OMG!!! I needed to have been on this live! This is what I've been saying! I started working in fashion/retail at 16(1991) and Coach was my intra. By 22(1997) I started my career as a stylist and LV and YSL were my everything! I was selling Chanel to all my 40-50 year old clients and the only clients I had wearing Hermes were clients over 60. These were designers I aspired to one day acquire, and now that I am soon to be 46 I am now just starting my Chanel "journey". I'm a little conflicted as to whether or not I should've started purchasing Chanel and Hermes back in the 90's as they were considerably cheaper; however I wasn't in the right frame of mind to truly appreciate the classic simplicity of those designers back then. Not to mention, "cheaper" is all relative, as I thought $1500 in 1997 was too much to spend on a Chanel Jumbo, silly me! Although I am now in the financial position to purchase a Jumbo for $8500, I no longer feel is worth it. I absolutely agree with you Dacob, that when you start purchasing this level of luxury this young you have nothing to look forward to.

It’s not this way anymore. People can own and wear Birkins in their 20s and 30s as well. I’m 30 and wearing them as well. I respect your opinion but the time is over where Chanel and Hermès have been “old ladies” brands. But I’m happy for you, that you start your Chanel Journey now! ☺️

Hermes is not fun it’s just quality. to me, it seems that young people in 2020ies dress very plain, kind of like prisoners in monochrome tracksuits. must be the corona. in your 20ies you need a bag you can take to the club an spill a drink on and kebab sauce at 4am.

I just got the notification for this video and was so shocked and watching half now but I just wanted to state I’m 24, and the overall sense of the video was not really to give one bag fits all I say at the beginning that everyone can think of their perfect bag for them according to their likings, Then I just wanted to clarify that the comment about the boyfriend date, i was joking I sometimes do that on my channel, and as for throwing around a bag I promise I love and appreciate every bag I have and care for them. And for last I agree and I’m happy to see everyone’s opinions, but the comments about my upbringing and money are very far off from the reality, I would normally not comment or reply on a video like this but I can’t help but feel like I need to at least say it. I work, and I work a lot, I value everything I have and I don’t take expensive bags as “anything”. I can honestly say that being closer to Dakob's age, I shared some of his views when I first was recommended your channel. Having a Birkin and a Kelly at the age of 24 is obviously a blessing that most do not experience. After getting into more of your content I can honestly say that your personality shone through and won me over. You seem so sweet and genuine in all of your videos and seem to value everything that you have. To be fair, Dakob is only reacting to this one video so I can see how out of context it came across as "out of touch". For what it's worth, IMHO, if you are clicking on a luxury channel for bag recommendations you should be expecting for people to talk about chanel, hermes and louis vuitton 🤷🏾♀️. I watched your original video prior to this one and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have watched Lou in the past and she seems like a nice, genuine, sweet girl. But unlike Lou, I had my 1st luxury bag, an LV speedy 25, when I was 40. She is the age of my 2nd child (26) and her only luxury bag is my hand me down old balenciaga. I am now 53 and it took me 13 years to afford buying my holy grail Hermes bag. Lou’s fast-paced bag journey is so different from mine that I definitely cannot relate. Haha. So I just stopped watching her channel and moved on to other luxury youtubers I can relate more. What I don’t understand is that she said she now buys birkin/Kelly/chanel with her own income. For someone who is still at college ( if I am not mistaken), what kind of 9-5 office job she mentioned can pay her well enough so she can SAVE to buy the $10k+ Birkin and Kelly? She said she is cautious about money because of her personal experience in the past. How much does a college girl need to earn to be able to feel cautious about finance AND buy 10k+ bag then? It doesn’t add up...

