I expect the Chanel limit she is referring to is that Chanel now has a general policy of not selling two bags to the same person in less than 60 days. When I got my two Gabrielle bags (about a month apart), the SA had to get permission from the store manager - but as the bags were discontinued, and not something resellers target (and its pretty obvious I'm not a reseller) they agreed to waive the limit.

Sometimes I long for those old Hermes days. I was too (a few years ago) able to just walk in and order a 'a la carte' Kelly 32 with NO purchase history in that particular boutique. I will always cherish this bag 🥰

In 1998 I walked into an HERMES store in Chicago on Oak street to buy a black kelly. Back then it was on the shelf. They brought one out to show me and opened the box with white gloves. At the time it was $5k. I was prepared to pay $3.5k. I had sticker shock at $5k because I was getting married. So I didn’t buy it.

If Hermes offered bags in the way Beanie Babies did at the end and caused their downfall by being overly available, Hermes would no longer be luxury. I understand Hermes’ way of doing things, but I don’t have the urge to spend that type of $ on a bag when I can get the same cow leather on my arm with a micro designer who is hungry, offering quality in their product.

As someone who did not grow up in Paris/ France, and did not grow up around luxury (eg. my grandmother/ mother does NOT have a purchase history) - I do not have the energy to play this Hermes game for the miniscule chance that the Hermes gods will (only maybe) one day bless me with a chance to get a bag. I will continue admiring from afar, and maybe (one day) buy from a reseller.

If customers must drop thousands of dollars before a business lets them buy a bag, why isn't this extortion in the USA? Certainly, it would be easy to prove by finding customers who will talk, or sending in undercover agents to pose as customers who collect the evidence. It would take time, but not as difficult to establish as the attorney seems to believe.

Claire is telling the truth about Chanel playing the Hermes game. In June, I wanted to purchase my first Chanel bag, a black jumbo caviar double flap, and I went to five boutiques and nobody hade it; REALLY!!!! I have since purchased two trendy CC, a dress, and a pair of earrings, and now even if I were "offered" a jumbo I cant/wont buy it in good continuous.

Jumbos are not as expensive on the resale websites as they were last year, since mini-sizes are the trend. You can easily buy a used bag in excellent condition for much less than if you bought it new. Go to the well-known sites. Too bad you gave a brand your money who lied to you and gave you the runaround!

@@debraturner4559 I've been looking in the preloved market for the jumbo, and when I find the perfect one I'll pounce. In regards to giving a brand my money that gave me the runaround, that was my point of the comment, as lovers of Hermès do it everyday. When you want something you will jump through hoops to get it. In my case, I have a wishlist and at the top is my jumbo. And I would probably still be willing to jump, if it were not for the price increase in July. It left a bad taste in my mouth; so for that bag, they can keep it and the high price, and they can also keep their childish hide-and-go seek games.

Great video! The mini bag trend is at its peak now. After the pandemic, when we can all move about again and travel, we’ll want bigger bags again. There are so many cute mini bags, but the mini Kelly is not one of them, tbh. The design doesn’t lend itself to the tiny size. It always looks like a child’s or doll’s bag to me…like you’re pretending to be a grownup with it. Other brands have much better mini bags.

it was neither LV nor Hermès. It was a regular shop ind Gstaad and the handbag was Tom Ford, clearly not to be found at Hermès. There was another accident with LV in Italy, too.
