actually be 3x magnification; as it magnifies the numerals even larger than the 2.5x magnification Rolex use. This is one negative of the Steinhart Ocean One I would like to see them improve, as they use a 1.5x magnification cyclops. The only negative Pagani Design really need to improve is the bezel backplay. It's a relatively easy problem to solve by tightening the angles of the bezel retaining spring. I have done this on Vostok Amphibia's that had loose bezel action to increase the friction between the retaining spring and case. Overall it's a good watch for 95 USD. Regards.

Liked your review so much I've been and gone and ordered another Pagani Design watch, the PD1661 to go with my PD1651 and PD1662 to make up the trio of PD Explorers. (Can't count the Benyar Explorer.) That makes 10 Pagani Design watches. Just wish Pagani Design had done the Explorer Homage. Can't abide deceit with the Alloy case. JANBOY. RN. Rtd.

I just received mine and it’s a very fine watch but the end of my crown is whitish like MOP with a plated Pagani emblem. Is that correct or did the plating come of with the blue tape? Thank you for your time and assistance.

Pagani Design changed the PD-1661 crowns. The earlier versions had a domed silver cap which was mirror polished. The later versions have a matte bead blasted effect to the base, and the PG emblem is embossed and mirror polished. They also made the crown larger. It may look plated, but the crown is entirely solid stainless steel. Regards, #WR4K