There are WAY too many people here in the comments who clearly can not discern the difference between scrutinizing someone's content and outright attacking them. If you feel offended, then maybe you should ask yourself why? I implore you all to watch the video again, in its entirety and more of Dacob's channel, for that matter. You will quickly realize that all of his videos are thoughtfully laid out and delivered eloquently and educationally. He is constantly inspiring me to learn more about these brands and their history. More importantly, he makes me love and appreciate the items I already own in my collection rather than making me feel I need more and more and more. A lot of these so-called "influencers" content should be analyzed and dissected in my opinion, because many of them are putting out false information or are causing our youth to believe that they need these bags to "fit in." Ironically enough, Lou is considered part of the youth of today by definition. At the age of 24, her prefrontal cortex has yet to fully develop. She is making a video on bags that she no doubt loves, but doesn't seem to know very much about. Calling a well-respected brand like Bottega Veneta, "basic" and a beautiful vintage Chanel bag "old" and caring less for it did it for me. It’s important for people to understand that just because you have the funds to buy these things doesn't make you an authority on them. I have no issue with her alleged family wealth or how she spends the money she earns. I do, however, quickly lose interest in creators who contradict themselves. Just a little over a year ago, she said she considered herself too young to have an Hermés bag and that she was too scared to own one, but now, she has not one but two. I am not condemning her for it at all, I am actually happy for her! I only wish that she would have remained consistent and true to herself. I can't help but feel that this is just another case of a creator who is buying "it bags" they see on social media to fit the luxury "mold" and fill their bag display in effort to be more marketable on the gram. That in and of itself is a huge issue right now. In general, our society and social media are constantly rewarding our culture's "worst" merrits-materialism, vanity, narcissism, and greed. We should strive to have a more critical eye for how these things are produced repeatedly and what sort of cultural impact they have on our future generations and the future of fashion itself.

I think also her opinions changing in a year could just simply be from getting older...I am 33, and my opinions now tend to be more solid (unless I learn new information that causes me to have a different viewpoint), but I can recall when I was in my 20s some things I believed whole-heartedly when I was 22 (for example) I would have the complete opposite opinion by the time I was 23. She's still growing up, learning, having new life experiences, etc and her opinions could very well just naturally be changing. But perhaps you are also right, and she is being influenced by social media. It is really hard not to be, and she is definitely in that social media influencer world whether she wants to be or not.

Dacob I usually agree with you but I’ve watched this girl and she clearly comes from money but that doesn’t invalidate her opinions on luxury handbags just because she didn’t have to climb the ladder for each one. If anything a large percentage luxury handbag consumers are people who were born into money already. 🤷🏼♀️ I think discussing any “cheaper” option in the Luxury community will always be touchy since nothing designer is truly cheap but she’s speaking from her perspective!

Yeah but i think Dacobs point is that if you are going to make a video advising people about the five essential luxury handbags, saying handbags are your "passion" and you call bottega venetta basic, then you clearly dont know anything about handbags. The craftsman ship on those bottega bags are pretty complex. She basically doesnt know about this history of the handbags that she is talking about. She has literally no perspective. How can she give advice about how to spend thousands of dollars/pounds on bags? A lot of the criticism Dacob gave was about the video on the content and her trying to come off as some sort of "expert" telling us what/how to spend our money, not on Lou the person.

I have a speedy 25 bandouliere empreinte in infini and I absolutely love it. I don't baby it at all and it wears so well. My every day bag. It seems they don't really make it in the empreinte anymore so it has to be bought pre loved. There is the older version full monogram and the newer version with the outside pocket. Lou started at the top with her bags. When I was n college, I could barely afford food. Ate one meal a day. Designer bags were not on my radar. Not that I can afford them, the prices of Chanel and the Birkin and Kelly put me off. My favorite everyday bag is the Speedy 30 in DE. I also really like the Neo Noe, plus my Coach and Strathberry bags. I also have higher end bags, but the ones I wear the most are not the most expensive. Lou claims not to have money, but she as an aspiring Olympic level sailor in college. This sport is NOT cheap.

P.S. I think in the 90's Coach was considered higher end. I love my 90's bags.. The leather seemed higher quality then also. On the basis of inflation, Coach bags are cheaper how. They are coming back, but are still not at the 90's level.

I’m kicking myself for not buying it but I didn’t have the money to at the time I think if you stay at home and don’t move out and get your own place super young that helps as you may only have to pay your parents some rent which is nothing compared to what you have to pay when it’s your own place and then the rest of your money is yours to do what you want with 🤷🏼♀️ my bro is 24 still lives at home 🏠 don’t blame him tbh and he has disposable income to buy designer sweaters etc and fair enough coz it won’t always be that way unless you get good paid job and save, save, save for each item you want which takes longer but u get there in the end! I’m a vampire as well Dacob 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have an 11 year old daughter and when she starts working if she wants to buy designer bags… fair enough but I would say to her don’t buy bag like Hermes or that price range as it’s a ridiculous price point, wait until you’re older and you will appreciate it more but also spend your money on life experiences at that age the bags etc will still be there, your youth won’t be! a good analysis Dacob, although I do think Lou has a high appreciation for her bags and I believe that she simply loves fashion from a young age. I can relate to this aspect of her because I have loved fashion since i was born!! Although I started buying LUXURY fashion when I was 18, I am now 25, but the most I have spent on a singular piece is still ("""only""") $4000 AUD, so where I lose touch with Lou is the fact that we are both born in 1996, but she is spending upward of 6000-13000 like its nothing. I love this video! While I love Lou and all, it’s good to dissect because we all have our opinions. Lou is also very young…and she likes to state her upbringing is diff etc. I mean, she is very privileged (even if she works for it as she can afford all that, she def stated her parents help her). Nothing to be ashamed of. But not everyone can afford it. However it makes her happy and if she can, why not?

