I think I can make the job way easier. I bought a small coil of 3/16" ID polyethylene tubing from Lowes for about $6.00. I fed this tubing through the hole for the sunroof drain (at the corner of the sunroof)and slid it through until it hit the fitting at the firewall. It slides easily through the existing tubing and will clear any debris. No need to touch anything in the interior. Hope this helps someone. Great, informative video. Will help if something is wrong with the existing drain tube.

There's a simpler method: Cut length of string trimmer cord to a length long enough to reach from the forward corner of the sun roof drain opening, to the firewall. Insert the trimmer cord into the sun roof drain, and fish it down to the outlet near the firewall, thereby forcing the blockage out the end of the drain. Be sure to expose the end of the drain at the firewall for visual confimation the cord reached the end of the drain. Then, pour water in the drain area on the roof, and verify it weeps out the firewall. No disassembly required.

That drain has a piece of plastic at the very end that gets clogged and causes the issue. All your solution is doing is pushing the bullshit with a snake down to the cap that is causing the problem.
@seobarrios4810 Жыл бұрын
as a person who fixes these alot its not needed to take your car apart like that this is pretty stright forward you remove the tab from the garment make sure your seal is good (blk ring around the garment ) place with arrow looking up and thats it . this issue doesnt start from the top of the sunroof its the bottom (garment ) also another key thing is clean the actual whole line and also clean the edge of the entrance hole where the water goes in to the drain plug . if anyone has questions about this feel free to reach out

Interesting you recently commented. If you would advise best way to do it, I'd appreciate it. I was thinking I need to get hose that would fit and use air compressor with nozzle tip and nit have it be too strong? What's best way to even find it? Thanks

Just a thought, having seen that the clog is on the drain device, in the older models people used to remove it so that the drain tube is an open tube to the outside. I don't want to do it myself, but it has crossed my mind about attacking it from the engine bay and just cutting out that plastic strainer.

Brilliant video! This is usually an issue for Infinitis. Dirt and debris increases the chances of this, especially for some of us that like to walnut blast our engine components 😋

I use weed walker plastic string and push it down. Air can sometimes disconnect the tube from the connections. Ask me how I know. Use a dehumidifier in the car while you’re not using it to dry the water out of the carpets, etc..

Glassic infiniti leak . My 2012 g37 sedan flooded . Pulled the drain plugs, both were clogged. Ordered new ones because the gaskets were rotted out. I cut the little baffles off and installed an extension drain tube on the new ones . It fixed the problem o, and in some cases, you need to pull the carpet up and remove the Styrofoam to get all the water out . If not, you'll never get rid of the smell, and mold will grow . I also clean my drains every 6 months with drain cleaner from Amazon. I've also used drain cleaner on other people's drains, and it works great . I didn't have to remove anything.
@craigb38542 жыл бұрын
My M35x also leaked - both sides - and I was able to clear the blockage. I had to lift up the carpet and pull the foam packing that is installed under the carpet near the door sill. When I lifted the foam up to remove it from the car, water ran out of it, so someone doing this fix might need to do the same thing. Desiccants won’t dry those out. They need to be removed from the car to dry. Otherwise the damp, musty smell stays in the car.

Good point. I had to do that for my FX because of where the leak was coming from, and how much had leaked. I was lucky to have caught this early on, thankfully.

THAT particular leak from the infiniti came from the sunroof trough getting overfilled. It's ultimately the same issue, the stupid ass beveal on the firewall cap, but if the A Pillar is soaked, the cap is clogged, or the entry holes could be clogged. God bless you if it's the cap which is the most likely. That spot to retrieve the cap is absolutely not well thought out in cars the dealership has KNOWN to have leaks since at LEAST 2006 is the earliest video I could find. Ridiculous that this issue is so common, and doesn't qualify for a factory recall. Luxury cars my ass.

Man, you made the removal of that card holder above the sun visor look so easy! I've been working on the one on the driver's side of my 2007 FX35 for over an hour and it will not come out! The two clips in the front go into some metal hole that holds the headliner up and they won't budge. The two in the back just hold the plastic and not the headliner. How did you get that card holder out so easily??

