2:24.. mind.. blown! Limiting tasks to five. I felt unaccomplished because I have decluttered, scheduled and have been writing things down.. but ENTIRELY TOO MUCH to accomplish.. so when things didn't get complete, even if just one.. I felt unaccomplished and overwhelmed.. I did not prioritize importance either.. and my schedule was unrealistic.. writing the exact time it takes to drive to work instead of including the time it takes to walk to the car and so on..

Okay, I get that this could be productive, but honestly, who wants to live like this? Planning every minute of your day and knowing exactly how the day is gonna go? I find it incredibly boring and think it could become quite unhealthy to be frank. Exceptions and surprises happen throughout the day. What are you gonna do if you fail to manage the time like you planned it? I've struggled with eating disorders and so writing down calories and what I ate and how much I exercised became an obsession. I wanted to rule my day, make the most out of every moment, not waste a minute. It became a mental prison and I felt extreme guilt and anxiety when I, for example, ate food I considered to be "wrong." Eventually, the anxiety and guilt became constant. Nowadays, I try to take things as they come and I don't strive to control my life or my body. I think this kind of thinking and action you're promoting could easily take over someone's mind. I think there needs to be a middle ground, and this - to me at least - seems like obsessive compulsive behavior. I say prioritize what you love and strive for, have some fun in the midst of it all, learn to relax but also concentrate and work when work needs to be done.

+Lilli Levonperä Interesting points, I feel ya. I'm a B student in university and completely terrible with time management. The difference I noticed between B students and A students is exactly the woes you're speaking of. They are machines! (And I mean, credit to them, they're incredible at what they do) but I sense a loss of self in some of them, like their lost in the process and some have become very boring individuals. Despite this, I hope I can achieve a fraction of their time management to become even better at my craft. As I attempt this, I'll keep your words in mind.

Great video....very easy to follow! You can’t manage time. It’s that simple. There is no such thing as managing time. Time is a limited resource. What we can do is find out where we are allowing time suckers and wasters to use up this limited resource in an unproductive manner. This is more self-management than time-management. I bet right now we can write down at least five activities that you do each day that are unproductive and can be classed as Time Wasters.

I feel as if there is much more to time management than documenting what how you're wasting your time. Yes, it's apparent that people waste time all the time.. I think it's impossible to have a whole day go by that you haven't wasted some of it. If one has poor time management skills, it's going to be tough for them to have the motivation to analyze every task of the day. Now I do agree that good time management relates to prioritizing. When in school, rather than business, prioritizing is key because there are many expectations of students and the students must establish priority. It's important to be realistic when it comes to time management. We aren't robots who are going to live with perfect time management every single day, but it is important to develop good habits. Being that I am still in college, it's important to establish good habits with time management in order for them to follow over to my work career. The video has great ideas, but I feel as if it's deeper than this. There are more aspects of time management that are important but not touched on here.
@nanaof3991

It is deeper. I went from being full of energy, multi-tasker, conquer the world kind of girl before my mid-30's. A lot began happening in my life that affected me emotionally, like depression. Many more years later, I can barely tie my shoes. I've been in an abusive marriage 21 years, divorcing for last 2 years, and have been through unimaginable things during the 2 years...all I'm saying is I can't manage to be on time for a simple appointment and I agree that it goes deeper. This affects my happiness, psychological well-being. Good luck in life. Stay on target.

One thing that bothers me though, is that sometimes that "wasted time" is necessary, like just having a short conversation, or staring into space. You can't always be doing doing doing! Sometimes you need "unproductive" time, and sometimes that time will even help you perform better in the end. Any thoughts?

I totally agree with you Judy. I myself do the same thing easier said than doing.

(1) Don't limit the number of things on your list to five. Write down whatever you think of that you need to get done. Then just do the most important things, and what you have the energy to do, and can feasibly get done. (2) Before you can make an analysis of your time spent you need to have some overall goal in mind. Four hours spent cleaning the house might sound more productive than four hours watching TV, but only if you value a clean house more than whatever TV you watched.

Steven Covey of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective people sums it up perfectly with, "Put first things first." What's harder is on my to days off when I have projects I COULD be working but find myself here typing this right now... talk about irony.