U haven’t? Gosh u can get them in most department stores like Selfridges, Harrods etc but I don’t know if they sell them where you are as I’m not sure how world wide she is

She is a British designer. Carrie Bradshaw famously had her wedding dress designed by Vivienne Westwood in Sex and the City. Very famous lady. They likely sell her items at other luxury department stores and boutiques in the US.

Like you, I find it so unfortunate and tedious that calm analysis and opinion giving is seized upon as meanness. A lot of people simply can't take anything deeper than a smiley emoji or gushy endorsement. As for this person's video, it holds nothing of interest or amusement for me; and I continue to be staggered by how anyone can bear a even one more mention of the same brands and same bags. It's one person after another following the same narrative. I've learned a lot over the past few years about dozens of other design houses, past and present, and it's so enjoyable to find some really lovely designer bags preloved/second hand online at unbelievable prices. Fine craftsmanship, materials and design, usually made in France or Italy. The fact that they sell so cheaply is no reflection on quality. It's just an indication of how many people want the same thing as everyone else, so a handful of bags can demand sky-high prices. Not this gal! Keep up the intelligent and forensic work, Dacob. It's needed more than ever.

Have to check out Vivienne Westwood's bags - in the 90s, I read a lot about her on fashion magazines (Yes, I'm also part of the vampire crew 😉😂!), and she had a very interesting style!

I do get Lou's point of view, but I do not agree with logo-covered work bags. They are unprofessional for most of the jobs I can think about, especially the public - related ones. There are some places where yes it is ok to look like a fashionista, but any blunt "wealth statement" would be out of place.

I’m just commenting because when I think of a luxury cute fun bag I think of the LV Carrot Pouch. I want it xD it doesn’t fit shit and I don’t have money cus I’m a broke student but I don’t care I WANT IT I can imagine myself walking down the street with that on my hand, going to a wedding with that as a pouch UFFFFFF I LOVE IT it’s just so fun to me.

Its all about in what kind of family values you grow up. I dont care how much money you have, you teach your child money value and humility. I would buy my child expensive things, but i would make sure that she or he would know the value of the items, would know how to appreciate them, and would be the most humble and understanding person in the world! Have a blessed day, Dacob 🙏💕

Great choices and yes, everyone should carry a foldable shopper in their smaller or medium day bag. I’d add in a good weekend bag but I don’t know about a luxury branded one unless you’re just travelling by car. The size of the LV Keepall Bandoulière is great but I personally prefer a non designer, beautiful leather piece or a tough, reinforced nylon one by a luggage brand if planes or trains are involved.

Dacob is the only one really dissecting these luxy-influencsters on youtube who is really knowledgeable on fashion and design. he is not hating, it is just being reflective and critical. most of these influencsters buy designer and think now they have style. they have a bag for 5k$+ but they confuse one basic concept: you can buy fashion, but not style. these people, unlike Dacob, have no style, just money to buy stuff. please keep educating the public. i‘m sick of seeing fashion but no style.

I am not mean. I am honestly analytical. There is no place on my channel for public relations and their sneaky “all is fine and fantastic” ways. We as a society are unlearning the difference between analysis and attack. We are going through an artificially created “woke” period in our society where propaganda and marketing are brainwashing people to lose their critical analytical skills for the sake of major corporations dominating the market. So we are now being taught that having analytical skills equals being mean. This is how Orwell’s “1984” book begins... 🤷🏻♂️

Just curious how you know she works hard? Do you personally know her? Someone mentioned she is a billionaire heiress ??- if this is true then much like Paris Hilton who also is a billionaire heiress - she had a bougie name, lux items to flex and we were all so curious to see her beautiful things and her sheltered ways …so she took that and she worked hard but not as hard as the average person who comes from nothing will have to…Wealthy people have the advantage of already having nice things, already being part of society, having connections - they could still not work hard and ruin all that so something to be said for those who take it and continue building fortune. To me that’s not hard work… true hard work comes from someone who builds that from nothing….anyway just my humble opinion - no hate to this girl whatsoever….and if I had a dollar for every time I heard a rich people say I’m not rich 🙄 - it’s like really? That comment borders on ungrateful and out of touch with reality!