😮 I’m keeping an eye this rain season on my Q50 and FX50. My previous car, a ‘08 BMW 335, had clogged sunroof drains. I tried all kinds of wires, no luck. My gf suggested Drano. It worked in 5-10min 😅
@EdBwoy2 жыл бұрын
This gives me an idea for an experiment. I know the draino will break down the organic matter, but I'd like to see how it affects the tube itself
@Chubbza5 Жыл бұрын
Bro those bmws get clogged because bmw blocked the exit of the tube with plastic panels under the car. It's a factory blockage, draino would only melt the shit in the hose not fix the problem. Lol. Hope you sold that one.
@RebBoySF Жыл бұрын
Used drano like four times in the 9 years I had that BMW 335. Worked fine each time. Always looked to see what came out, and never a problem, no plastic or rubber, just the sud dirt. Just flush the drano with a few glasses of water each time. 🎉 Still waiting to see if my FX that sits mostly outside will give me this problem.

Thank you. One thing you can do is to occasionally pull your moonroof panel back and just look at the corners and remove any debris you might see before they end up clogging it down the line

Very informative video. I'm from China, and own a Q70L. I came across the same issue after a pure rain. The passenger side drain was cleared out, by using a cleaning wire/trimmer line. And I also cleaned the drain exit with compressed air. But the driver side drain is still clogged, the trimmer line doesn't do the magic. My question is that, is there also another drain exit on the driver side at the mirrored position under the hood? I couldn't take off the relavent parts under the windshield off because it requires to take the wiper off, and the braking fluid is there blocking my sight to see if there is another exit to clear out. I am wondering, if the both side share the same drain exit, or there are actually two exit symmetrically
@EdBwoy Жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for watching. Glad I could help in a way. Yes, there is another drain on the opposite side of the car. Unfortunately it is hidden behind a lot of stuff as you have noticed. What I have seen some people do, is feed a hard object like a wire coat hanger from the engine bay and poke at the drain without removing any of the other stuff. This was, you can just barely see the whitish part without a very clear view, but a wire can reach it. Also, doing it this way could break the middle stopper, but sometimes that is the goal to prevent future blockages.

@EdBwoy Thank you for the advise. I just found the 'updated' drain end piece online, and intend to buy a pair of them to replace the old ones completely. It seems I need to tear down the console more or less after all

My Qx70 has somehow damp carpets! I am not sure whether it’s because of the left dampness from two weeks ago when I cleaned the carpets or blocked drainage! I have to keep an eye on it! One thing I might do is to use spring wire to unclog the system. Not sure if it’s gonna work or not though
@EdBwoy2 жыл бұрын
As someone pointed out in the comments here, it would be advisable to look underneath the carpet if you are smelling anything musty and the car feels damp. The QX70 and FX are notorious for that, and it is worse because of where the electronic modules are located. If they become corroded, some interior features might stop working.

Probably an issue with the rear drains, if the wetness is at the rear footwell area only. Those drains should direct water to the bumper area right behind the rear tire on each side

I experienced this with my M37. From experience, if you do park your car under the tree, the drainage pipe from the sunroof could become clogged and then, water that's supposed to flow downwards to the outside will ingress. Also, I noticed that someone had tampered with the rubber fitted on the body panel (accessible when the glove box is removed) that holds some cables from the car hood/bonnet. Someone had expanded the hole when surveillance camera was installed in my car and thus didn't cover the hole totally. So, some water passes through. I've to remove the cable and get the rubber fitted and sealed properly and then the extra hole was also, checked to be sealed properly. Since then, everything has been fine and no water ingress into my passenger's side (from the glove box, soaked the foam and into the under of the carpet). Note that you've your ECU or one kinda module behind your glove box which is under the rug covering behind the glove box at the passenger side and could be damaged if not checked on time. Just my experience pls.
@EdBwoy2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. It was very short-sighted of whoever routed the cables through that grommet since the tube drains rights above it. I am glad you were able to address it

Definitely wouldn’t be taking my car apart for this. You put a hole in the headliner and detached your pillar where there is a airbag. Cracking plastic trim?? This is something you experiment with a much cheaper car like a 15 year old Honda not a Infiniti. Yikes !
