Just bypass the drain hose. Cut and tie into the passenger and driver sides drain hose and tie it into the ac drain hose under the passenger carpet. Then all pf it will be new hose and drain out were the ac line already comes out the bottom of the car instead

Thanks for the video. I have had my 2017 QX70 since may of 2018. The vehicle now has 61,477 miles and about 2 weeks ago my back up camera and sonar stopped working. The camera button on my radio would not activate the camera whatsoever. I did a self diagnoses and it was showing there was a failure with the control unit (ECM). After researching what all the control unit does, the all around view and sonar was controlled by it. Took it to passport Infiniti and after 2 diagnoses they determined both sun roof drain plugs were clogged and it routed the water under my carpet and that’s what damaged the control unit. And of course it’s not covered under warranty. The really weird part of this is that my car never smelled of mold or mildew. The vehicle is paid for but hearing you say it’s a common Infiniti issue is a bit disheartening. I’m not trying to deal with this problem again. Anyway thanks for the video.

I bought an 11 FX50 last year and have had an awful time tracking down a water leak. Thanks to your video I learned a lot more about the drains on these cars and how many of them there really are! My sunroof drains are clear, which is good news. The bad news is I've traced the leak back to the AC system, it is the condensation that comes from the evaporator and is supposed to drain out of the HVAC box and into the rubber hose out the front passenger foot well. My mechanic blew the AC drain hose out with compressed air and said there was gunk in there and some water came out, but I'm still having the issue. Water builds up on the driver's footwell. I'm wondering if there is a crack in the hvac box (seemingly unlikely, how would that happen), or maybe the AC drain hose is cracked/leaking or loose at the connection point with the hvac box. I'm hoping I can get this issue resolved by this summer, it has really put a strain on my relationship with this car. I'm scared it will require the dashboard to come out, which is not cheap.
@EdBwoy2 жыл бұрын
Dang, I missed these comments. How was your experience this summer? I came to learn of another possibility with the sunroof drains, whereby the plastic fitting becomes loose and allows water to leak by at the firewall
@Fordguy19972 жыл бұрын
@@EdBwoy I ended up putting off the investigation and repairs, since my mechanic was busy and I am kinda scared to take it into the dealership with an open-ended issue like this. I drove the car on cooler days and some nights, and did not use the AC for the whole summer, instead relying on my G35 for AC duties. Despite this fact, I have just recently started noticing again a lot of condensation on the inside of the windshield starting in the evenings as the temperatures start to drop. There is no standing water under the carpets like there was last year (resulting from the ac, in my estimation). However I did notice on TOP of my front passenger floor mat there was considerable dampness. So now I am really not sure what to do. Perhaps I have multiple leaks going on at the same time? Or maybe I misdiagnosed the original issue. I don't know. I can try checking if the sunroof drains are loose like you said - I tested them last year and they were draining fine. Maybe I will also remove the glovebox and try pouring water over the windshield cowl to see if it is dripping inside.
@Fordguy19972 жыл бұрын
@@EdBwoy Just to update you, I think I have figured out and fixed the leak. The rubber grommet for the AC lines that run through the firewall to the evaporator was all deteriorated and had extra room for water to get in. Essentially water from the middle of the windshield cowl would drip down onto those metal AC lines and gravity would take it down to the rubber grommet in the firewall, and it would leak through there. Instead of replacing the grommet, I simply caked it with severe temperature silicone sealant to fill in all the gaps and I'm not getting condensation on the inside of the windshield anymore. I also applied silicone around the edges of the plastic sunroof drains for good measure

You are awesome my man!! Thank you so much! My 2016 Infiniti QX70S started this shit I thought after I had the battery replaced (I've read so many posts about this being an issue involving the cowl seal needing replacement after replacing the battery). I had my mechanic check it out and he literally asked where I'd had the battery replaced as it looked like there were pieces missing, irony there I had it replaced at another shop recommended by them...🤬. Anyways in the end he ended up patching some shit up and the water has stopped coming down through the cowl firewall area in the passenger side, But I still get all this liquid building up on the inside of the windshield constantly now on both sides. Ack!! I was starting to think that maybe the rubber seal at the top of the windshield had/has rotted out. The car has not been driven that much in the last few years since I started working from home. But I'm going to look into the sunroof tubes as you showed so well and awesomely!! Just wanted to say thanks man! There is a huge freaking oak tree above my house and driveway where my SUV is parked. I can totally believe from how often I have to constantly dig all kinds of shit out at the bottom of the windshield and the top of the vehicle itself and beyond, that I need to unplug these drain tubes as well. Ack most expensive vehicle I've ever bought (obviously 5+ yrs ago now), and only has 37K miles on it. Maybe time to trade it in...and NEVER, EVER buy an Infiniti AGAIN!! 😜 THANKS AGAIN!! :)

At first I suspected that water was getting in through the grommet for the engine harness since the sunroof drain dumps right over it. It's been through rains, carwashed, buckets of water to the roof, windshield, and even directly over the cowl ...but I still can't get water to leak into the vehicle. Great video Ed- thank you! Man I would love it if you showed the driver side drain system like you mentioned at the end of your video. My 2011 FX35 has been plagued by sunroof drain clogs for years. Unfortunately I have to park outdoors under a nasty oak tree so the source of the offending gook is no mystery. I learned years ago how to unclog them since a dealer had charged me a fortune the first time. Basically I just put a funnel to the drain inlet in the sunroof track and pour in near boiling water. If necessary I follow up with very light air pressure...no more than about 20 psi. This has worked great until now. But what I have this time is a weird in-between issue. When I pour in the water most of it drains nicely to the ground as it should. But some is now leaking to the driver side floor at the same time. I've re-treated now several times with the hot water, but clearly there is something partially detached. I haven't taken things apart under the hood yet, but your video did give me an idea what to look for. My other project is leaking skylights on my house...man whoever thought windows on a car or house roof was a good idea!? ;)
@EdBwoy2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I had to chuckle at the end there. I love skylights, but find sunroofs useless for me. So over time, I learned that other people might have issues like you described because the plastic fitting at the firewall doesn't fit the hose as securely as they could. So water ends up leaking by at the fitting. Unfortunately I have not had to do it to mine, so I don't know how accessible they are from the inside without removing the dashboard.
