I see this all the time in water crossing videos that people are walking straight across. A safer way, especially if the water is flowing faster, is to face upstream and side step. This way, the water flows around each leg, like the front of your leg & knees create a hydrofoil, rather than pushing your legs to the side and out from under you. Learned this during formal "river crossing training".

Love this and can't wait to use it. I remind my friends to unbuckle during water crossings so their pack doesn't drown them if they fall.

I’ve met you there! I was surprised to see another hiker in the wilderness in that weather! We were both rushing to get to the campsite before sunset… but in opposite directions. I finished my thru-hike on Sept. 23rd on Katahdin. Stay strong!

Red squirrels are so noisy and so territorial! JoMary road and Katahdin Ironworks road are both good for trail magic. In the old days of the HMW, more of the logging roads were closed but now there's a little more public access. I am confused about the time line a little because Cody had a video he posted with a lot of road walking but I might have missed that on yours? Totally fair, and "allowed" to go around for unsafe trail conditions.

Great video of the water crossings. Glad you all are having fun despite the rain, mud and high water. Awesome trail magic! One of the many things that are great about the A.T. and general hiking community is how varied the ages are from young to old. With older ones often doing trail magic for younger hikers.

I tried to get you and Cody to enjoy Potaywadjo Spring two years ago on your previous hike, but the two of you decided to keep moving on. I’m glad to see you stopped for it on this trip. Best of luck on what little bit is left for you!-Braveheart

Best water on the Trail, cold enough to freeze your teeth. I still remember that spring.❤️

You both seem to be in good spirits . Maine seems ti have a lot of the more challenging water crossing than other states , am I incorrect on this view? Keep going. 😊

Just live your videos. The amount of water crossings you had to do was incredible. At least you had Sun and trail magic. Well done. Thanks for letting hike with you 😊

The shoes you have now are my absolute favorites of your entire thru-hike. I'm sorta glad you accidentally left your other ones at the hostel. That may have been a subliminal cry for help cuz they were hurting your feet so much. Coincidence? I think not! Ha Ha. 😂 Anyway, love the cool, black hiking shoes with square toe boxes. P.S. Cody is awesome. So happy you guys are having a reunion hike! 👏🎒😎 They should nickname the 100 Mile Wilderness, "The Waterpark". Amirite?! Daaaang! 💦💦💦💦🤿💦💦💦💦 Loving the natural wonder, though. It is absolutely gorgeous to see and that's just on camera! I can imagine the sensory overload is amazing - esp. the smells of the forest during the rain. Yummy!!! 🌿💧💚

That trail magic had to be somewhat reviving! A couple in their seventies were lost here in the forest for a few days here in Indiana over the weekend. I wonder if you ever get nervous about staying on trail? About 50 % of the time I have to backtrack because I missed a turn and that’s Not on the AT 😂

I do not understand how you can butt scoot on a log like that. You literally have to lift yourself and your pack to move forward, over and over. And if you run into branch stubs, ouch! I tried it once, realized it would not work for me.
